Father John Misty has premiered a new video for “I’m Writing A Novel,” the 5th video from his critically acclaimed 2012 album Fear Fun.  The new visual, directed by Noel Paul (“Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings”; Bat For Lashes, Austra) melds documentary-style and performance footage filmed while on the road during his mammoth tour in support of the album (see Pitchfork news story September 11th).

Father John Misty will close out 2013 with a headlining solo variety tour in support of Fear Fun this fall, which begins on October 3rd in San Francisco, CA at Slims and ends on November 2nd in Los Angeles, CA at the Wiltern.  The tour will feature support from comedian Kate Berlant. “Composed with luminous synths and melodic vocal lines, the U.K. trio's latest album is an unabashed venture into warped pop music. – NPR Music

“highly emotive, harmonically sound trip through digitized music that moves to a genuine human heartbeat” - SPIN

“achingly pretty warmth” - FADER

Darkstar are pleased to share the video for their most recent single “A Day’s Pay For A Day’s Work” off of News From Nowhere, released earlier this year.

Filmed in a community center in South London, the video captures the trio taking part in numerous trust-building exercises and activities, ranging from falling backwards into the arms of others to taking part in a conga drum ensemble. Directed by London-based writer/director Lucy Luscombe (http://lucyluscombe.com), it’s a beautifully apt visual accompaniment to a stirring single that candidly touches on the subjects of confidence, self-esteem and relationships.

The band are also set to announce a series of remix EPs, that sees several News From Nowhere stand out tracks reworked by the likes of Zomby, Motor City Drum Ensemble, the band themselves and more. Expanded details to come soon!

Ólafur Arnalds Returns to the US for Fall Tour

Ólafur Arnalds Returns to the US for Fall Tour

F
or Now I Am Winter LP Available Now

"One of the year's finest new albums." - Rolling Stone

"If you crave morose, impressive beauty, it's here." - Pitchfork

"...stunning, perfect music."-  Bob Boilen, NPR All Songs Considered

Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds will return to the US for a fall tour in support of his latest release, For Now I Am Winter, available now on Mercury Classics. The album, featuring arrangements from Nico Muhly and vocals from Arnór Dan, has spurred performances ranging from one of NPR's "Top 15 Essential Moments" at SXSW (watch at Baeble) to his unforgettable performance at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC this past spring bolstered by a full 28 piece orchestra (watch at NPR), followed by a summer run of tour dates including an intimate performance at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles.

Arnalds continues to steadily build a reputation as one of the world's most bright and able young composers, currently scoring the music for BBC's critically acclaimed #1 hit drama Broadchurch, which debuted in the US this past August on BBC America. The New York Times aptly wrote in the review of their program, "What Broadchurch has to offer is mood: a tasty icing of gloom and foreboding that leans heavily on the music of Ólafur Arnalds."  More recent television exposure for Arnalds includes an installment of The Colbert Report, as well as his song 'Old Skin' being featured on the hit TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance' in July, causing For Now I Am Winter to return to significant standing on the US iTunes Classical Chart. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard's Classical Traditional Chart upon its release in the spring to great praise and critical accolades, including SPIN, who gave it a 7/10 saying, "Winter is easily his most straightforwardly accessible and mainstream-leaning effort to date. Which is impressive," FILTER, who added that the album, "demonstrates several key growths in Arnalds' development as a songwriter," and Interview Magazine, who said, "at 26, Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds has already accomplished more than many musicians do in a lifetime."

Since the release of his 2007 debut, Eulogy for Evolution, the 26-year-old, has put his name to a variety of projects and collaborations ranging from Emma Watson to Peter Broderick to Nils Frahm. Since 2009 he has scored films and TV shows including Another Happy Day, the feature film Gimme Shelter (Starring Vanessa Hudgens), as well as having tracks featured on the soundtracks to Hollywood hits The Hunger Games and Looper. Purveying a neo-classical style with an array of influences which range from electronica to minimalism, Arnalds is an artist who draws from a variety of sources whilst maintaining his own unique sound.

ATLANTA, GA (September 11th, 2013) - Seminal punk rockers and VICE Records artist the Black Lips are hitting the road this fall for a set of select dates which will include a performance as well as a special screening of their new rock and roll feature length movie Kids Like You & Me that shows the punk rockers playing where few western bands have gone before, deep into the Middle East. The band was on a humanitarian rock and roll mission to bridge cultural divides and smash stereotypes with the universal sound of punk rock. The film highlights the flower punk quartet's life changing journey through the land of the pyramids for a documentary that is both heart-wrenching and soul-churning in the midst of pure cultural chaos. Be sure to come check out a screening followed by a Black Lips wild live performance (full dates below).

Kids Like You & Me, directed by Bill Cody, documents a journey through one of the most exciting regions in the world including three groundbreaking stops in Egypt. (The last known American rock band to play Egypt being The Grateful Dead in 1978!) Get on the bus with Black Lips and their good friends, Lebanese indie rockers, Lazzy Lung. See the people of the Middle East the way they really are. Shopkeepers and restaurant owners. Skaters, graffiti artists and musicians. Revolutionaries and dreamers. Kids like you and me. Unknown Mortal Orchestra announces new EP

UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES ACOUSTIC EP

SHARES TRACK

US TOUR LAUNCHING SOON
On the heels of a year that has seen the release of their new LP II, non-stop touring and an appearance on late-night TV, Unknown Mortal Orchestra is back today to announce Blue Record. This will be released digitally as an Expanded Version of II on blue vinyl. Some copies of the vinyl will be available ahead of release on the upcoming US tour. Speaking on the EP, Ruban said:

"I only started playing the acoustic guitar last year. I'd always preferred the idea that the guitar converts a sound into voltage and then becomes really loud. I thought the acoustic guitar was a little bit too twee for me or something. But after being offered some opportunities to play various acoustic sessions to promote the new record, in situations where it wasn't possible to record the whole band, I decided to treat it like a challenge to try and play acoustic and not have it be lame. After all I was really into Arthur Lee's ability with an acoustic and started wondering if I could make it sound convincing. Anyway, after being somewhat forced to develop some skill on the acoustic through these various radio sessions and things like that I decided to record some songs acoustically and release them since people seemed to be liking the way I was doing it. Everything was recorded straight to tape in my basement with a one mic set up."

"After recording three songs from II I started thinking about doing some other songs that I like. I thought that I'd do an old song I'd always liked even when I was a kid and a new song that I've been listening to a lot recently. The old song is 'Puttin It Down' by Beck. It's on the album Stereopathic Soulmanure and I always loved the lyrics. So funny and so sad. To me this song is super real. The new song is 'Swing Lo Magellan' from the album of the same name by Dirty Projectors. I like how this band who kind of specialize in melting brains leaned on pure melody on that album. The more I listened to it the more I realized how strong this melody was. I found myself listening to it a lot. It reminds me of Velvet Underground or Transformer era Lou Reed for some reason. When I saw them play last they opened with this song and I hadn't heard that album yet and was like 'wait what's that one?'"

Blue Record will be released on October 29th by Jagjaguwar. See below for all EP details (aside from the cover art, which features Janet Farrar, above), the cover of Dirty Projectors' 'Swing Lo Magellan' and all of the band's upcoming tour dates.
