Thursday, February 11 - Today, Nashville singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lydia Luce announced her latest song “Tangled Love”. The latest track comes off her sophomore album Dark River, due out February 26, which has gained notoriety from NPR Music to AVClub. The song premiered with Flood today who described the track as, “blending classical, maudlin, and even anachronistic sounds with a more modern take on romantic relationships.”

Luce also announced her virtual album release show will take place on Dark River’s release date February 26. The virtual event will be streamed from Nashville’s Parthenon as a part of Centennial Park Conservancy's ECHO live performances and is funded in part by the
Tennessee Arts Commission. ECHO is an engaging chamber music series that features new classical music composed and arranged for the unique reverb of the Parthenon Naos and performed in front of a 42 foot statue of Athena. The event will be broadcast on Centennial Park Conservancy's Facebook and YouTube channels. More information on the Centennial Park Conservancy ECHO series can be found here.

Tangled Love's subtle chamber pop, orchestral and indie sounds highlight Luce’s captivating vocals making them center stage while telling a cathartic story of a codependent relationship and toxic attachment to a partner. Discussing the experience behind the song Luce stated, “Tangled Love is about attachment. This relationship has become painful and difficult yet there is something that holds me to it. When I’m without it I’m longing for it. It is an addiction and both parties are aware of the co-dependency but no one wants to be the first to get clean so we stay tangled in the web we’ve created.”

Luce was known as the go-to strings session player in Nashville working with everyone from Dolly Parton to Eminem but is now stepping into the spotlight with her album Dark River which has caught the attention of tastemakers from NPR Music to Under The Radar, drawn to her distinct take and unique blend of classical, vintage pop and indie rock influences.

Luce grew up in a strict musical household where her mother was a professional conductor for the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra and learning the violin was not presented as a choice. A virtuoso from six years old, she excelled in numerous philharmonics. She obtained her master’s at UCLA in the viola but knew her path was not that of a professional classical musician. Explaining, Luce says, “I am grateful for my classical upbringing and that I’ve gotten to absorb a diverse education in music. Ultimately it all brought me to this space of getting to create from experiences that are only mine.”

Dark River follows her debut solo album Azalea, released in 2018, an accomplished release, and established her as a notable emerging talent in Nashville and beyond. Luce also leads Lockeland Strings, a community arts organization that puts on monthly showcases of local artists accompanied by string quartet arrangements, alongside performances of new contemporary classical pieces from local composers. It partners with a new nonprofit each month to give a platform to organizations including the ACLU of Tennessee, Girls Write Nashville and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
