Billie Eilish Earns First Number 1 in the Billboard Hot 100 with 'bad guy'

17-year-old Billie Eilish has earned her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with her latest single ‘bad guy,’ taken from her multi-platinum global smash debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? [Darkroom/Interscope Records]. Following an unprecedented total of 9 weeks at No. 2, ‘bad guy’ has knocked Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ featuring Billy Ray-Cyrus off the top spot this week.

Billie Eilish is officially the first artist born this millennium to achieve both a No. 1 album and single, and is now the third female solo artist in the 31-year history with multiple songs topping the Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart (alongside Alanis Morissette and Sinead O’Connor). "bad guy" also sits atop the Pop Songs airplay chart for a second week running after leading the Alternative Songs airplay, and is the first Alternative Songs No. 1 to top the Hot 100 since Lorde's "Royals."

Her album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? -- released on March 29 [Darkroom/Interscope Records] -- debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and has since returned to the top spot two additional times this year.

Recently, Billie Eilish graced the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, and most recently V Magazine for their 20th Anniversary issue, and has amassed more that 15-billion combined global streams to date. Showing no signs of slowing down, the Los Angeles native is currently on her sold-out WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WORLD TOUR.

The Selecter Playing Seminal Debut LP in Full @ Riot Fest

The Selecter Set to Play Seminal Debut LP Too Much Pressure in Full at Riot Fest

40th Anniversary US Tour Kicks Off 9/11
@ Gramercy Theater in NYC

UK 2-Tone icons The Selecter are set to play their GOLD-SELLING breakout debut LP Too Much Pressure at this year's Riot Fest during their 40th Anniversary U.S. headline tour, which kicks off on 9/11 at Gramercy Theater in NYC.

The Selecter first formed in 1979, releasing their historically significant debut shortly after.  Too Much Pressure climbed to #5 in the UK, charting for thirteen weeks while hit singles like “On My Radio” (#8), “Three Minute Hero” (#16), and “Missing Words” (#23) all held strong chart positions and helped bring the band to the international stage. This year also sees the 40th anniversary of the 2-Tone movement, a crucial multi-racial, multi-cultural explosion born out of Coventry and the Midlands that transformed British Pop – other pioneers included The Beat,The Specials and Madness.

As one of very few women in the male-dominated 2-Tone scene, The Selecter's trailblazing front-woman Pauline Black is not only an integral figure in the music community, but is also a published author (Black by Design: A 2-Tone Memoir), talented actress and celebrated style icon (most recently being featured by Vogue for her fashion influence).

Catch The Selecter on their 40th Anniversary Tour next month with special guest Rhoda Dakar and at their full-album performance at Riot Fest on September 14th – all confirmed dates can be found below. For all up-to-date information on new music and shows, please stay tuned towww.theselecter.net.

The Selecter @ EXIT 2019

There was an old punk flavour out there too. Peter And The Test Tube Babies brought the unadulterated scatalogical punk while The Selecter delivered stylish Jamaican ska fed through the mean streets of Coventry on the Addiko Fusion stage, making anti-Brexit statements and slipping occasionally into bits resembling a skanking Franz Ferdinand.

The best voice that ever graced 2-Tone.

...reminiscent of the past and resonant with the present.

The iconic queen of ska...

...one of the key bands of the U.K. ska revival...

...legendary ska-punk band...

..they sound as good today as they did in when they released their debut single in 1979.

...ska-revival mainstay...

Steve Lacy Announces Debut Headline Tour

Steve Lacy -- best known as the guitarist of space-soul band THE INTERNET – announces his highly-anticipated solo headline tour this fall, culminating in a very special show at The Wiltern in Lacy’s hometown of Los Angeles this October. The tour follows on the massive critical success of his debut album Apollo XXI which was released on 3qtr via AWAL earlier this year.
Click HERE to listen to Apollo XXI
One of the most eagerly awaited debuts of the last couple years, Apollo XXI instantly won acclaim from critics with The Fader calling it “one of the most anticipated releases of this year” and The Guardian describing it as “a casually confident kaleidoscope”.  Lacy has also recently been featured on the cover of i-D’s ‘Voice of a Generation Issue’, Crack Magazine, GQ Korea and Document Journal.

