To celebrate the release of Thom Yorke’s new video for “Last I Heard (…He Was Circling The Drain)”from his current album ANIMA (released June 27 on XL Recordings), ANIMA Technologies opened its L.A. offices with a three-day immersive first look event.  The 5-minute short film, made at the Brooklyn-based experimental studio Art Camp, is set in a dream world inspired by fragments of Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood’s imagination and made up of over 3000 hand-illustrated frames. The first clips of the film were shown throughout the ANIMA Technologies’ offices, on desktop monitors as well as a custom-constructed TV wall. Sound experience was provided by Sonos.

The installation, which coincided with Thom, Nigel Godrich & Tarik Barri a/k/a Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’ live performances at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre October 29 and 30, has ended as of 5pm PST October 30 with the world premiere of the video HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I03xFqbxUp8

Art Camp commented on their process interpreting the latest track from Thom’s current album ANIMA:

“Our first and last goal was to serve the feelings of the song and the record. Thom shared a list of visions with us, disconnected images from his dreams, and we expanded on it with visions from everyone who joined the video team, over a dozen of us.  At its core, our intention was to communicate the experience of feeling completely on your own, surrounded by people you see yourself in but don’t understand, who have lost their minds to the city and can’t see that you need their help. 

The process for making this animation was extremely iterative and cyclical, and started from every direction at once. We experimented with clay sculpture and one-cent 3D horses, crowd simulations and charcoal dust, linear storytelling and abstract expression. We made the entire video and threw it away, made it again, threw it away, dozens of times. This of course was stressful but also beautiful.

Our goal is to create work that is surprising to ourselves, that we don’t understand how it happened. A lot of that has to do with trusting in the collaborative process– finding a wavelength where everyone feels free to go crazy in their own way, and push for what they most believe in. Our values are constantly being tested and rewritten in pursuit of creating a community where people really do feel loose and free and safe.  When it works the best, you end up with work that speaks in everyone’s voices and one voice.”

Having toured the albums from Hooky's previous bands for over eight years with multiple tours of the United States and Canada, Peter Hook & The Light have now reached the late Eighties and early Nineties albums of New Order, "Technique" and "Republic" which they will come to perform across fifteen stateside dates in October and November 2019.

Both of the Factory Records albums saw New Order make significant breakthroughs across at Atlantic and in many ways the late Eighties marked a high point with the band as with the  support of Quincy Jones’ Q-West label they scored numbers Billboard chart dance hits with “Technique’s” acid house influence before “Republic” was to become their best ever selling album in the US.

Having just played the first “Technique”/ “Republic” shows in the UK and South America, these have been hailed as some of the strongest the band have performed with the Sunday Mail giving it 5 stars and calling it as “the soundtrack to their lives. An epic set of timeless classics, where every single intro gets a roar of applause like it’s the last song of the night.”

The Light have just completed a widely acclaimed world tour performing both "Substance" albums of Joy Division and New Order which saw them visit North and South America. Europe, Australia and New Zealand but these "Technique" and "Republic" concerts mark the band moving forward through the catalogue once more.

Robyn Hitchcock has unveiled a striking companion video for his recently released single, “Sunday Never Comes.” The clip – directed by award-winning Australian filmmaker Jeremy Dylan (Jim Lauderdale: The King of Broken Hearts) – is streaming now at Hitchcock’s official YouTube channel HERE. WATCH “SUNDAY NEVER COMES” Commissioned for the soundtrack of the 2018 romantic comedy, Juliet, Naked, directed by Jesse Peretz from the novel by Nick Hornby, “Sunday Never Comes” was recorded in Nashville late last year, with Hitchcock backed by The Nashville Fabs, his stellar Music City ensemble that includes guitarist Buddy Hughen (Tristen), bassist Pat Sansone (Wilco, The Autumn Defense), and drummer Ryan Brewer. “Sunday Never Comes” is available now as a limited edition pink vinyl 7-inch from Hitchcock’s own Tiny Ghost Records, exclusively via his official webstore HERE. The double A-sided single is joined by an additional new track, “Take Off Your Bandages,” described by its creator as “a psychedelic manifesto for the current era, inspired by the activism of the students at Stoneman Douglas High School.” All 7-inch orders will be joined by an official download link, as well as alternative versions of "Sunday Never Comes (Acoustic)” and "Take Off Your Bandages (Extended).” First released last year in its initial demo form, “Sunday Never Comes” is performed in Juliet, Naked by its star, Ethan Hawke, of which Hitchcock notes, “Occasionally I hear people singing my songs into the public ear: Suzanne Vega and The Grateful Dead covering ‘Chinese Bones’ was epic, as was REM’s take on ‘Arms Of Love.’ In Juliet, Naked, Ethan Hawke performs several versions of ‘Sunday Never Comes’ and he caught the feel just right. The movie is largely set in a quaint, dismal English seaside town, where the American protagonist finds himself wedged in the dissolving relationship between an obsessive fan and that fan’s unobssessive wife. As a veteran of dismal English seaside towns (Morrissey – down boy!) who now lives in Nashville, I can relate to this scenario in reverse. It’s a touching and perceptive story for all us music casualties, an odd hybrid of Brit and US culture – united as we both are by Rock Culture above all.

“As Ethan Hawke sings the song in the film, I thought I should make my own version available. The video was shot in Sydney, directed by Jeremy Dylan (who filmed my last two promotional clips) and features me as an artist marooned in an abandoned apartment, wistfully peering at footage of my partner, Emma, as she vamps soulfully through Berlin. Were we ever together? At one point I start drawing her. The theme is distance, separation, and a resolution that never comes to pass....” As if that weren’t enough, Hitchcock recently teamed with fellow English pop legend Andy Partridge of XTC for the collaborative EP, PLANET ENGLAND, available via Ape House Records HERE. “The EP will send devotees into paroxysms of joy,” wrote PROG Magazine. “Hitchcock cites the pair’s love of Barrett, Beefheart, and the Beatles as unifying factors but psych-era Fabs loom largest…PLANET ENGLAND could’ve been recorded anytime over the last 53 years; hopefully the duo’ll soon ride again.” Meanwhile, Hitchcock will continue his seemingly eternal live schedule with a wide-ranging array of upcoming dates.
