Jack White performs free surprise concert at Tesla's Fremont, CA factory

Jack White made a special visit to the Tesla factory in Fremont, CA, earlier today, surprising the Tesla team with a free concert which was broadcast to employees around the world. Prior to the concert, White toured the innovative manufacturing plant and enjoyed a test ride in Tesla's new Model 3 Performance at the factory's test track.

"I am a huge fanatic and supporter of everything Tesla has been doing since day one," says White. "I'm proud to say I was one of the first Model S owners in Nashville, which I think is the greatest automobile ever made. It's been a thought of mine for a few years now that I would love to do a free concert for the employees at the Fremont factory. I believe that what Tesla is doing is so important for the future of how we look at car design itself. The added benefits of its help towards fixing climate change and taking the world away from the internal combustion engine are incredible. Making cars that are safer for the occupants and others on the road also fulfill the pioneered dreams of automobile entrepreneur, Preston Tucker, which ultimately is the definition of the American dream. I'm very excited to play for Tesla's employees who are doing so much good for the progression of technology and the world right now."

Cal Jam 18 Takes Place October 5th & 6th
At San Bernardino's Glen Helen Regional Park
Foo Fighters' Cal Jam 18 is right around the corner, and to celebrate the impending all day rock fest, they've announced a very special pop-up taking place Sunday, August 26th at the Hollywood Palladium from 3pm-7pm. The event will be all ages and free! Get your tailgate on early and enjoy exclusive merch deals, photo opps with the throne and white limo, plus food and drinks and even more good times.

As a special offer only available at the pop-up, you can snag for $49 the newly announced General Admission Lawn Only tickets with no service fees courtesy of Harley-Davidson.

Tickets are also available at Ticketmaster.com and caljamfest.com/tickets. General Admission Lawn Only tickets will get you access to the mainstage LAWN AREA ONLY, Sun and Mountain stages, carnival rides and general parking.  This year, Saturday ticket holders have the option to buy a Friday night ticket for $30 (plus taxes and fees). All camping packages include free entrance to the Friday Night Party with performances by Billy Idol, Bridget Everett, Mexrrisey, Cosmic Kahuna and more, plus first access to ride the rides and see the museum.

For those not familiar with Cal Jam 18:

A year after the legendary debut weekend from which 30,000+ true rock believers have barely recovered... Cal Jam 18 is back for another weekend of joyful rock-n-roll abandon featuring 20+ bands on four stages this October 5-6, 2018. Promoted by Live Nation, the festival returns to Glen Helen Regional Park and Amphitheater in San Bernardino, CA, for an even more monolithic second incarnation of what the Los Angeles Times cited as the reason fans "come to music festivals: to feel connection and catharsis."

The good times begin with the Friday night party on October 5th, where those with camping passes and Friday night tickets will be invited to kick off the festival with 80s punk legend Billy Idol. Also on the bill is Bridget Everett, the comedian who Jerry Seinfeld called, "one of the greatest live performers I have ever seen in my life,"and Mexico City's Mexrrissey, performing their set of Smiths and Morrissey cover songs in Spanish, Cosmic Kahuna, plus so much more. Friday night attendees will also have first crack at the carnival rides and the Rock-N-Roll Museum.

On Saturday, October 6th, Cal Jam will continue last year's tradition of a 12-hour rock extravaganza where anything can happen-literally anything: last year saw the likes of Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Rick Astley, Dave Koz, Liam Gallagher and more joining the Foo Fighters on stage (yes, all during the same show). Foo Fighters will close the proceedings with one of their traditional rock marathons, bringing back what Forbes called "another great rock and roll party from the band who does them better than anyone else today." And where last year's inaugural festival was the beginning of the Foo Fighters' Concrete and Gold Tour, this year's appearance brings it full circle as the tour's final show in the LA area.

This year Foo Fighters will be have set themselves up to play after literally the single hardest act to follow in the history of live music: the legendary Iggy Pop. Iggy's Cal Jam 18 performance will be an exclusive one-off reunion with the all-star Post Pop Depression band that backed him on the handful of shows played in support of the album of the same name, featuring Queens of The Stone Age's Joshua Homme, Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen and Arctic Monkeys' drummer Matt Helders.

The incomparable Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D will bring 'The Metal' to the masses, and alternative pop-rock icons Garbage will be bring their powerhouse live show to the stage. Greta van Fleet will take over the stage with their show stopping guitar riffs, and also joining the bill will be some of the best that rock and roll has to offer from around the world with the likes of Silversun Pickups, Manchester Orchestra, Krist Novoselic's new band Giant In The Trees, Slaves (UK), Gang of Youths, Black Mountain and more performing throughout the day. See full list below.

