On December 4,  Sub Pop will release the digital single for "Dirty Shirt" + "Leave Me Out" by Toronto’s METZThese songs were previously only available as a limited-edition 7" single, and “Dirty Shirt” can now be streamed online via Pitchfork.  Additionally, Pitchfork TV will broadcast a live streaming concert you can view on December 19 (at 12:30pm ET) featuring sets from METZ and label mate King Tuff.  This video piece gives a glimpse of both the figurative a-side of this single and METZ live in Toronto at the record release show for their 2012, self-titled debut album (see news story November 29).

METZ will wrap up their 2012 tour schedule with a show on December 19 in Brooklyn, NY at the Music Hall of Williamsburg with King Tuff.  Then in early 2013, the band will kick off a massive European tour, which begins on January 25 in Athens, GR at Six D.O.G.S. Cultural Center  and currently ends on March 12 in Brussels, BE at Muziekodroom. Please find a full list of tour dates below.

In related news, METZ have three new live sessions that feature versions of "Dirty Shirt" & "Headache" to share at this time: A Noisevoxx "Noisemakers" segment,  which was recorded in conjunction with "Live at Braund Sound" and "Stereospectacular" (watch here);  Slacker Radio (watch here); and  Daytrotter (listen here). The latter two  performances also include album cut "Wasted".

METZ, led by the singles "Headache" (Mp3) & "Wet Blanket" (official video), is now available worldwide on CD, LP and digitally from Sub Pop.

What people are saying about METZ:
“In the past ten years, independent bands have inched back toward the musical aggression that was something of a default for the community in the late eighties and early nineties. METZ, a trio from Toronto, have fully revived this confrontational, skilled and energetic approach. The guitarist-vocalist Alex Edkins, the drummer Hayden Menzies, and the bassist Christ Slorach have made one of the year's best albums…” – The New Yorker

"METZ songs tend to start with an isolated element-- Hayden Menzies' thundering, hammer-of-the-gods drum salvos, Alex Edkins' solitary guitar screech-- that immediately triggers a ticking time-bomb countdown for the moment when the band erupts in unison. You can see the storm coming from a mile atway, and yet, when Menzies, Edkins, and bassist Chris Slorach launch into the merciless, firestorm battering of "Negative Space" or the wrecking-ball swing of "Knife in the Water", it still startles like a sneak attack." - [8.5 / Best New Music] - Pitchfork

"The Toronto noise-punk trio METZ, on the other hand, were wild-eyed and brutally focused. Playing maelstroms more than songs, they’re like a less unhinged Jesus Lizard, full of coiled ferocity that engulfs you, releases you briefly, then swallows you up again. This year’s Sub Pop debut only hints at their live intensity." ["CMJ's Most Talented 10"] - SPIN.com

"They're pretty much a burst of musical brutality. And seeing them last night at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn was more than an affirmation of that. A trio from Toronto, they'll sit nicely next to your Melvins and Nirvana and maybe even Wire. In other words, their edge is more than attitude and volume and speed." ["CMJ Discoveries: Day 3"] - NPR's All Songs Considered

Electric Flower Group Premiere New Video "The Electrician" Via Paste Magazine

PASTE MAGAZINE PREMIERES

ELECTRIC FLOWER GROUP'S
NEW VIDEO "THE ELECTRICIAN"

"The Electrician" : SoundCloud (approved for posting)

See Paste Magazine Video Premiere Here:

LA-based psych-rockers Electric Flower Group are already mind-blowing on record, but for their new video "The Electrician," they've synched the music with the gonzo 1977 Japanese cult horror film House. EFG's dark, sonically overdriven take on the Walker Brothers' classic "The Electrician," combined with House's lush and insanely bizarre visuals, culminates in an aural and sensory freakout, both of which were personally approved by Scott Walker himself. EFG, comprised of guitarist Imaad Wasif and drummer Josh Garza (Secret Machines) have two EPs under the EFG moniker.

Along with brief stints in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Lou Barlow's Folk Implosion, Wasif has released three solo albums. He also collaborated and wrote songs with Karen O for the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack. In 2012, EFG were handpicked for opening dates with Dinosaur Jr.

Do yourself a favor and check out the band and video that will soon have everyone talking.

