Today, British artist, musician and DJ Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) releases her highly anticipated new EP, “BURN”. The new 4-track EP, a collaborative project boasting some of the finest female/femme talent in the production world, sees Little Boots shifting even closer to the dance-floor, claiming a darker, more atmospheric territory while retaining her signature pop sensibilities. The result is a non-stop dance party, an electrifying fusion of forward thinking dance production layered over Victoria’s trademark melodies and introspective lyrics. “Burn” was co-produced by Victoria in collaboration with Joyce Muniz (“Shadows”), Lauren Flax(“Picture”), Planningtorock (“Eros”) and Cora Novoa (“River”) and was mixed by Marta Salogni, fresh from her work on the latest Bjork album. Little Boots recently revealed more details on the EP with PAPER Magazine [read HERE].
On the progression of her sound, Victoria explains: “Creating a project focused on female talent is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and the process was incredibly inspiring. The producers involved hail from more underground backgrounds sonically and have very different approaches, but what tied everything together was their open mindedness and embrace of pop hooks and melodies. Since relocating to Los Angeles I’ve been DJing a lot and the shift in sound very much reflects this. In many ways this EP really feels like a rebirth for me. Conceptually, I’ve been interested in the themes of desire, lust and lack, so the title “Burn” can be interpreted in many ways, from the burn of desire, to the burn of pain; you cannot have one without the other.”
Earlier this week, Little Boots premiered the video for “Picture” exclusively on Billboard. Directed byMarion Bergin, “Picture” is the second of a series of four titillating visuals, each one paired with a song from the EP. The video for “Shadows” premiered last month on NYLON. Speaking about “Picture,” Victoria explains, “‘It is about that moment when you think you’ve moved on from someone, then some algorithm or friend of friend you follow brings up a photo that can instantly drag you back in a heartbeat. It explores our relationship between technology and our powerlessness over the effect it can have on our emotions and mood. I collaborated with Lauren Flax on the track and love the way she built the beat, we sent instrumental parts back and forwards adding piano and strings until the track swells into a really lush hybrid of electronics and organics, all driven by a pulsing house beat and topped off with pop melodies.”
To celebrate the release of the new EP, Little Boots has announced some upcoming DJ sets including an EP Launch Party at The Moth Club in London on April 27th (TICKETS) and April 28th at Wigwam in Dublin (TICKETS). In addition, Victoria will playing a special live EP release show in Los Angeles on May 12th at El Cid (TICKETS). She is also confirmed to appear live at Moogfest in Durham, NC (TICKETS) in May.
