"Made up of old souls in photogenic forms, this teenage psychedelic rock trio mixes metal-influenced guitar squall with Arctic New Wave vocals..." - New York Times

"Four minutes of dark psychedelic sludge and sunny melody from the rising New York band, sort of like Black Sabbath covering the Kinks." - Rolling Stone
"...this band is full of surprises and shifts. There's an exhilarating feeling seeing this band live; I got the impression that they even surprised each other during the performance." - NPR's All Songs Considered
"...a fine-tuned ear for faded garage and psych sounds: melodic riffs, little shrieks, noisy smears of feedback sludge." -The FADER
"The teenage rock scene has gotten a lot grungier and a bit more glam these days thanks to Brooklyn trio Sunflower Bean." - NYMag.com

Sunflower Bean announce the release of their debut album Human Ceremony, out on February 5th, 2016via Fat Possum Records. An utterly brilliant full-length effort from the Brooklyn-based trio, Human Ceremony is a potent, heady mix of swirling indie pop, urgent, fuzzed-out guitar bliss, and girl/boy sugar-spun vocal melodies that delivers a modern-day spin on classic rock & roll.  PRESS HERE to listen to the driving first single, "Wall Watcher," which premiered on Huw Stephen's BBC Radio 1 show last night and is streaming via The FADER now. PRESS HERE to pre-order Human Ceremony on CD or vinyl now, and HERE on iTunes tomorrow.
Sunflower Bean - who are known for their exhilarating live shows - will return to SXSW in 2016 and have announced a hometown New York City show celebrating the release of Human Ceremony at Bowery Ballroom on February 25th. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, November 13th at 12 PM. The band are touring throughout Europe and the UK later this month with The Vaccines and Palma Violets as well. See below for all tour dates.
Sunflower Bean got their start in the DIY New York scene, but the band quickly began to accelerate into one of the foremost up-and-coming bands nationally and overseas after an impressive run at CMJ 2014 which earned them the title of one of NPR Music's Top 10 Discoveries at the festival.  Following the independent release of their singular EP earlier this year, and a 7-inch vinyl this Summer via Fat PossumSunflower Beanplayed over 100 shows in one year between the U.S. and Europe, opening for the likes of DIIV, Best Coast, and Wolf Alice, and delivering show-stopping sets at SXSW 2015 and UK's Great Escape festival. With early praise from Rolling Stone, The FADER, New York Magazine, Nylon, Rookie, Vogue, NME, The Guardian, and more, Human Ceremony's release early next year cements the fact that Sunflower Bean has arrived.
Drawing inspiration from a vast pool of influences such as Black Sabbath and The CureSunflower Beanrefine their sound and take it to the next level on Human Ceremony.  It is a crystalline, bright, sparkling record, tipping its cap to the likes of The Vaselines, The Velvet Underground, The Feelies, and more, loaded with an innate artfulness that belies the band's young age: all three members are under 21. Written in drummer Jacob Faber's basement in Long Island - where the band got its start back in high school - and recorded in Brooklyn with producer Matt Molnar (Friends), Human Ceremony's 11 tracks came together in just seven days. Having leapt out of the gate as a formidable live band, Sunflower Bean's incomparable stage energy settles perfectly into the grooves of its finely crafted debut album.  From the cascading guitar riffs in album opener "Human Ceremony," to the surging "Come On," to Cumming's gliding, sky-high harmonies on "Easier Said" and more, on Human CeremonySunflower Bean's spell is cast. The result is one of the best debuts you will hear in 2016.
Sunflower Bean are: Jacob Faber [drums], Julia Cumming [vocals/bass], and Nick Kivlen[vocals/guitars].