Chaos Chaos New EP S Out Now

Chaos Chaos New EP S Out Now
Playing Seattle's Crocodile On December 2
KEXP Session To Be Broadcast December 3

"Chaos Chaos's songs have heavily layered echoing voices and a dreamy texture of synthesized melodies. It's an unusual sound that is catching the music world off guard." - Bust

"S features five songs of the sisters' trademark synth pop sound with a slightly more mature electro-pop edge." - IFC

Chaos Chaos, the new project of Asy and Chloe formerly of the band Smoosh released their new EP, S this fall to critical acclaim. S received praise from Nylon, Bust, IFC, Interview Magazine, Lucky Magazine, Magnet and more. Chaos Chaos recently opened for Tegan and Sara at NYC's Bowery Ballroom and were inspired to record a cover of the band's "Closer."" In December Chaos Chaos will head to the west coast to play at the Crocodile in Seattle on December 2 and perform a KEXP live session on December 3.

The duo's five song EP branches out in different directions stylistically. Chloe says "The EP was influenced by NPR, The Moth, and random radio stations we'd flip through." Asy adds, "The EP is very personal because this is a time in our lives where we've decided to take bigger risks and in order to do that you have to become very vulnerable."

As Smoosh, Asy and Chloe put out three full-length albums. Their debut She Like Electric was released in 2004 when Asy was 12 years old and Chloe was only 10. Over the years the band toured with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Sleater-Kinney, Mates Of State, Jimmy Eat World, Cat Power, Nada Surf, The Eels and Sufjan Stevens, among others. The band also performed on Yo Gabba Gabba and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In 2012, two decided it was time for a change and formed Chaos Chaos. The duo recorded songs on S with producer Nathan Rosenberg at The Doghouse Studios in Brooklyn, except for the track "Winner," which was recorded with Matt Tong of Bloc Party. There are dance, blues and electronic elements on the EP and the songs blend electronic instruments with acoustic piano, drums, a trash drum kit, saxophone, and experimental vocals. The duo launched a Kickstarter project to fund the EP, featuring the trash drum kit used on the EP as well as artwork created by the band. The project succeeded its goal within the first day.

"I think we are having the most fun making this EP because we have never approached music this way before. The whole process feels like an adventure. It will also be very exciting to bring this EP to a live setting (which will involve the Toys R Us Big Piano, a trash drum kit and vocal processors)".

NOSAJ THING SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR "ECLIPSE/BLUE"

NOSAJ THING SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR "ECLIPSE/BLUE"

PRODUCED IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CREATORS PROJECT

DIRECTED BY DAITO MANABE

Nosaj Thing photo by Mikey T
It's been three years since the release of Nosaj Thing's highly acclaimed debut album, Drift (Alpha Pup), which topped countless Best Of Year Lists, but 2013 will mark a new chapter for the 27-year-old producer, musician and DJ from Los Angeles.  With a new album, label and imprint (Timetable) for Innovative LeisureHome marks the first time Nosaj has incorporated guest vocalists.  Having remixed and worked with the likes of The XX, Flying Lotus, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beck & Kendrick Lamar, it was time to incorporate a few collaborations of his own with Toro y Moi and Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) providing ethereal vocals for two of the tracks on Home. The rest of the album is rounded with Nosaj's signature cinematic soundscapes that explore the space from where Drift left off.

After recently sharing lead single "Eclipse/Blue feat. Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead)," our first taste from Home, Nosaj is back today to share the song's video, created in conjunction with The Creators Project and Tokyo-based artist and programmer Daito Manabe. The video, available below, sees Daito's exquisite, minimal projections perfectly complementing the song's effortless beauty. Head directly to The Creators Project site to learn more about Daito and Nosaj Thing.

FEMI KUTI & THE POSITIVE FORCE TO TOUR THE U.S.

FEMI KUTI & THE POSITIVE FORCE TO TOUR THE U.S.

Shows Will Preview Material From Forthcoming Album No Place For My Dream

On the heels of Femi Kuti’s GRAMMY-nominated most recent album, Africa for Africa, The Los Angeles Times said he “makes something more than music. His [albums] and hugely popular concerts (‘one of the more powerful live shows on Earth,’ according to The Onion) are imbued with the weight of family legacy and Kuti’s own individual intents. It is ‘music as message’ in a way few acts take on these days—protest and admonishment and hope all embedded in Afrobeat exuberance.” U.S. audiences will have the opportunity to experience Kuti’s unique artistry and world-renowned live performance when he and his big band, the Positive Force, tour the country in January 2013. Th e shows will feature music from Kuti’s new studio album, No Place for My Dream, which will be released in 2013 (label and date TBA).

