Brazilian Girls will release their long awaited and highly anticipated new album Let’s Make Love next Friday, April 13 on Six Degrees Records. It’s the band’s fourth album and first since 2008’s Grammy-nominated New York City. Brazilian Girls is also set to head out on tour in May in support of the album, including shows in New York and Los Angeles. See dates below & tix here.

Today, NPR Music premiered album track “Karaköy,” a track inspired by the band’s time in the Istanbul neighborhood while recording. Hear “Karaköy” HERE and via NPR Music who notes, “’Karaköy’ stands out for its timelessness and simplicity. It's a walk-skip along the ancient streets of its namesake neighborhood in Istanbul, with Sabina Sciubba's rich, gymnastic and apparently effortless voice left, right and center stage.”

Frontwoman Sabina Sciubba notes, “We had the chance to perform in Istanbul at Nublu. During our stay, we went to the studio and recorded for our new record. Anyone who's been to Istanbul will agree that this city truly reflects the meeting of Orient and Occident. The East and West meet here, mingle but don't mix.” She adds, “The song expresses longing for something etheric and sensual, something deeply rooted in one's DNA that can't be expressed in sentences, only in names, in archaic terms, in touches and looks.”

Formed in 2003, the group was born after the four members crossed paths at East Village club Nublu where they began playing the weekly, embracing a free-form ethos that helped shape their kaleidoscopic sound. Fast earning attention for their euphoric live show, Brazilian Girls released their self-titled debut in 2005 and sophomore album Talk to La Bomb in 2006. Let’s Make Lovefollows 2008’s Grammy-nominated New York City and came to life over the course of several years since the four band members are now scattered throughout the U.S. and Europe. They assembled when possible to write and record, piggybacking those sessions onto gigs in Istanbul and Madrid, Paris and New York.

Let’s Make Love was produced by longtime collaborator Frederik Rubens and was closely informed by the more commanding vocal delivery that frontwoman Sabina Sciubba brought to the album. The band also brings a woozy romanticism to many tracks and, on some songs, the album slips into a defiant mood suited to the album’s punk-inspired sensibilities.
