Love’s 1974 Studio Album Reel To Real Out Today
Love’s 1974 Studio Album Reel To Real
Released Digitally & on CD
For First Time Ever Today
Vinyl Copies of the Record Available on
February 19 via High Moon Records
“Rich in soulful, unconventional details, masterful singing, crunchy-guitar rock, straight-up Stax-grounded soul, eccentric psychedelia and contemporary funk.” – David Fricke, Rolling Stone
“Lee was perfectly at ease stretching the boundaries of his music to encompass the sounds of the world at large.” – NPR Music
Reel To Real captures Arthur Lee and Love at the peak of their rock, funk, and soul powers. Originally recorded and released in 1974 on RSO Records, this beautifully packaged, deluxe reissue features re-mastered audio from the original tapes, a lavish, full-color book with a trove of candid, unpublished photos, and an illuminating essay by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke. Out today, November 27, the album is available digitally and on physical CD via High Moon Records.
What Arthur Lee began on Love’s Black Beauty (released by High Moon Records to wide acclaim in 2013), he brought to fruition on Reel To Real. Armed with a major label budget, and a powerful, intuitive band, he dug deep into the blues, soul, and rock grooves that first inspired him, reaching out to a new audience with his fierce and forward-thinking personal vision.
The album features Arthur’s beloved Black Beauty band: drummer Joe Blocker, guitarist Melvan Whittington, and bassists Sherwood Akuna and Robert Rozelle — who Lee referred to as “cats who can play funky and rock" — augmented by guitar-ace John Sterling and cameo appearances by legendary guitarists Harvey Mandel and “Buzzy” Feiten. To a palette of stinging guitars, explosive brass (arranged by Arthur Lee), deep funk bass and clavinet, splashes of spacey synthesizer, and dream-team female backing vocals, Arthur Lee brought his funkiest and most soulful collection of songs, channeling the most visceral vocal performances he ever committed to tape.
High Moon Records has unearthed 11 revelatory, previously-unreleased tracks from the original sessions, including alternate takes and mixes, live-in-studio rehearsals, and 4 newly-discovered Arthur Lee originals: “Do It Yourself,” “I Gotta Remember,” “Somebody,” and “You Gotta Feel It.” These songs (three fully-produced rockers, and a spare, jaunty, Imagine-era John Lennon, by-way-of Sly Stone studio sketch) were previously unknown to all but their original participants, and present a major addition to Arthur Lee’s catalog.
This ultra-rare bonus material fills out the picture of a fearless, agile and very funky ensemble, led by a masterful singer-songwriter at his feral, exultant best.