Praise for Steve Lacy and Apollo XXI:

"One of the most anticipated debut albums of the year is also one of the best. " - Los Angeles Times

"With his unique brand of sun-drenched funk and lively love songs, which move from joyous to melancholic at a blistering pace, 21-year-old Steve Lacy has appeared destined for big things ever since emerging as a member of stupidly talented LA collective The Internet. His debut album Apollo XXI solidifies this potential, suggesting an artist that, although still a little rough around the edges, has a glowing career in front of him." - High Snobiety

"The 21-year-old polymath’s debut is as much a chance for him to make a statement as demonstrate his most compelling strengths: a commanding falsetto and sublime musicianship" - The Ringer

"The young genius of fractured funk and reverberant R&B emerges boldly his debut full-length." - Vice

"This hard-to-resist jam is built around the Paisley Park hero’s guitar-funk style and features Lacy in high-strung falsetto mode — a bold move, and one he shows no signs of struggling to pull off. It’s brutally hot." - Vulture on the song “Playground”

About Steve Lacy:
At the ripe age of 21, the Grammy-nominated Compton native already has a veteran’s resume; he was Wired Magazine’s Tech Visionary, Time Magazine’s Most Influential Teen, produced-written-featured with Solange, J Cole, Vampire Weekend, Blood Orange, and produced some of Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN on his iphone. He’s also toured the world 3x with his bandmates THE INTERNET, given a TED Talk, worked extensively with Gucci and Louis Vuitton on behalf of Virgil Abloh (including walking at the LV Paris Fashion Week show) and has now eschewed all major label offers to release his first album on his terms.

Pike Place Market is Seattle’s original farmers market, founded in 1907, and is one of the oldest continuously operating public markets in the U.S. The Market, which will be celebrating its 112th anniversary on August 17, operates within a nine-acre historic district and is a bustling neighborhood of hundreds of vendors, housing and businesses, including farmers, craftspeople, independent shops, buskers, and residents, many of whom are low-income seniors, and five social service agencies. In 1974, the City chartered the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA), a not for profit public corporation, to preserve, rehabilitate and protect buildings within the Market, increase the opportunities for farm and food retailing, support small and marginal businesses, and provide services for low-income individuals.

The Head and The Heart’s “Missed Connection” recently secured multiple weeks at the #1 position on the Mediabase and BDS Alternative Radio Charts - already having achieved multiple weeks at #1 on the AAA charts. “Missed Connection” is the lead single from Living Mirage, the band’s fourth full-length album, released on Warner Records / Reprise Records to critical praise earlier this year. This marks the band’s second #1 at Alternative, having previously landed the position for “All We Ever Knew” (Signs of Light), which also held the #1 spot at AAA for nine straight weeks in 2016. The band’s second single from Living Mirage, “See You Through My Eyes” was #1 most added at AAA radio last week.

Their last two albums, 2013’s Let’s Be Still and 2016’s Signs of Light, settled into Billboard’s Top 10 albums chart, with Signs of Light securing the #1 position on Rock Album Charts. They have appeared in Cameron Crowe’s Roadies, with music featured in countless other commercials, films and TV, among them Corona, Silver Linings Playbook and more. The band has established their status as a touring powerhouse, having landed prime time mainstage slots at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. Itasca announces new album "Spring," out 11/1 on Paradise of Bachelors

Announces New Album Spring

Out November 1 on Paradise Of Bachelors

Releases New Single “Bess’s Dance”

"It all suggests the balm of a gentle breeze beneath the bright sunlight, a feeling you’d want to capture indefinitely. Cohen does exactly that, suspending an instant in eternal amber. She is able to conjure up something resembling transcendence." - PITCHFORK

