Video still from “Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain)”
To celebrate the release of Thom Yorke’s new video for “Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain)”from his current album ANIMA (released June 27 on XL Recordings), ANIMA Technologies opened its L.A. offices with a three-day immersive first look event.  The 5-minute short film, made at the Brooklyn-based experimental studio Art Camp, is set in a dream world inspired by fragments of Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood’s imagination and made up of over 3000 hand-illustrated frames. The first clips of the film were shown throughout the ANIMA Technologies’ offices, on desktop monitors as well as a custom-constructed TV wall. Sound experience was provided by Sonos.
The installation, which coincided with Thom, Nigel Godrich & Tarik Barri a/k/a Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ live performances at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre October 29 and 30, has ended as of 5pm PST October 30 with the world premiere of the video HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I03xFqbxUp8
Art Camp commented on their process interpreting the latest track from Thom’s current album ANIMA:
“Our first and last goal was to serve the feelings of the song and the record. Thom shared a list of visions with us, disconnected images from his dreams, and we expanded on it with visions from everyone who joined the video team, over a dozen of us.  At its core, our intention was to communicate the experience of feeling completely on your own, surrounded by people you see yourself in but don’t understand, who have lost their minds to the city and can’t see that you need their help.
The process for making this animation was extremely iterative and cyclical, and started from every direction at once. We experimented with clay sculpture and one-cent 3D horses, crowd simulations and charcoal dust, linear storytelling and abstract expression. We made the entire video and threw it away, made it again, threw it away, dozens of times. This of course was stressful but also beautiful.
Our goal is to create work that is surprising to ourselves, that we don’t understand how it happened. A lot of that has to do with trusting in the collaborative process– finding a wavelength where everyone feels free to go crazy in their own way, and push for what they most believe in. Our values are constantly being tested and rewritten in pursuit of creating a community where people really do feel loose and free and safe.  When it works the best, you end up with work that speaks in everyone’s voices and one voice.”

MORBID STUFF OUT NOW VIA LITTLE DIPPER/RISE

Praise for PUP and Morbid Stuff:

"These guys are heroes." - NPR Music's Robin Hilton

"If you're gonna start a record, you might as well do it right. I just cannot get enough of this record. I think it's one of my favorite records of the year. Easily...musically it's explosive. It is huge." - NPR Music's New Music Friday Podcast

"'Morbid Stuff' is the angriest PUP has ever sounded. But it’s not a cry for help. It’s a cry of freedom, the sound of a band realizing that anger is liberating..." - Pitchfork (7.9)

"Morbid Stuff [is] another collection of explosively catchy anthem/tantrums...[PUP] still sound about as vibrant and youthful as a rock band can. It’s invigorating. It’s harrowing. It rules. Fuck with it." - Stereogum

"Along with the band’s songwriting, Babcock’s point of view has sharpened further and grown even more candid, grappling with his own depression and repurposing the band’s most crippling doubts into addictive hooks." - Vulture

"With 'Morbid Stuff,' the Toronto band made the best album of their career." - Noisey

""PUP’s third album Morbid Stuff is by far their best yet, and already one of the best punk albums of the year." - Brooklyn Vegan

"The beauty of PUP is that the band writes confident, catchy punk songs that are fueled, almost exclusively, by anxiety and indecision. On ['Morbid Stuff'], PUP offers up a new batch of songs that all play like stadium-punk anthems, but Stefan Babcock is still singing about every stupid thing he’s ever said or done. " - The A.V. Club

Today, PUP invite you to join them as they catch up on the latest episode of Growing Up Ghouls in the new video for “See You At Your Funeral” from director Joe Stakun, just in time for Halloween. With the Falls Apart Tour having shredded through North America already, the band will head over seas next month before returning for another rip through the US and Canada in 2020. Full tour dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased HERE.
PUP - SEE YOU AT YOUR FUNERAL (Official Music Video)

