Gary Numan Announces Fall 2018 North American Headlining Tour

GARY NUMAN ANNOUNCES FALL 2018 NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR

Los Angeles, CA - June 29, 2018 - The iconic and highly influential Gary Numan has announced a North American headlining tour this fall. Beginning in Santa Ana, CA on September 4th, Gary will take his electric live show throughout the US and Canada before wrapping in Los Angeles on October 6th. For tickets and full list of dates, please visit HERE.

Following the release of his 22nd studio album, Savage (Songs From A Broken World), Gary hit the road last year for the first leg of his Savage North American Tour. Both the record & tour drew rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.

"Gary Numan's new album is a soundtrack for the Trumpocalypse." LA Weekly

"With Savage, the '80's new-wave icon is back - and better than ever." Electronic Musician

"If there were a word bigger than 'legendary', now would be a pretty great time to use it. Gary Numan is not just a musician, but a pioneer of sound." The 405

"You have an opportunity to come along for a marvelous ride with a musician at the peak of his powers when he performs." The Bay Area Reporter

Savage (Songs From A Broken World) succeeds Gary's album, Splinter (Songs From a Broken Mind), which earned him his highest chart-placing in 20 years and the best reviews of his career. On September 15th, 2017 Gary returned with the release of Savage (Songs From a Broken World)via BMG. Savage (Songs From a Broken World) is an energized and timely record that is motivated by the current Unites States political climate. The album debuted in the Top 40 on Billboard's Top Album Charts and is now available in physical and digital formats HERE

Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is an album with a narrative that is set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It is a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still inhabit it.

While Numan was writing the record, Donald Trump was elected President of the Unites States. It made sense to make him and his climate decisions the catalyst for the apocalypse theme of the album.

The album was produced by long-term collaborator Ade Fenton, with recording sessions split between Numa's own studio in LA, and in the UK. Numan and Fenton's creative connection dates back to 2006's Jagged. "Ade is not only extremely creative but ridiculously hard working, even in difficult circumstances," says Numan. "It's easy to discuss alternative ideas with him, he's not precious about things and is always looking to make the music better, even if that means, on very rare occasions, undoing his own work and starting again."

THE MATTSON 2 ANNOUNCE MATTSON 2 PLAY A LOVE SUPREME

FULL ALBUM COVER OF JOHN COLTRANE CLASSIC

OUT AUGUST 17 ON SPIRITUAL PAJAMAS

ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR WITH ASTRONAUTS, ETC.

The Mattson 2, the virtuosic guitar-and-drums jazz duo of twin brothers Jonathan and Jared Mattson, announced Mattson 2 Play A Love Supreme, their full album cover of John Coltrane's 1964 masterpiece. The record is due on August 17 on Spiritual Pajamas and finds the brothers translating the iconic saxophonist's spiritual vision into a thrilling 21st-century electric exploration. "For us it's about taking this beautiful art form and adapting it," says Jonathan, "being forward thinking and not trying to confine it to this narrow definition that has been set out by purists over the years." Along with the announcement, the Mattsons shared their version of "Resolution."

Mattson 2 Play A Love Supreme is available for pre-order now

The Mattson 2 recently wrapped a North American tour in support of psych-jazz breakouts Khruangbin. Prior to that, the duo released Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2: Star Stuff, a collaborative album with the Toro y Moi frontman that Pitchfork said "swings between lucidity and lunacy and back again." Premier Guitar has praised the Mattson 2's "potpourri of sonic colors and trance-inducing grooves," while Aquarium Drunkard has called the twins' musicianship "telepathic chemistry - effortlessly and mesmerizingly in-sync."

Slothrust Announce New LP, Share "Peach" Track Via Billboard | 'The Pact' Out Sept 14th on Dangerbird Records

Slothrust Announce New LP, Share "Peach" Track Via Billboard

The Pact Out Sept. 14th on Dangerbird Records

"Wellbaum challenged herself with stream-of-consciousness, automatic writing exercises in the making of “Peach,” all the while cranking up funhouse-mirror guitars toward an absolute wrecker of a chorus."
- Billboard

"'The Peach' is big, hooky, old-school rocker with a slightly discordant groove and one hell of a chorus. It will jerk you back to the ’90s just as forcefully as the sight of a mock turtleneck in an old Friends episode."
- Stereogum

"'Peach’ cleverly juxtaposes Wellbaum’s wry lyrical claim that she is ‘soft as a peach’ with the thunderous roar of her guitar, as well the powerful rhythm section constructed by drummer by Will Gorin and bassist Kyle Bann...That kind of versatility is rare and underrated.”
- The 405