In addition to the full day of shred, the festival will include a number of activities open to attendees. Campers will be treated to outdoor midnight movies and access to the water park.  As well as the newly christened Friday Night Comedy Tent curated by comedian Tim Hanlon (aka Dave's cousin). Stay tuned for the full schedule to be announced! All ticket holders will be able to enjoy the site's free carnival rides, the Rock-N-Roll museum, pop up record shop and a hillside full of flappy guys. Because we can. For those who are looking to imbibe in tasty eats and cold drinks, Cal Jam 18 offers a wide variety of curated food trucks, traditional festival food, and all sorts of delicious delicious cold beer.

Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has officially announced today’s release of their ninth studio LP, “Thank You for Today.” The album – which includes the chart-topping new single, “Gold Rush” – is available now at all music retailers and streaming services.

“Gold Rush” recently ascended to #1 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart in just its fifth week of release – the band’s quickest-ever rise to the top at the format. In addition, “Gold Rush” marks Death Cab for Cutie’s fifth single to reach #1 at the format. In addition, “Gold Rush” is now among the top 10 at Alternative radio outlets across the country.

“Gold Rush” was greeted with a tremendous response from fans and critics upon its spring release, with Stereogum heralding the track “one of the best Death Cab singles in recent memory,” and NPR declaring “Death Cab for Cutie is back with some pretty great new music.” The track is accompanied by a new companion visual, directed by Alex Southam (alt-J, Mumford & Sons) and streaming HERE.

Death Cab for Cutie marked this week’s arrival of “Thank You for Today” with a pair of high-profile TV appearances, among them ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (streamingHERE) and CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden (streaming HERE). The band also recently performed “Gold Rush” on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, streaming HERE.

“Thank You for Today” was produced and mixed by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, Muse), following his previous collaboration with Death Cab for Cutie on the band’s 2015 GRAMMY® Award-nominated “KINTSUGI.” The LP marks the first Death Cab for Cutie release to see long time bandmates Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr joined in the studio by new members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Gnarls Barkley). Depper and Rae have both been part of Death Cab’s touring band since 2015.

The album – which also includes such acclaimed new tracks as “Autumn Love” and “I Dreamt We Spoke Again” – received its official world premiere earlier this week via anNPR Music First Listen, which declared, “For a band in its third decade… Death Cab hasn't lost its gift for pairing Gibbard's soft ruminations with propulsive arrangements that know just when to sparkle and sway. But even more importantly, Gibbard himself still sings with a sense of purpose, keenly articulating a distinct swirl of nostalgia, loss and hope for new beginnings.

Additional early raves include Entertainment Weekly, which declared “Thank You For Today” to be a poignant return to form for the band. At just 10 tracks, its brevity is both refreshing and consistently piercing, with frontman Ben Gibbard’s storytelling abilities remaining just as steadfast as they were when the group formed 20 years ago in Bellingham, Washington.” “Thank You For Today” is “the most immersive alt-rock album you’ll hear all year - ★★★★ wrote the UK’s Independent. “A new look, [the] five-piece iteration of the band has turned in its most adventurous set of songs yet.” “‘Thank You For Today’ feels like the natural beginning of the next chapter of Death Cab For Cutie, doing so with one of their most ‘Death Cab’ sounding albums in years,” raved Dork, “…it feels like a pivotal moment - a band with an undeniable legacy opening up and becoming something invigoratingly new.”

Death Cab for Cutie will celebrate “Thank You for Today” with a much-anticipated fall tour. The dates – which see the 8x GRAMMY® Award-nominated band playing intimate venues and theatres across North America – begin September 24th at Eugene, OR’s Hult Center for the Performing Arts and travel through mid-October (see attached itinerary). Support on most dates comes from Charly Bliss; Cold War Kids will support on September 27th. For complete details, please visit www.deathcabforcutie.com.

One dollar from each ticket purchased through the band’s website will go towards The Aurora Commons – a Seattle based non-profit organization which offers a safe space for unhoused neighbors to rest, prepare a meal, connect to resources, and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community.

In addition, Death Cab for Cutie has just announced a very special show set for Friday, September 28th at Los Angeles’ famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Tickets for the exclusive event – which sees support from Charly Bliss – are available now HERE.

