introducing N0V3L. Announce debut EP on Flemish Eye. Unveil "Natural" & "To Whom It May Concern"

Vancouver's N0V3L will release their debut EP NOVEL on February 15 on Flemish Eye Records. Listen to "Natural" and "To Whom It May ConcernhereN0V3L will tour the UK and EU prior to the EP's release. Full details below.

N0V3L occupies a sonic landscape that recalls spring-loaded post-punk dissonance, new-wave's downcast dance anthems, and laser-precise political funk. NOVEL, their eight-track debut EP, is a fluorescent, freshly-scorched declaration of intent, a martial, brutalist slab of nimble melodics and group-yelped anti-capitalist mantras: "Time is a resource/To use and to treasure!" they cry on opener, "To Whom It May Concern." From the numerics in their name to their black/white/red aesthetic scheme, N0V3L is a carefully-calculated machine.
Frigid, wiry guitars scramble and sprint in syncopated riffs, circling each other, sparse and chiming in their aesthetic but frenetic all the same. Percussion is at turns stern and playful, from loose, brash funk strains on "Will To Power" to airtight disco beats on "Natural." Bass work here, with its own thumping neon flourishes, is not so much an accompaniment but an intricate piece of this web of sounds, as critical and imaginative as the leads it lurks behind. Vocals, typically sung in unison, are sneering and sharp and jagged like the provocations they carry: "Sign on the line/Devalue your time!" they jeer on"Sign On The Line." Later, on closer "Division," they lament and reject institutionalized oppressions: "State-endorsed bigotry/Lies from the factory!"
It feels crass to call N0V3L a band-the word feels cumbersome and bloated with traditionalist connotations. N0V3L is a self-sustaining creative collective operating out of a house in Vancouver, where they produce their own music, videos, and clothing. These elements converge and convulse to create music that challenges the gluttony and ruin wrought by power, while humming along with kaleidoscopic spontaneity into a tightly-wound audible world that is at once jarring and violently danceable. N0V3L's debut EP is a call to a burnt-out dance floor, where the dance floor has become a space of dialogue and action and resistance.

Chewing, the brand-new side project of Local Natives' Nik Ewing, will release the next album in Turntable Kitchen's SOUNDS DELICIOUS vinyl subscription series, a full-album cover of Dennis Wilson's debut album Pacific Ocean Blue. Since its release in 1977, Pacific Ocean Blue has become a cult classic, and Ewing says of his take, "I wanted to re-imagine this album in a much darker and ambient context." (Read his full statement below). The record features all of Ewing's Local Natives bandmates, as well as Cults, The Gloomies, Chris Chu of POP ETC, Evan Voytas, and Nico Segal. Billboard announced the record today and premiered "River Song" (featuring Local Natives) and "Moonshine" (featuring Cults), writing, "'River Song' rolls along on heavy production that sways between minimal and intense, from discordant to comforting, with help from his bandmates' beautifully accentuating harmonies. Later, with 'Moonshine,' Cults' Madeline Follin takes the lead with distorted vocals floating over atmospheric composition, delivering an airiness that runs through the LP."

Chewing's Pacific Ocean Blues will be available December 21 exclusively on vinyl via Turntable Kitchen's SOUNDS DELICIOUS subscription series. It is strictly limited edition and will feature the below original artwork by Teresa Grasseschi. Pre-orders are availableHERE.

Nik Ewing on Pacific Ocean Blue:

With zero hyperbole, driving across LA can take half an hour or four days. One of the more manageable times I drove across the city, it took me 37:15, the length of Pacific Ocean Blue by Dennis Wilson. Like many important first album listening experiences, the entire environment surrounding that listen burnt into my memory. It was like that sad, dark album was made specifically for that specific sad, dark drive across LA. A haunted, outcast Beach Boy who still sung simple Beach Boy lyrics like "I'm sorry, I miss you" but whose weathered voice is painfully more honest without the hollow late 70's shine from his band (who seemingly didn't miss him that much).

I really love when artists give their own radical take on a song (Jukebox by Cat Power is criminally underrated IMO). Luckily this album isn't as "sacred" as if I covered Pet Sounds in its entirety, which allowed me a lot more liberty. I wanted to re-imagine this album in a much darker and ambient context: to flow like a lost mixtape, to sound cohesive with all the voices (and trumpet, hi Nico!) weaving in and out throughout (and obviously I couldn't NOT have my band contribute beautiful, lush harmonies to a Beach Boy cover album).

SOUNDS DELICIOUS is a first-of-its-kind monthly vinyl subscription service. SOUNDS DELICIOUS will offer full-length cover albums - exclusively featuring music not available anywhere else - on limited edition vinyl.

