Foxygen Touring With La Sera and Moonface

Foxygen Touring With La Sera and Moonface
Download MP3 For "Waitin' 4 U"

Foxygen, the bi-coastal songwriting duo of Sam France (vocals, Olympia,Wash., 22 years old) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards, NYC, 22), is now offerinig one of their best songs from the forthcoming Jagjaguwar release Take The Kids Off Broadway. "Waitin' 4 U" wildly, cleverly swings from a winking nod to Prince and Mott the Hoople bedroom glam to a grungy Disco rave up.
"Waitin' 4 U" has nestled itself into the Pitchfork.com Tracks section - our heroes described as "mining at vintage glam and pop sounds from what charmingly sounds like the inside of a cardboard box."

*Magic Castles Supporting

Brian Jonestown Massacre returns to the United States in August to tour supporting their new album, Aufheben, released through Anton Newcombe’s own ‘a’ Records in May 2012. Earlier this spring, the band completed tour dates on the west coast and southwest including headlining Psych Fest in Austin, TX. Then followed sold out dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Adel in Australia and onward to Europe selling out venues in Amsterdam, Berlin, London, and Paris.

Just added and approved for posting, listen to “Blue Order New Monday” at http://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F50913745%3Fsecret_token%3Ds-kODnM&show_artwork=true&secret_url=true

Also approved for posting, share “I Want To Hold Your Other Hand” here: http://soundcloud.com/cargorecords/05-i-wanna-hold-your-other/s-HFbh6

Opening for Brian Jonestown Massacre on the East coast and Midwest dates is the Minneapolis band, Magic Castles who released their eponymous double album in March 2012 through ‘a’ Records.

Anton Newcombe remembers, "The song that introduced me to Magic Castles was ‘Ballad of the Golden Bird.’ I really think it is special, so much so, I decided to ask the group if I could release this record through my label, ‘a’ Records. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do..."

Regarding the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s album title, Aufheben or Aufhebung is a German word with several seemingly contradictory meanings, including "to lift up,” "to abolish’” or "to sublate.” The term has also been defined as "abolish," "preserve," and "transcend." In philosophy, aufheben is used by Hegel to explain what happens when a thesis and antithesis interact.

Brian Jonestown Massacre recorded the new album in Berlin at Anton Newcombe’s studio and the infamous East German Radio Station “Studio East.”

Original member of the band, Matt Hollywood, plays on this album. It also features Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, Spritualized), Constantine Karlis (Dimmer), and Thibault Pesenti (Rockcandys) plus vocal performances by Eliza Karmasalo (in Finnish).

This album brings the traditional Brian Jonestown Massacre sound mixed with eastern influences, bringing it up to date with the benefit of all the additional weirdness that's been discovered in the past 40 years.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre has been somewhat of a musical commune for many respected musicians over the years, a band from the 1990’s that has spurned other great bands ever since. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, The Silver Rockets, The Black Angels, The Ravenettes, The Dilettantes (to name a few) are all part of this musical family tree. Indeed, this is a band that has witnessed many incarnations, since its inception in San Francisco in 1992.

Two dozen band members later and numerous “ups and downs” (some have been famously sensationalized in the media), the one thing that has always remained consistent for this psychedelic collective, is front man Mr. Anton Alfred Newcombe.

Black Lips tour the middle east

BLACK LIPS ANNOUNCE WORLD TOUR WILL EXTEND TO THE MIDDLE EAST

FLOWER PUNK PROGENITORS HEADING ON TWO WEEK TOUR OF EGYPT, IRAQ, JORDAN, AND MORE

The gloriously notorious flower punk quartet Black Lips, in an ongoing attempt to leave no stone unturned in their effort to spread their music globally, are treading a path few Western bands have traveled with a run of dates planned for the Middle East this Fall. "We want to play everywhere on the planet, and the opportunity came up. We couldn't say no," states band bassist and vocalist Jared Swilley. "Anywhere that we haven't been excites us. Not many western bands have toured the region and to be one of the first is amazing. Adventures are the best." With tours in Australia, Thailand, Portugal, India, and huge festival appearances at the likes of Coachella, Primavera, Bonnaroo under their belts, the band are looking to expand their horizons and spread their message of peace, fun, and rock and roll as far as it will go. "People like music and having fun and I think that's pretty universal," adds Swilley.

The dates are in continued support of the semi-appropriately titled Arabia Mountain (it is actually named for a mountain just outside their native Atlanta), the 2011 Mark Ronson-produced masterwork which landed them on the cover of SPIN, and earned high praises from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, among several other distinctions.

THE RAVEONETTES PREMIERE NEW SONG "OBSERVATIONS"

THE RAVEONETTES PREMIERE NEW SONG "OBSERVATIONS"
ON ROLLING STONE

NEW ALBUM OBSERVATOR OUT SEPTEMBER 11TH ON VICE

To get fans excited, The Raveonettes' premiered their new song "Observations" on Rolling Stone.com yesterday. This first track comes from the duo's upcoming album "Observator" out September 11th on Vice Records.

