April 29, 2024—Kamasi Washington unveils a new song, “Get Lit” featuring funk icon George Clinton and Inglewood rapper D Smoke—listen here. The track is taken from his new album, Fearless Movement, set for release this Friday, May 3 via Young. Pre-order/Pre-save Fearless Movement here.
Washington will embark on an extensive North American tour this spring, kicking off May 4 at New York’s Beacon Theatre with further dates including ChicagoHouston, San Francisco the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, which he will co-curate with Herbie Hancock for the second year in a row, on June 16 and Newport Jazz Festival on August 2, followed by a European tour in the fall. See below for full tour routing.
Washington calls Fearless Movement his dance album. “It’s not literal,” Washington says. “Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music—expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.”
Dance as an embodied form of expression signals a shift in focus for Washington. Where previous albums dealt with cosmic ideas and existential concepts, Fearless Movement focuses in on the everyday, an exploration of life on earth. This change in scope is due in large part to the birth of Washington’s first child a few years ago.
“Being a father means the horizon of your life all of a sudden shows up,” says Washington. “My mortality became more apparent to me, but also my immortality—realizing that my daughter is going to live on and see things that I’m never going to see. I had to become comfortable with this, and that affected the music that I was making.”
The album features Washington’s daughter—who wrote the melody to “Asha The First” during some of her first experimentations on the piano—as well as a host of collaborators new and old. André 3000 appears on flute, George Clinton lends his voice, as do BJ The Chicago Kid, D Smoke and Taj and Ras Austin of Coast Contra, the twin sons of West Coast legend Ras Kass. Washington further enlisted lifelong friends and collaborators ThundercatTerrace MartinPatrice QuinnBrandon ColemanDJ Battlecat and more.
The album features previously shared singles “Prologue” and “Dream State” with André 3000 as well as “The Garden Path,” a song Washington performed for the first time ever, making his late-night television debut, on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Kamasi Washington is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader born and raised in Los Angeles. His three bodies of work to date—The EpicHarmony of Difference, an EP originally commissioned for the 2017 Whitney Biennial; and Heaven and Earth—are among the most acclaimed of this century. As Told To G/D Thyself, his short film companion to Heaven and Earth, debuted at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival to widespread acclaim. In 2020, Washington scored the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming, earning Emmy and Grammy nominations for his work. Also in 2020, Washington co-founded the supergroup Dinner Party with longtime friends and collaborators Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper and 9th Wonder—their EP Dinner Party (Dessert) was subsequently nominated for a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album. In 2021, he contributed a cover of Metallica’s “My Friend of Misery” to the band’s Metallica Blacklist covers project. Washington has toured the world over and collaborated and shared stages with Kendrick Lamar, Florence + the Machine, Herbie Hancock and many more.

The Lemon Twigs Release New Single And Video “How Can I Love Her More?”

The Lemon Twigs Release New Single And Video “How Can I Love Her More?”

New Album A Dream Is All We Know Out May 3 On Captured Tracks

Summer Tour On Sale Now – NYC Double Header Already Sold Out

Watch The Lemon Twigs 2024 Performance on Fallon HERE

Today, The Lemon Twigs — NYC’s sibling duo composed of Brian and Michael D’Addario — release “How Can I Love Her More?”, the thematic backbone of their forthcoming album, A Dream Is All We Know (out May 3 on Captured Tracks).

Wrestling with love and lost love, “How Can I Love Her More?” is a whirlwind of musical flights of fancy. Blaring horns and strings set the stage before the song settles into a rollicking shuffle, complete with two drum sets, an adventurous bass part, theremin, flutes and harpsichord — “How Can I Love Her More?” is The Lemon Twigs at their multi-instrumentalist best.

Watch and listen to “How Can I Love Her More?”, directed and edited by The Lemon Twigs, the video is a cheeky trip through Central Park, museum row, and moments of NYC mischief, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbppp0j7f5w

Says Michael D’Addario on the track: “With “How Can I Love Her More?” we tried to bridge the gap between professional Brill Building writing and the more off the wall writing style of the post Sgt Pepper psychedelic scene. There are a lot of musical ideas but it’s still a catchy pop song. We had a lot of fun with the recording of this one, overdubbing two drum sets, some theremin, and strings and horns (all played by Brian).”

Recorded completely to tape and mixed and mastered by Brian and Michael themselves on of-the-era equipment, A Dream Is All We Know presents a tracklist that is historically accurate, but altogether new. From the timeless tropes of the  Lennon-McCartney songbook — including the most explicit example yet, with co-production on “In The Eyes Of The Girl” by Sean Ono Lennon — to the skyrocketing harmonies of the Wilson family and nods to The Move, Big Star, Tradewinds and more, A Dream Is All We Know revisits the 1968 sound the D’Addarios teased the potential of making almost a decade ago on Do Hollywood.

Most recently, The Lemon Twigs have been praised by Questlove for going “full Debarge” on their 2023 LP Everything Harmony, described as “remarkably inventive… harmonically unlike anything that’s come before them” by Michael McDonald on Rick Beato’s show, and performed “My Golden Years” and “How Can I Love Her More?” on WNYC All Of It, who praised the tracks for their “masterful pastiche”. Praise For A Dream Is All We Know:

““My Golden Years” is infectious, with the band sounding like they now favor feelings over faithful homage.” —FADER

“[The Lemon Twigs] are operating at the very peak of their songwriting power.” —The Guardian

"Shimmering guitar melodies and a propulsive drum groove... “My Golden Years” has serious Beach Boys vibes." —FLOOD

““My Golden Years” is a genuinely good song, with passionate vocals that lean more custom than copycat.” —Nylon

“Grand pop songs that harken back to the psychedelia and prog rock of the 1960s and 70s… masterful pastiche.” —WNYC

“A fresh, dozen-track bushel of pond-crossing ’60s sensibilities… “They Don’t Know How To Fall In Place” oozes that iconic 1960s counterculture aesthetic.” KUTX Song Of The Day

Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange. More information on how the Ticketmaster Exchange works is available here.