Formed in Toronto five years ago, PUP – comprised of Stefan BabcockNestor ChumakZack Mykula, and Steve Sladowski – quickly became favorites of the punk scene with their first two, critically-beloved albums, winning accolades everywhere from the New York Times to Pitchfork, from NPR and Rolling Stone, and more. Now, with their Polaris Music Prize Shortlisted LP, Morbid Stuff, PUP have grown up and doubled down on everything that made you love their first two records. It’s gang’s-all-here vocals, guitarmonies, and lyrics about death. Lots of them. Fitting to their ethos, their new album takes the dichotomy of fun and emotional wreckage in their songs and teeters between gleeful chaos and bleak oblivion while wielding some of the best choruses the band has ever written. It’s the most insightful, sweetest, funniest, sickest, angriest, saddest and most inescapably desperate collection of songs they’ve recorded to date. If their self-titled record was the fuse and The Dream Is Over was the bomb going off, Morbid Stuff is your family sifting through the rubble, only to find you giggling while you bleed to death.

Russian Baths share exhilarating rocker "Wrong" | Debut LP out 11/8

Russian Baths release new single, "Wrong."

Debut LP, Deepfake, out November 8th.

Listen to previous singles "Parasite" + "Tracks" + "Responder."

Record release show at St. Vitus w/ Bambara.

“Sometimes a rock band exudes such swirly, Goth-tinged intensity, you’d swear you can actually hear the smoke machines and foreboding light.” ~ NPR Music

“…an ambient wash of artfully loud rock music, pushed and pulled by lulling vocals and echoing yet powerful riffs.” ~ Stereogum

"NYC-based Russian Baths blend ’90s influences like Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Archers of Loaf, Lungfish and more to create a cocktail that nods its head to classic indie, post-hardcore and feedback-riddled punk like Flipper all at once." ~ Brooklyn Vegan

"Russian Baths’ polished brand of psych rock is enveloping, swallowing its listener whole." ~ Paste Magazine
Photo: A.F. Cortes

Russian Baths fuses the abrasive sounds of ‘80s New York, the angular outbursts of DC hardcore, shoegaze’s torrents of noise and the suffocating anxiety of the Information Age. Their operation goes deep. One part horror movie soundtrack, serene still life and personal confession, the band’s music is at once imposing and intimate. As with their namesake, Russian Baths’ work is a place where hidden things happen, sometimes beautiful, sometimes tragic, always obscured, but calling to be explored.
Russian Baths’ forthcoming debut album, Deepfake, takes their art of juxtaposition to its extreme. Feedback and dissonance swallow softly whispered harmonies. Granular synths and 808s rest besides guitar shrieks and pounding, live drums. Caustic fits are punctuated by moments of relief, tortured the next second. Surgical imagery, themes of personal regret and cultural guilt, reflections on systems in collapse and the accompanying anomie populate the soundscape, sung by voices sometimes so close, they’re in the room besides you, sometimes from an impossible distance. Unlike their dissonant peers, in only one section do the proceedings lead to a scream.
Recorded and assembled over the course of two of years and meticulously mixed by Ben Greenberg, Deepfake is dense, dark and finely crafted.
Russian Baths is Jess Rees (guitar, vocals) and Luke Koz (guitar, vocals), joined live by Kyle Garvey (bass) and Steven Levine (drums) from Brooklyn, NY. They have shared stages with Black Midi, Drahla, Uniform, Horrors, We Are Scientists, Bambara, and others.
Look for Deepfake out November 8th via Good Eye Records.

Both of the Factory Records albums saw New Order make significant breakthroughs across at Atlantic and in many ways the late Eighties marked a high point with the band as with the  support of Quincy Jones’ Q-West label they scored numbers Billboard chart dance hits with “Technique’s” acid house influence before “Republic” was to become their best ever selling album in the US.

Having just played the first “Technique”/ “Republic” shows in the UK and South America, these have been hailed as some of the strongest the band have performed with the Sunday Mail giving it 5 stars and calling it as “the soundtrack to their lives. An epic set of timeless classics, where every single intro gets a roar of applause like it’s the last song of the night.”

The Light have just completed a widely acclaimed world tour performing both "Substance" albums of Joy Division and New Order which saw them visit North and South America. Europe, Australia and New Zealand but these "Technique" and "Republic" concerts mark the band moving forward through the catalogue once more.