Little Dragon Release "Lover Chanting" (Jayda G Remix)

Returns to the U.S. to Headline New Year’s Eve Event in San Francisco with Special Guests

Little Dragon shared a new remix of their latest single “Lover Chanting,” courtesy of Canadian DJ/producer Jayda G. Taking the soulful, addictive hook of the original, the new remix is a pulsating slice of groove-laden house and the perfect club anthem. “Lover Chanting (Jayda G Remix)” is available to stream/purchase from all DSP’s HERE.

The band returned in the autumn with the release of their Lover Chanting EP--the band’s first ever EP and also the first via new label home Ninja Tune. The 3-track EP was self-produced by the band in their Gothenburg studio and the title track featured an otherworldly video directed by Jack Whiteley (Young Fathers, Spring King) and Joe Wills. Watch the video, featuring the band in a disco-themed RPG alongside a host of suitably off-the-wall cosplay characters, HERE. And you can stream/purchase the Lover Chanting EP HERE.

In support of the release, Little Dragon performed several dates in the U.S. including sold out headline shows in New York City, Washington, DC and more, and at Camp Flog Gnaw in Los Angeles. On release day, they also hosted a Spotify “Fans First”event at Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, CA. See a recap of the evening HERE, and be sure to see them when they return to the U.S. for a very special New Year’s Eve event at San Francisco’s The Midway with Modeselektor, TOKiMONSTA and more (tickets).

In the wake of the triumphant headline stand at the Austin City Limits festival that the Austin American Statesman called “A Marathon to Remember Forever,”  Paul McCartney has added yet another show to the upcoming U.S. leg of his new Freshen Up tour. The newly confirmed July 10, 2019 show at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA is the newest addition to Paul’s first extended Stateside run since the One On One Tour that played to some two million fans around the world during 2016 and 2017.
The Freshen Up tour is Paul’s first outing following the release of his #1 charting album, Egypt Station, released September 7th on Capitol Records to stellar reviews: Rolling Stone raved, “Macca keeps adding new gems to his songbook, with nothing to prove except he’s the only genius who can do this… And, oh yeah — in his spare time, he happens to still be the greatest live performer on Earth,” while Entertainment Weekly described the album as “the still-vital life force of a superstar who has been there and everywhere and is glad just to be here now.”
The Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a show: Nearly three hours nightly of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music, dozens of songs from Paul’s solo, Wings and of course Beatles catalogues that have formed the soundtracks of our lives. Paul and his band have played an unparalleled range of venues and locations throughout the Americas, the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and all points between: outside the Coliseum in Rome, Moscow’s Red Square, Buckingham Palace, The White House, a free show in Mexico for over 400,000 people, the last ever show at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park where The Beatles played their final concert in 1966, a 2016 week in the California desert that included two headline sets at the historic Desert Trip festival and a jam-packed club gig for a few hundred lucky fans at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, and even one performance broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul’s band of the last 15+ years – Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) –and constantly upgraded state of the art audio and video technology that ensures an unforgettable experience from every seat in the house, a Paul McCartney concert is never anything short of life-changing.
Tickets will be on sale for Paul’s San Jose show 10am local time Monday, December 17th.
American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Wednesday, December 14 at 10am through Sunday, December 16 at 10pm local time.

Yann Tiersen Shares New Video And Song; Announces North American Tour

Photo: Christopher Fernandez (hi-res)
YANN TIERSEN has shared “Koad,” a striking new video and track taken from his tenth studio album, ALL, which is released February 15. Preorder ALL and watch the “Koad” video here. In addition to his new video, Tiersen has announced a North American tour taking place in the spring of 2019. A full itinerary is available below.
“Koad,” with vocals by Swedish artist Anna Von Hausswolff, includes field recordings of a redwood forest in Devon, England behind the Schumacher College, one of the world’s leading institutions for the study of ecology. Schumacher College, which Tiersen describes as “a concentration of hope in a small place,” has been an important influence on the album, and helped to shape ALL’s overriding theme: ecology, environment and our connection to nature.
ALL is the first album to be recorded at Tiersen’s new studio, venue and community center, The Eskal. The Eskal was built in an abandoned discotheque on Ushant, a small island positioned in the Celtic Sea between Brittany and Cornwall, Tiersen’s home for the past 15 years.
Mixed and produced by Tiersen and Gareth Jones, ALL incorporates recordings from Brittany, as well as those taken in a forest of redwood trees in Devon, England and at Berlin’s decommissioned Tempelhof airport. For “Usal Road,” Tiersen returned to a particularly significant spot in California (Usal Road, situated on the Lost Coast) to record violin. This place holds symbolic meaning to Tiersen after he was chased by a mountain lion there in 2014, an event which triggered a renewed and deeper connection to nature and specifically our humble place within it.
Predominately sung in the Breton language, the album features several guest vocalists: Anna von Hausswolff (“Koad”), Ólavur Jákupsson (“Erc’h”) and singer-songwriters Denez Prigent (“Gwennilied”), Emilie Tiersen and Gaëlle Kerrien.
The album release coincides with an extensive tour throughout 2019. Yann Tiersen’s previous album, EUSA, was preceded by two sold out dates at the Barbican in London. He went on to perform in some of the world’s most prestigious venues and festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Berlin Philharmonic, Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Turin, Italy, Teatro Principal in Zaragoza, Spain, Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece, the Sydney Opera House and the Grand Hall of the Philharmonia in St, Petersburg, Russia. Featuring "Doubt" & Cover of Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again"

