Austin’s Calliope Musicals will release a new LP Color/Sweat on June 14 via Rhyme & Reason Records. Today they share a new single "Fear This Body" and the band'sCarrie Fussell says the song "was written during a remarkably challenging tour. I was in a particularly low spot, and I was noticing that throughout my life, I have always taken arms against my body in various ways; some culturally conditioned, and perhaps some that just existed inside me naturally somewhere. My body can do some really special stuff (I ran a whole mile the other day?!?) -- honestly everyone's can. Our bodies can move or be remarkably still, they can move large objects and swim and bend and mend; they can even just exist and take up space on a spinning rock in the very middle of infinity, which is maybe the most miraculous thing of all. Although it became second nature to see my body as some sort of obstacle to overcome, i know logically that my body is pretty bad ass, and that she can do some pretty incredible things. This is a song that helps me feel what I know to be true. You know who you are: I hope it reminds you of how powerful and worthy you are, and may you scare the hell out of anyone who tries to take that from you."

Previous to today’s single Calliope Musicals shared “Cosmic Poison Arrow” and "That's Why We Dance."

Calliope Musicals have a well-deserved reputation for putting on the kind of live show you don't want to leave -- it’s always a party when they play. NPR’s Robin Hilton cited their recent SXSW show as the best he saw that day and Boston Herald recently noted that they “hark back to the creative side of ’80s new wave, with infectious dance rhythms and pop hooks. Onstage, they’re something else again, with props, costumes and an alien that appears between songs." The band are excited to announce the first set up tour dates in support of Color/Sweat. The dates kick off June 14 with a record release in-store atWaterloo in Austin followed by a show at Austin’s Radio Coffee + Beer the following night, June 15. Calliope Musicals will also stop in at Piano's in New York City on July 15. All dates are listed below.

Austin’s reputation as a haven for misfits, oddballs and outlaws of all stripes actually delivers when it comes to Calliope Musicals. Since their inception they have aimed to give the middle finger to that music scene’s cult of masculinity by way of flourishing a far wider spectrum of human color. Said by the Austin Chronicle to stick out like a “sore thumb” on the city’s music scene, Calliope Musicals stands up for Austin as a frontier town for outlaws of all stripes.

Color/Sweat is the follow up to 2016’s Time Owes You Nothing of which USA Today noted they, “make infectious pop music that exists somewhere on the wavelength between folk and psychedelia.” While not a concept album, the new LP is largely one of empowerment and autonomy in a social climate that is actively working against those things.

The album was recorded at the Bubble in Austin, Texas with Frenchie Smith.

The joyous, quixotic defiance of Color/Sweat is a party for the end of this world and a journey to the next one. When asked to sum up the spirit of Calliope, Carrie herself put it: “We came from space. We’re all going to die.” That’s why we dance.