As has become their custom, all dates feature The Light performing an opening set of Joy Division material

Robyn Hitchcock releases new "Juliet, Naked" video, announces U.S. tour

ROBYN HITCHCOCK RELEASES “SUNDAY NEVER COMES” VIDEO

SONG ORIGINALLY COMMISSIONED FOR JULIET, NAKED SOUNDTRACK

LIMITED EDITION PINK VINYL DOUBLE A-SIDED 7-INCH AVAILABLE NOW

U.S. TOUR BEGINS NOVEMBER 7 IN DALLAS, TX

PLANET ENGLAND COLLABORATION WITH XTC’S ANDY PARTRIDGE AVAILABLE NOW
Robyn Hitchcock has unveiled a striking companion video for his recently released single, “Sunday Never Comes.” The clip – directed by award-winning Australian filmmaker Jeremy Dylan (Jim Lauderdale: The King of Broken Hearts) – is streaming now at Hitchcock’s official YouTube channel HERE.

Commissioned for the soundtrack of the 2018 romantic comedy, Juliet, Naked, directed by Jesse Peretz from the novel by Nick Hornby, “Sunday Never Comes” was recorded in Nashville late last year, with Hitchcock backed by The Nashville Fabs, his stellar Music City ensemble that includes guitarist Buddy Hughen (Tristen), bassist Pat Sansone (Wilco, The Autumn Defense), and drummer Ryan Brewer. “Sunday Never Comes” is available now as a limited edition pink vinyl 7-inch from Hitchcock’s own Tiny Ghost Records, exclusively via his official webstore HERE.

The double A-sided single is joined by an additional new track, “Take Off Your Bandages,” described by its creator as “a psychedelic manifesto for the current era, inspired by the activism of the students at Stoneman Douglas High School.” All 7-inch orders will be joined by an official download link, as well as alternative versions of "Sunday Never Comes (Acoustic)” and "Take Off Your Bandages (Extended).”

First released last year in its initial demo form, “Sunday Never Comes” is performed in Juliet, Naked by its star, Ethan Hawke, of which Hitchcock notes, “Occasionally I hear people singing my songs into the public ear: Suzanne Vega and The Grateful Dead covering ‘Chinese Bones’ was epic, as was REM’s take on ‘Arms Of Love.’ In Juliet, Naked, Ethan Hawke performs several versions of ‘Sunday Never Comes’ and he caught the feel just right. The movie is largely set in a quaint, dismal English seaside town, where the American protagonist finds himself wedged in the dissolving relationship between an obsessive fan and that fan’s unobssessive wife. As a veteran of dismal English seaside towns (Morrissey – down boy!) who now lives in Nashville, I can relate to this scenario in reverse. It’s a touching and perceptive story for all us music casualties, an odd hybrid of Brit and US culture – united as we both are by Rock Culture above all.
“As Ethan Hawke sings the song in the film, I thought I should make my own version available. The video was shot in Sydney, directed by Jeremy Dylan (who filmed my last two promotional clips) and features me as an artist marooned in an abandoned apartment, wistfully peering at footage of my partner, Emma, as she vamps soulfully through Berlin. Were we ever together? At one point I start drawing her. The theme is distance, separation, and a resolution that never comes to pass....”

As if that weren’t enough, Hitchcock recently teamed with fellow English pop legend Andy Partridge of XTC for the collaborative EP, PLANET ENGLAND, available via Ape House Records HERE. “The EP will send devotees into paroxysms of joy,” wrote PROG Magazine. “Hitchcock cites the pair’s love of Barrett, Beefheart, and the Beatles as unifying factors but psych-era Fabs loom largest…PLANET ENGLAND could’ve been recorded anytime over the last 53 years; hopefully the duo’ll soon ride again.”

Meanwhile, Hitchcock will continue his seemingly eternal live schedule with a wide-ranging array of upcoming dates. U.S. dates begin November 7 at The Wild Detectives in Dallas, TX and then continue though a much-anticipated return to Los Angeles, CA’s Largo at the Coronet, set for December 13. Additional highlights include an already sold out performance at Austin, TX’s Cactus Café (November 8) as well as a very special double bill supported by Tanya Donelly at Brooklyn, NY’s Murmrr Theatre (November 21).
