Ladytron confirm new album, share new material

After sharing a brief tease earlier this week, Ladytron have now announced their return and confirmed that a new album is on the way.
The new full-length is being produced through a PledgeMusic campaign, stating, "The group have chosen PledgeMusic as a way to record a new album with the direct participation of their audience," making it their first studio album since 2011's 'Gravity The Seducer'.
You can find out more about their campaign by clicking here and check out a brief snippet of new material in the player below.

King Tuff shares "Raindrop Blue" video, from new album, 'The Other', out 4/13 on Sub Pop

North American Tour On Sale Now
Today, King Tuff has shared another new song off his forthcoming album, The Other, out April 13th via Sub Pop Records. "Raindrop Blue," oozing with soulful bass lines and pulsating saxophone melodies, continues Kyle Thomas's new artistic vision as King Tuff. Listen to the song HERE via the Emmanuelle Pickett-directed video below. Pre-order for the album is available now.

Speaking about "Raindrop Blue," Thomas lays out its relevance to the greater story of the album and its relationship to the previously-released song "The Other":

"...I took the hand of the Other...you fell onto my fingers like velvet to the touch...
Is Raindrop Blue the lost forgotten lover? Is she the Other? Is she the Blue Subaru?
Funny story about that Blue Subaru...

I wrote "The Other" in October 2016. At the time it was a fictional story about losing myself and the quest to find the creative spirit again. I imagined myself driving around in a 1982 blue Subaru Brat, which has been my dream car ever since I was a little kid. I would see them driving around my hometown, Brattleboro, Vermont, and I thought the name Brat had something to do with the town itself. It always seemed like the unicorn of cars; you'd only catch a glimpse of one when you weren't looking. So I was driving this car around in my song cuz you can do whatever you want inside a song.

A year and a half later and the album was done. I sent it to my good friend Em so she could take a listen. She's been in school studying dreams and alchemy, and we talked about the dark side of the moon, the flip side of the mirror, the unknowable Other and things in the lyrics which were oddly in line with her studies. She's always had the most poetically surreal dreams as long as I've known her, full of symbols and strange beauty, like she's tapped into some kinda psychic conduit. She was in Vermont but her dreams had been telling her to go to New Mexico. She needed transportation for when she got there, so she was hunting around on Craigslist to find some dusty old high-desert gem she could zoom around in. The first car that popped up: "1982 Blue Subaru Brat in Albuquerque." The exact car from my song. She sent me the ad. I immediately booked a flight out there, bought the car, and drove her back to LA in a blaze of romantic glory.
The lyrics in the song had somehow come true.

It felt like whatever this mysterious "Other" was, it seemed like maybe it was on my side. Helping me along. As long as I had faith in it.

So..is Raindrop Blue the Other? or the Subaru? Probably both and probably neither. But one thing is for certain: I love to dance."

Thomas self-produced the record and brought in Shawn Everett (War On Drugs, Alabama Shakes) to assist with the mixing process. No less hooky than previous records, the new songs ditch the goofy rock-and-roll bacchanalia narratives of earlier records in favor of expansive arrangements, a diversity of instrumentation, and lyrics that straddle the fence between painful ruminations and reconnecting with that part of yourself that feels childlike and creative and not corroded by cynicism. The record features contributions from Ty Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis (vocals), Greta Morgan (vocals), and Mikal Cronin (saxophone).

Thomas views the entire experience of the record as a kind of psychic reset. "I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything."

On top of all this good news, King Tuff has also announced a North American tour beginning May 3rd in San Diego. Cut Worms will open the shows, and all tickets go on sale this Friday, February 9th. Visit www.kingtuff.life for more updates.

New Track from YOUNG FATHERS, 'Cocoa Sugar' Out March 9 (Ninja Tune)

Cocoa Sugar Pre-Order: https://youngfathers.lnk.to/cocoasugar

Young Fathers raise anticipation levels with the release of “Toy,” the latest single from their third albumCocoa Sugar, out next Friday, March 9 on Ninja Tune. “Toy” is the third track to be revealed from the album, following lead song “Lord,” which announced the band's return in November, and second single “In My View.” The new track is another enticing glimpse of what to expect from Young Fathers on Cocoa Sugar: something typically unique and exhilarating but leaner, more muscular and self-assured than ever before.