The central aim of No Place for My Dream is getting back to the essence of Afrobeat, the music pioneered by Femi’s legendary father in the late ‘60s. Since beginning his career as a teenager in his father’s band, Femi has struck a delicate balance: carrying the torch, especially the activist dimension, of Afrobeat while developing his own sound. He has been equally committed to protecting, and going beyond, his father’s legacy. He played a key role in celebrating the recent opening of the Kalakuta Museum, which honors his father and his music in Lagos, and was instrumental in bringing the hit Broadway show Fela! there.

Femi recorded No Place for My Dream at the Zarma studio in Paris with the producer Sodi, who produced several Fela albums and has been working with Femi since the latter’s breakthrough, Shoki Shoki, in 1998. Femi just turned 50 in June 2012, and his maturity is audible in the new songs. He is reaching for a new level of musical excellence, and desires, perhaps more than ever, to be the voice of a deprived population. What propels the sound of No Place For My Dream is Femi’s band, the tighter-than-ever Positive Force, which will join him on the tour.

The Mynabirds Release Body of Work 7”

The Mynabirds Release Body of Work 7”
Share Video for “Body of Work”

Purchase the 7” compilation at the Saddle Creek store or digitally at iTunes

Having just released the limited-edition, colored Body of Work 7” on Saddle Creek this week, The Mynabirds commemorate the occasion with the accompanying video for “Body of Work.”  With syncopated beats and playful thumps, layered on top of Laura Burhenn's gospel inspired tone, Burhenn illustrates a playfulness as she combines nature and art in the video, which premiered yesterday on Rolling Stone. "[Director] Allie [Avital Tsypin] and I wanted to create this enchanted world that was basically a collection of moving surrealist paintings inhabited by these pure, joyous people,” explains Burhenn. “And the cinematographers, set designers and cast made it happen in a serious way."

“’Body of Work’ is a reminder of our absolute power to reimagine, redesign, and transform our lives at any given moment into something we enjoy to the utmost, something that’s wholly and fully our own,” says Burhenn. “We are not victims of the past, but artists who can shape it into the most brilliant form imaginable; we are living things, bodies of work to edit.”

Only 1,000 copies of the limited-edition, colored Body of Work 7” vinyl are be available, which features the standout track “Body of Work” from their 2012 critically acclaimed album GENERALS, and paired with the previously unreleased “In the Mouths of Wolves.” The record is housed in a 4-panel jacket that can be folded into an origami wild horse, representing the idea of transformation instilled in the title track.

Line & Circle Announce West Coast Tour Dates With RNDM

Line & Circle Announce West Coast Tour Dates With RNDM
Debut 7" Out Now On White Iris Records

Los Angeles-based Line & Circle's west coast tour with RNDM (featuring Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam and Joseph Arthur) begins this week. The tour kicks off at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on Wednesday and will make stops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver. All tour dates are listed below. Line & Circle is touring in support of its debut 7" single "Roman Ruins" / "Carelessness" out now on White Iris Records. Head over to Stereogum to check out the new video for "Roman Ruins."

Line & Circle has come onto the national scene this year, having recently completed a U.S. tour with White Iris labelmates Electric Guest. These dates featured appearances at CMJ in New York City, including a live radio broadcast for KEXP. Video of the performance is now available on the KEXP website.

Line & Circle was born of the collaboration between Brian J. Cohen & Brian Egan -- natives of Akron and Dayton, Ohio, respectively -- who met in college before moving from the Midwest to Los Angeles. With the assistance of White Iris' Lewis Pesacov, who previously produced Best Coast's debut album, they took to the studio, along with a newly formed band, including guitarist Eric Neujahr, bassist Nathan Gammill and drummer Nick Cisik. There, with nods to early 4AD dream pop and chiming I.R.S. Records-era guitar rock, the group pared the songs to their essence---simple melodic phrases and hooky ostinatos that subvert the complications of the lyrics.

Recorded live, the resulting tracks Roman Ruins (side A) and Carelessness (side B) are soaring and dark and glittering and nostalgic, like the soundtrack to an epic coming-of-age story.
Line & Circle Tour Dates

11/21 - Los Angeles, CA @ Troubadour
11/23 - San Francisco, CA @ Great American Music Hall
11/25 - Portland, OR @ Doug Fir Lounge
11/26 - Vancouver, BC @ Biltmore Cabaret
11/27 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox at the Market