Stone Woman EP Out Now

"Charlotte Day Wilson is a one-person powerhouse. The Toronto soul musician creates emotionally captivating songs by letting life simmer." - THE FADER

"Charlotte Day Wilson has a voice that can hold a room." - PITCHFORK
"An artist in complete control who doesn't shy away from displaying her vulnerability." - KCRW
"Stone Woman is an exercise in toiling in hurt and trying to express it thoughtfully." - NOISEY

"[A] rising multi-faceted powerhouse who is bridging the worlds of soul and R&B with her infectious music and production." - V MAGAZINE
"She can shush viewers to silence with heart-wrenching lyrics and rile them up with a surprise saxophone solo-all in the same song." - HARPER'S BAZAAR

Charlotte Day Wilson had an incredible 2018, a year that saw the release of her acclaimed second EP, Stone Woman, followed by sold-out tours across North American and Europe. She caps off the year with the release of her Spotify Singles, featuring live versions of her single "Doubt" and a cover of Dolly Parton's 1977 hit "Here You Come Again."

Since its release in February, Stone Woman has been streamed over 30 million times across all platforms. For the second time, Wilson was nominated for a Polaris Music Prize (her first EP CDW was nominated in 2017), and her video for "Work" (off CDW) was awarded the 2018 Prism Prize for best Canadian music video. Wilson and the video's director Fantavious Fritz used the prize money to create the Work Film Grant, a fund that awarded $10,000 to emerging female and non-binary directors.

Charlotte Day Wilson performed on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic in the spring, a session that the station called "stunning." April also saw the release of "No Pain," the DJDS single featuring Wilson on vocals alongside Khalid and Charlie Wilson. In July, she performed at the after party for the Louis Vuitton men's fashion show in Paris at the personal invitation of designer Virgil Abloh.

Charlotte Day Wilson will return in 2019 with more new music. Watch this space for more updates.

Charlotte Day Wilson is a 26-year-old vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Toronto.

With roots ranging from R&B to folk, her soulful, singular voice and timeless sound garnered global attention with the 2016 release of her debut EP CDW, and through her work with friends and collaborators BADBADNOTGOOD, Daniel Caesar and River Tiber.
The November 2017 release of single "Doubt" marked her first new music in more than a year, an intimate yet accessible anthem for the unsure, driven by the strength and honesty of her voice. As with all her previous works, Charlotte served as performer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, an artist in full control of her unique creative vision.
"Doubt" also represented the opening salvo of Charlotte's second release, Stone Woman, a six-track project self-released February 23. Stone Woman is Charlotte's first project in the 18 months since CDW, and it chronicles the growth and uncertainty of that period, and a search for a sense of truth and identity.
"It's about recurring themes and issues repeating themselves in relationships," Charlotte told Pigeons & Planes in a January 2018 interview around the announcement of the EP.
"Stone Woman was a lyric I came up with for a song. As soon as the words came out of my mouth I knew there was a story I wanted to tell about this image of cold strength and beauty I was conjuring in my mind. When I was writing I kept coming back to those two words and I found an identity in them. It helped me understand how my stoic tendencies effect my relationships. It fit perfectly as the title."
The project represented a return as poignant as it was anticipated. The introductory CDW has been collectively streamed more than 25 million times and in June of 2017 it was named to the long list for the Polaris Music Prize.
"In Your Eyes," Charlotte's stirring vocal feature on BBNG's 2016 release IV, landed on the Polaris short list, while also earning BBC6 Music's Album Of The Year honor. Charlotte toured extensively in 2016 and 2017, selling out headline shows and sharing stages with Local Natives, Angel Olsen, BADBADNOTGOOD, Daniel Caesar, Thundercat, Syd, and many more.
But the release of Stone Woman marked a new chapter for Charlotte, one defined by clarity, vulnerability and strength. It was a clear statement of intent, a stirring demonstration of Charlotte's power and poise and her emergence as an essential voice in 2019 and beyond.