What’s more, Death Cab for Cutie is currently poised to embark on a series of headline shows and festival performances. The itinerary Las Vegas, NV’s Life Is Beautiful Music & Art Festival (September 21), Santiago, Chile’s Fauna Primavera (November 10th), Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Personal Fest 2018 (November 11th), and São Paulo, Brazil’s Popload Festival (November 15th) and Mexico City, Mexico’s Corona Capital 2018 (November 18th). As if all that weren’t enough, a European headline run begins January 24th, 2019 at Dublin, Ireland’s landmark Olympia Theatre and then makes stops across the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

Today, Papdosio releases the title track, “Content Coma” off their new record out Sept.  7Content Coma finds Papadosio pushing their boundaries as a band both in and out of the studio. Resulting in the band’s most experimental and progressive-rock leaning record to date.  Papadosio has released two other tracks from their new album; “Pool of Stars” and “Distress Signal”.
In addition to the new album, the band is preparing to head out on a large national tour that will support the release of the new record.  The tour will include coast to coast stops including New York City, Chicago, LA and everywhere in between. The band will finish out 2018 with a New Years Eve show in Nashville.

The exploratory and progressive rock band, Papadosio has announced the release of their next full length album, Content Coma, due out on September 7.

For the first time in their career, the band has gone into a recording studio for this album where they recorded the drums, grand piano, and bass.  Originally, the band created and hosted their musical ideas and thoughts on the online collaborative platform, Splice.   There they began their process with over 30 ideas for this record.

“We have self recorded and produced all of our releases in order to make the final product as unique and personal as possible. By recording the raw drum tracks in a professional setting, it really opened up the sonic range of what we had to work with while mixing. With each album, our sound progresses and we think this album is a generous step forward in our songwriting, our production techniques and our sonic palette."

Daughters' Album, You Won't Get What You Want, Arrives Oct. 26 via Ipecac; "The Reason They Hate Me" Streaming Now

You Won’t Get What You Want album cover (art by Jesse Draxler)
Aug. 17, 2018, Providence, R.I. – Daughters, the Rhode Island-based noise impresarios, have confirmed that their highly-anticipated and much speculated about full-length album, You Won’t Get What You Want, arrives on Oct. 26 via Ipecac Recordings.

You Won’t Get What You Want is a decided effort to reference both my admiration for and my influence from, film composition and other minimalist music, along with a few moments of self-reference,” says guitar player Nick Sadler of the band’s eagerly-awaited album.

Along with news of the release, comes a second preview of music from the 10-song offering, with the song, “The Reason They Hate Me” (http://smarturl.it/Daughters) being made available today. “We find ourselves at another reveal,” offers singer Alexis Marshall. “With ‘The Reason They Hate Me’ we break from the narrative for a meditation on opinions and their assertion. For those insisting their critique is art: they’ve got a name for people like you.” Daughters previously shared the track “Satan in the Wait” (https://youtu.be/tSl4w6PXVbY), with both songs being offered as instant downloads with digital pre-orders. Pre-orders are available both digitally (http://smarturl.it/Daughters) and physically (https://revolvemerchandise.shop/ipecac-music-store), with available bundles including a London fog and clear smoke vinyl, hoodies, t-shirts and an exclusive slip mat only available with pre-orders.

Daughters embark on a limited U.S. tour this fall, kicking off the nine-city trek on Halloween in Richmond, Va. Several of the dates have already sold out.

Stream The Diet, the luminous new album from Cullen Omori, available worldwide today from Sub Pop

Cullen Omori’s The Diet is now available worldwide on Sub Pop. The new album, led by the singles "Four Years," "A Real You" and "Happiness Reigns," is buoyed by warped, analog pedals/transistors, tailor-made guitar tones that crisscross ‘70s art rock vocals and classic songwriting all within the span of 40 minutes. You can now stream The Diet in its entirety via Spotify and Apple Music.

The Line of Best Fit had this to say of the album, “It’s all so hopeful and luminous, a reflection of the headspace the singer’s now in, worlds apart from a couple years ago. Omori’s rediscovered life’s good side, and found more of himself in the process; ultimately, that’s led to him being able to pour a whole lot more of his heart and soul into his songs, and it’s a beautiful thing (8/10).” Pitchfork offered this, “The former Smith Westerns member’s second album represents a return to his core strengths: crystalline, cosmically ornate melodies and wryly clear-eyed lyrics.” And PopMatters raves, “The resulting sound is inventive, fun, fresh, and perhaps Omori's best release to-date (8/10).”

The Diet is now available now through Sub Pop. LP purchases through megamart.subpop.com and select independent retailers will receive the limited Loser edition on lavender swirl vinyl (while supplies last). A new t-shirt design is also available.