Cocoa Sugar sees Young Fathers—Alloysious Massaquoi, Graham ‘G’ Hastings and Kayus Bankole—operating with a newfound clarity and direction. Written and recorded throughout 2017 in the band’s basement studio and HQ, the album is without doubt their most confident and complete statement to date, and is set to build on the success of the group’s previous two albums: 2014’s Mercury Prize-winning DEAD and 2015’s White Men Are Black Men Too.

The record has already been met with widespread acclaim; described by Mojo as “an avant-pop masterclass” and Uncut as “a heady joy” while Q Magazine stated “Cocoa Sugar finds Young Fathers at a fascinating juncture: opening up, moving forward, but still existing in a sonic hall-of-mirrors all of their own”

Cocoa Sugar will be available on CD, LP, limited LP and via all digital services. It features a striking visual aesthetic, with cover photography from Julia Noni and creative direction from Tom HingstonCocoa Sugar is available to pre-order via https://youngfathers.lnk.to/cocoasugar

"Young Fathers has long sought to challenge and outright defy classification... ‘In My View,’ from the forthcoming album Cocoa Sugar, continues to test perceptions, packed with little provocations” - PITCHFORK

"Young Fathers' hard-line positions on equality and compassion remain uncompromising... They've doubled down on their humanistic messaging... and the music is better than ever." – PIGEONS & PLANES

"If you're looking for something otherworldly, a little mysterious, but absolutely beautiful, you've found it" -THE FADER

"Arguably their most confident, crystal clear and complete statement to date..." - OKAYPLAYER

"They've primed the release of Cocoa Sugar with two incredible singles that merge gospel and buzzing electronics, both accompanied by visually striking music videos." - PAPER MAGAZINE

"...just go to the top of the back, turn it up, ideally in a slightly darkened room, and get as excited for the album as I am." - NOISEY

CHVRCHES Announce New Album Love Is Dead, Share Track "My Enemy" Feat. Matt Berninger (of The National)

chvrches cover

CHVRCHES today announce their highly-anticipated new album Love Is Dead, due for release on Glassnote Records on May 25th. Pre-order for Love Is Dead is available NOW.

CHVRCHES are Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Love Is Dead is the band’s third album, following their debut The Bones of What You Believe (2013) and its acclaimed follow up Every Open Eye (2015). The soaring success of their first two albums propelled CHVRCHES into new levels of prominence. Love Is Dead is at times euphoric and others bittersweet, it is an album about growing up and “coming to terms with the fact that there are great things in the world and there are awful things in the world and that you can’t get one without the other,” says Mayberry.

Cook adds: “We’re fucked, the world is fucked. But there’s an ellipses at the end. It’s Love Is Dead. Like, how did we get to this point? And how do we move on from this point? It’s Love Is Dead, we’re fucked, what’s next?”

For the first time in their career, Love Is Dead sees CHVRCHES welcome outside influences, with 2017 and 2018 GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) co-producing nine of its 13 tracks, and Steve Mac, who produced “Miracle”.

Today also sees the release of a second song from the album, “My Enemy” featuring The National’s Matt Berninger. "We've all been huge fans of The National for a long time,” says Mayberry. “We had played a few festivals together but really got to know Matt when we were involved in 7 Inches For Planned Parenthood, a fundraising and awareness campaign that he spearheaded. It's really inspiring and reassuring to meet other artists you admire and realise that they are trying to do some good in the world. We kept in touch after that and, when it came time to record My Enemy, Iain and Martin suggested I email Matt to see if he'd like to sing on it. We never realistically thought he'd have time to do it but he replied right away and recorded the track at his house the next day.

“My Enemy” follows first single “Get Out”, which NPR called “the band's most ambitious pop effort to date, all without losing that distinct edge.” The song has been a mainstay of Spotify’s Global Viral chart since release and received a groundswell of critical acclaim.

