Soul-pop newcomer MEIYI provides the dreamy escapism on sultry new track 'Honest', an introspective, confessional thought piece, marking an impressive debut. The London based singer-songwriter fuses folk and soul with a unique voice and beautiful lyricism, entwining bluesy chords and R&B beats with breezy, intricate vocals.
She says: "Honest is a reluctant but tender confession of love. Failing for someone can be terrifying -you're out of control but you wouldn't change it. I wanted to capture the joy and frustration in that kind of surrender."
Born in Singapore then raised in Belgium to a Chinese-Malay mother and British father, MEIYI never fit a singular box. Her musical education was much the same. Raised on the likes of Bob-Dylan and Fleetwood Mac but captivated by neo-soul artists in her teens. MEIYI draws from both worlds, inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu and Leif Vollebekk.
Currently working on new material, both solo and collaborations. Look out for her hybrid sound and husky honest vocals.