Approved embed link for "Observations"
http://www.vicerecords.com/vicerecords/download/the_raveonettes-observations.mp3

Songwriter Sune Rose Wagner says, "Observations is sort of the blue print for this album. It captures a universal feeling of the outsider in his daily life, his longing and losses in love and his primordial instinct of survival."

"Sharin [Foo] and I went into the legendary Sunset Sound Studios for a week - where The Doors recorded a lot of their classic albums. It was there that a new dimension to the Raveonettes began to develop. The song Observations is very important in that respect; it's the first time we've ever used the piano and what a glorious, gloomy sound it makes. We knew immediately that it was something we needed to expand on. But make no mistake; Observator is still a gorgeous guitar album."

In support of their new album The Raveonettes will hit the road in September, playing dates in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles before wrapping up in San Francisco this October. Tour dates below.

Xu Xu Fang head into the studio

Xu Xu Fang 2

Xu Xu Fang Head Into Studio For Long-Awaited Debut Full-Length Album

High Praise from Mojo, Los Angeles Times, Pitchfork, USA Today, KCRW and Amazon Sales Charting from Prior EPs and One-Offs, Xu Xu Fang Heads Into the Studio After Time Spent With Noted Producer/Mixers Ethan Allen and Alain Johannes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, CA (Tuesday, June 26, 2012) – Los Angeles band Xu Xu Fang (http://www.xuxufang.com) announced today that they are in the midst of producing their debut full-length album with producer Ethan Allen (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Tricky, Sleepy Sun). A sample of the music the band and Allen are currently working on can be heard here: http://soundcloud.com/xuxufang/album-preview

Xu Xu Fang’s earlier efforts (These Days (2007), The Mourning Son (2008), Seven Days Now (2009) and various one-offs for compilations) have garnered fans in both the press and music circles at large. The Los Angeles Times, Mojo, Pitchfork, USA Today and others have praised the band’s sound and creativity including The Onion who described their music as, "Enormous, dark, psychedelic, beautiful, and full of meditative moods." As if that wasn’t enough, their Seven Days Now landed at #1 on Amazon's Trip Hop sales chart and The Mourning Son simultaneously reached #3 on Amazon's Psychedelic Rock sales chart.

“Xu Xu Fang disappeared for the last year or so to concentrate on new songs, and get this record together,” said songwriter, drummer, and co-producer Bobby Tamkin (formerly of The Warlocks). “Our new music is far beyond anything we've done before. The songwriting, sonics and production have stepped up big time. If I had to compare our new music to anything, I’d probably say a sad, yet tasty ‘Diamond Dave’ era Van Halen hand roll with salmon and avocado."

It’s been a strange and wonderful ride for Xu Xu Fang since their debut. In December 2009, Xu Xu Fang’s single “Your Way” premiered on the TV show Gossip Girl and was named Today's Top Tune on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. Singles “These Days” and “The Mourning Son” were also scooped up by the hit TV show. High praise from unlikely sources followed as Xu Xu Fang was handpicked by Swervedriver to open the Los Angeles date on their reunion tour while The Cocteau Twins Simon Raymonde personally wrote them a note proclaiming, “Fuck me sideways, if this isn’t some of the best new music I’ve heard.”

With an LA Weekly Music Award under their belt, the band found success in various self-released tracks that appeared on EPs and one-off compilations. Each turn garnered the band newfound attention. In 2009, Xu Xu Fang covered The Cure’s “Fascination Street” for a tribute record, and gained a fan in Sex Pistol Steve Jones who made the song a mainstay on his radio show, Jonesy’s Jukebox. The tune was included in a USA Today podcast while Pitchfork hailed the version as, “A trip through Massive Attack's Mezzanine, with static crackle, flutes, and a portentous tom beat inverting the sentiment from wide-eyed wonder to heavy-lidded menace.” Randall Roberts of the LA Weekly called it, “A deep psychedelic meditation, a beautiful recording.” European summer festival offers poured in shortly afterward.

Xu Xu Fang's 2010 cover of David Bowie’s “China Girl” for another tribute record, scuttled the pop sheen of the original and gave way to a new, downright brooding, and unique version. MOJO Magazine praised the track by writing, “Xu Xu Fang’s baked trip-hop China Girl…beats the recognized talent (Duran Duran, Edward Sharpe, Warpaint).”

Enter 2011, and producer/mixer, Alain Johannes. Known for his riff-heavy work with wildly successful arena rock bands, Johannes took an interest in Xu Xu Fang, and invited the band to his studio to work on new songs. It is these songs and many others that are forming the basis of the as-yet-untitled debut full-length record, which the band is currently working on with Ethan Allen.