“Listen to songs by Slothrust, and you'll hear aggressive sounds that hearken back to early-'90s rock bands like Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr. Listen more closely, and you'll also hear elements of the blues that the band’s members learned when they met in their college's jazz program."
- NPR Music

"Tender fingerpicking passages lurch into crashing speed-metal crescendos, loping country-western equestrian odes edge into menacing horror-movie pizzicato and back again."
- Village Voice
Billboard has announced Slothrust's new LP entitled The Pact out 9/14 via Dangerbird Records. Along with the LP announce the site also premiered the first track entitled "Peach". Billboard also did a sit down talk with lead singer/guitarist Leah Wellbaum who talked about the new album in full. Check out the interview and be sure to stay tuned for more updates regarding the new album.

Pre-order Slothrust's The Pact here!

Slothrust is principal songwriter, guitar player and unrepentant aesthete Leah Wellbaum, with drummer Will Gorin and bassist Kyle Bann. On their fourth full-length album The Pact, Slothrust constructs a luscious, ethereal cosmos perforated with wormy portals and magic wardrobes, demonstrating more clearly than ever the band’s deft shaping of contrasting sonic elements to forge a muscular sound that’s uniquely their own.
Bizarre and mundane, tender and confident. The awkward duality of the forever outsider, rightly reclaimed as power. This is The Pact. Produced and engineered by Billy Bush in Los Angeles (the band’s new home base), Slothrust’s new album is a cerebral trip across 12 songs that oscillate between a quietly reflective tenderness and a slick, sleek confidence; balancing playful innocence with ballsy swagger.  “This is the most fun I’ve ever had making a record,” Wellbaum confirms. “We were able to take risks. I’m saying yes more than no these days.”
Bush brought a rugged-lush sensibility to the proceedings, assuredly guiding the band into new territory. “I can’t say I’ve come across a band like this where every player is equally strong" Bush noted. "Typically there is one stronger talent and one that lags behind, but something I find really unique about Slothrust is that everybody really is extraordinary in their ability to discuss, understand, hear and play music.”    “We had infinite possibilities with Billy at the helm,” Bann says. “Whereas in the past we strove to make a record that would accurately capture the way we sound live,” continues Gorin, “this time we explored making a studio album. We let the experience take us somewhere new.”
Album opener and lead single “Double Down,” commands without cawing for attention - A lurching rock song with a subversive pop hook, ripped with screeching distortion that gives way to the chorus, an irreverent, emphatically cool takedown of all doubters. “Peach” showcases Wellbaum’s penchant for quirky wordplay as it free-associates “Jack-O-Lantern, Chupacabra; Sick Menorah, Candelabra” while cascading riffs illustrate her prodigious power and inventive nuance on guitar. “You were so mean to me then but no one’s mean to me now…”
"Walk Away” introduces a slinking R&B groove and an unexpectedly sultry vocal turn by Wellbaum, whose delivery shimmers as it peaks and drops, climaxing in a pulsing, frayed guitar solo full of tension that embodies desire straining against the edges of itself. “For Robin” opens with a jaunty bass line overlaid with a 1980s hotel-wedding saxophone riff, the perfect accompaniment to a lyrical narrative that takes the form of direct address to deceased actor Robin Williams.
"The Haunting” is a sumptuous odyssey through the realm somewhere between sleeping and waking that is perhaps most indicative of The Pact’s expanded sonic palette. A twangy, acoustic strum leads the way before the bass tumbles in to hug a simple, tangy melody, conjuring a sense of underwater vertigo not dissimilar from the band’s influences like Smashing Pumpkins or the reflective wail of The Pixies.  “Fever Doggs,” “a song that feels like a photograph of an old house made of dark rotting wood,” Wellbaum acknowledges, tips its hat to trailblazers like PJ Harvey as it spins toward the edge in shifting time signatures that dissolve into a furiously controlled riot.
Of the writing process, Wellbaum reflects, “I need to do it less, but I want to do it more. I don’t feel frantic anymore.”  While she might argue that there’s no concrete conceptual through-line to her writing, it’s hard to ignore the ongoing conversation between her and her restless, boisterous, but ultimately unsure inner child. “When writing a lot of this material I tried to step further outside of myself and take risks I hadn’t before. After doing that, I stepped back into the role of performer and author of the material. It’s a really liberating experience.”