Praise for “Get Out”
Oh thank heavens, CHVRCHES are back!...It’s almost as if Lauren Mayberry’s voice was made to be matched with Kurstin behind the boards” - NY Magazine
“They’ve come back sleeker and shinier than ever” - Stereogum
“Chvrches are so good at making pop songs that you almost take them for granted, but perhaps it was about time they they reminded the world what they can do given a few synths, a drum machine, and a great frontperson.” - Noisey
“‘Get Out’ backs up the band’s pop claims, bolstered by racing synths
and a powerful chorus fit to blast off from big stages.” - Uproxx
“the track comes loaded with the sort of catchy rhythms and sparkling hooks fans have come to appreciate from Lauren Mayberry and the boys” - Consequence of Sound

Over the course of their career, CHVRCHES have played countless shows worldwide, with each tour’s production reaching new heights and leaping towards the top of festival bills. NPR Premieres Skating Polly's "Queen For A Day" | "The Make It All Show" LP Out 5/4!

In Skating Polly's 'Queen For A Day' Video,
Heavy's The Head That Wears The Crown

Skating Polly's music has skittered back and forth along the genre spectrum between alt-rock and what it calls "ugly pop." The band's lead single for The Make It All Show, "Queen for a Day," skews towards rock as it drips with punk sensibilities: from Kelli Mayo's snarling vocal performance to the simple and stripped down verses leading into the thrashing of guitars on the chorus.
The reclamation of stereotypes is a powerful tool of feminist empowerment. You can enjoy the aspects of femininity that society has assigned to you and that indulgence doesn't negate your existence as a complex individual deserving of respect and consideration. For example, I think of Courtney Love's fashion as a weapon against misogyny. She could front a rock band and wear pink lace and babydoll dresses. (Recently, this tactic has been faithfully resurrected by Eva Hendricks of Charly Blisson tour with Skating Polly this May.)
For Immediate Release:
Skating Polly Announce New LP The Make It All Show –
Out May 4th via El Camino Media

Drop Video for “Queen For A Day,” New Track Co-written by Exene Cervenka

New York, NY – February 27th, 2018
 – Sibling punk-rock trio Skating Polly are excited to announce their fifth studio full-length album – The Make It All Show – due out May 4th via El Camino Media.  The threesome tracked the record this past Winter at Seagrass Studio in Los Angeles with producer Brad Wood (Smashing PumpkinsLiz Phair) who helmed last year’s New Trick EP (feat. Louise Post and Nina Gordon ofVeruca Salt).  Skating Polly are also premiering the video for “Queen For A Day” onNPR today, the first new track from The Make It All Show, which features guest vocals from the song’s co-writer Exene Cervenka –  the producer of the band’s 2013 albumLost Wonderfuls and singer of seminal punk band X.

The lyrics for this song came from a conversation we had backstage with Exene about the old game show Queen For A Day. The premise of the show was that women with tragic stories (sick children, dead husbands, poverty, etc) would compete against each other for applause from the audience. The winner would get a washing machine or whatever household prize they asked for and be crowned Queen For A Day. Months after this conversation Exene sent me lyrics in a text and we wrote the song around them. She's singing on the second and third choruses too. We wanted the video to emulate the old show but also look like it was directed by John Waters. – Kelli Mayo

Between writing and recording this past year, Kelli, Peyton Bighorse, and Curtis Mayohave spent most of their time on the road – supporting X on two legs of its40th anniversary tour, hitting the UK and Europe with Kate Nash, playing Riot Festand zig-zagging across the country on multiple headline tours.  With ages ranging between 17 and 21, Skating Polly continues to produce music well beyond their quantifiable years and The Make It All Show is clearly reflective of a band at its tightest and most confident – expanding on the dynamic song structures, harmonies and melodies explored on New Trick.  The band’s unique sound has drawn critical acclaim over the years, with Stereogum admiring its “grand, large-scale fuzzy melodicism” andNoisey branding the band as the “pioneers of Ugly Pop.”

Skating Polly’s new album The Make It All Show is out May 4th (May 11th in Europe) on El Camino Media and is available for pre-order today.  You can check out the new video for “Queen For A Day” HERE, and the track will be available to stream or purchase via all DSPs this Friday, March 2nd.  Catch the band on a West Coast tour with The Go! Teamnext month, followed by a North American tour this Spring with Charly Bliss – tickets on sale now.