"The mellow glow [her music] generates is reason enough to want to bask in its evanescent light for as long as life's harsher aspects can conceivably be held at bay." - NPR

"Itasca's old-soul vocals and antique acoustic guitar conjure up classic folkies from years past like Vashti Bunyan." - VOGUE

"Music that gives a warm, floaty, spectral take on the singer-songwriter music of the ’70s." - STEREOGUM

"Simultaneously spare and complex, observational folk ballads turned psychic and strange by metal-stringed dissonance and troubling Symbolist metaphor." - MOJO

Itasca, the folk project of California songwriter Kayla Cohen, has announced her new album Spring, due out November 1 on Paradise Of Bachelors. After releasing 2016’s acclaimed Open to Chance, Cohen escaped Los Angeles for a six-month retreat to a 100-year-old adobe house in rural New Mexico. Cohen wrote the ten songs of Spring there, inspired by the region’s vast isolation and rich cultural history. The album’s title refers to the desert’s sparse water sources, which Cohen envisions as “the search for true connection to the earth, the seductive nature of answers... the dusty spring deep in the mind that keeps us sifting.”

The Fader announced the album today and premiered its first single “Bess’s Dance,” calling it "a beguiling rumination on the expanses she faced during the recording of the album."

Spring is out November 1 on Paradise Of Bachelors and features contributions from James Elkington, Chris Cohen, and members of Bitchin' Bajas, Gun Outfit, and Sun Araw. It is available for pre-order in physical and digitalformat.

Itasca plays Los Angeles’ Zebulon this Thursday, August 22. Details are HERE.

KIM GORDON Announces First-Ever Solo Album 'No Home Record' + Shares Video For "Sketch Artist" Dir. by Loretta Fahrenholz

(Credit: Natalia Mantini)
Today, multi-disciplinary artist Kim Gordon announced her first-ever solo album, No Home Record, to be released October 11th on Matador Records. The announcement of No Home Record follows the recent opening of Gordon’s solo exhibition “She Bites Her Tender Mind” at IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art) in Dublin and “Lo-Fi Glamour” at Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA. Among its nine tracks, No Home Record features new single “Sketch Artist” accompanied by a video directed by Berlin-based artist and filmmaker Loretta Fahrenholz who notes "'Sketch Artist' is a haunted car ride. Kim drives as 'Unter' Pool summons passengers throughout nighttime LA. The city drifts by, passengers intermingle in the back seat and Kim's deadly stare shocks pedestrians along her route.” The clip includes a cameo from actress and writer Abbi Jacobson. View the video HERE. The album is available for pre-order HERE

No Home Record tracklist also includes Gordon’s 2016 critically lauded single “Murdered Out,” about which Pitchfork noted: "'Murdered Out,' the first song she’s released under her own name, offers another vantage on the inexhaustibility of her sound. The single doesn’t just free her from old band names, it also gives Gordon new textures to work with." Listen to “Murdered Out” HERE.

No Home Record was produced largely by Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Ariel Pink, Sky Ferreira) at Sphere Ranch in Los Angeles, along with contributions from Shawn Everett (Jim James, The Voidz, The War on Drugs) and composer/filmmaker Jake Meginsky (L’appel Du Vide). Gordon’s solo debut album’s title is a nod to the French-Belgian director Chantal Akerman’s film No Home Movie

“‘Why a solo record? And why now?,’” Gordon mused of the upcoming solo debut. “I don’t know, but it wouldn’t have happened without the persistence of Justin Raisen. Living in LA the last few years it feels like home, but the transience of the place makes it feel sometimes like no home.”

Since co-founding the legendary Sonic Youth in the early 80’s, Kim Gordon has remained at the nexus of music, fashion, art and (more recently) books and film. In the past few years alone, Gordon has debuted in the #1 spot on the NY Times Bestseller List with her 2015 memoir Girl In A Band, acted alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill under the direction of Gus Van Sant (in 2018’s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot”), released music and performed as one half of Body/Head alongside Bill Nace, and opened multiple solo-exhibitions at internationally renowned museums.