PINS Premiere 'Got It Bad' Video On Wonderland || Announce SXSW Appearance
Announce SXSW Appearance
Wild Nights LP Out Now On Bella Union
"The Manchester, England-reared all-female quartet Pins may be the talk of the indie scene - and look magazine-ready, to boot - but their ascent has been as uncontrived as their fuzzed-out, slightly melancholy sound."-The New York Times
"Citing '90s groups like My Bloody Valentine and Jesus and Mary Chain as influences, the band takes a jangly, straight-ahead approach to alternative rock on "Young Girls" --NPR
" They're just a very good rock band making very good rock music, taking a familiar stew of influences and just nailing the fuck out of them." --Stereogum
"Sonically it's indie-pop edged out with a feeling of questioning melancholy, and just a smidgen of menace, and from the second they hit the screen you wanna be part of their gang"--NOISEY
"Young Girls," a sunny-day indie shuffler that flows perfectly in time for the gentle winds of spring" --FADER
The likes of Haim should take note of how it's done"-Under The Radar (8/10)
Still on the heels of their successful second album Wild Nights, Manchester five-piece PINS have announced the release of a free download single 'Got It Bad', which is available now on the Bella UnionSoundcloud Page. Additionally, they have debuted the video for the track via Wonderland. With this video, PINS stick to their strengths, invoking feelings of a hazy summer night complete with sparklers, cigarettes and a youthful sense of adventure. It was shot in the Northern Quarter and Ancoats districts of the band's hometown by Sarah Jenny Johnson. "The song is wonderfully melancholic but its also, essentially, a love song so I wanted this to reflect in the way it was shot," says the director. "Dipping in and out of focus constantly, blurry lights, handheld camera - almost "drunk" in a way. Drunk in love."
'Got It Bad' is a standout track on Wild Nights. A love song, but in PINS own style, it is a slow-paced, exposed and honest track that showcases lead singer Faith Vern's sultry vocals and the tight musicianship of the band.
Faith says; "This is the song where when we were recording, I said to Dave (Catching) 'can we make it more Velvet Underground?' He said 'sure thing' and that's just what we did. Got It Bad is myfavourite song to play live, it's the only song I have chance to breath and take it all in"
This year has seen a packed touring schedule for the band supporting the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Drengeand Wire, as well as celebrated shows with Best Coast, Gang Of Four and Stealing Sheep.
They now have announced a February UK and European headline tour along with their inclusion on SXSW's 2016 official lineup.
PINS earlier this year released their second album Wild Nights, receiving great acclaim across media in the UK and US. The album was recorded in Joshua Tree at Rancho De La Luna with Dave Catching (QOTSA, Eagles of Death Metal) and Hayden Scott, and mixed in New York with Ben Baptie at Atomic Sound NYC (Mark Ronson).
This year has seen a packed out touring schedule for the band. Along with performing their own sold out headline shows, they have supported the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Drenge and Best Coast and will be supporting Mythopeoia III: Legs later this month, aswell as performing at Bilbao's Bilboloop Festival. Already announced for next year's SXSW festival, PINS have also confirmed a February UK and European headline tour. Full live dates below.

"Stars on the Rise in 2015" - Entertainment Weekly
"...the band have proven itself big time." - Billboard
"['Lick My Wounds'] is at once grand and intimate, like all the best pop." - Pitchfork

"Paris electro-pop duo the Dø tamper with upbeat synths and catchy, irresistible choruses...all-around delightful." - Stereogum
Today Franco-Finnish duo The Dø - a.k.a. Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy - share a new music video for "Trustful Hands." Filmed during the band's first tour in Japan earlier this year, the music video for "Trustful Hands" beautifully complements the hypnotic, electro-pop tune full of luxurious synths and draws inspiration from a culture that has long fascinated The Dø. This music video - following the band at first dancing through the packed streets of Tokyo, then on-stage in front of a packed crowd - is the band's homage to the country, with a tip of the cap to their love of karaoke. PRESS HERE to watch "Trustful Hands" now viaStereogum.
"This video for 'Trustful Hands' is our postcard from Tokyo," says Olivia Merilahti. "We wanted images that would be faithful to our life on tour. Chaos is our second home, but the road is our main address, for a few more months ahead!"
The Dø's genius third album Shake Shook Shaken was released earlier this year, has been certified gold in France and has garnered massive international praise. This has resulted in an MTV European Music Awards nomination for Best French Band, "Best Rock Album of the Year" at the French GRAMMYs (Les Victoires de la Musique), and the title of Best Alternative Album on iTunes. The Complete Masters" of the classic album by Coltrane's classic

Listen to Track Premiers at Pitchfork and Wall Street Journal
On December 9th, 1964, John Coltrane and his classic quartet (Elvin Jones, Jimmy Garrisonand McCoy Tyner) went into the legendary Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey and recorded A Love Supreme--the four-part suite that has influenced musicians and reached generations of fans far beyond the jazz world. Far less known is the fact that Coltrane, his classic quartet and two additional musicians--the legendary saxophonist Archie Shepp and second bassist, Dr. Art Davis--returned to the studio the next day to cut the opening part of the suite again. Until now, the complete picture of what happened on those two days, including all takes, overdubs, and even studio chatter, has been unavailable.
That will change on November 20th when Verve Music Group proudly releases A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of this seminal recording. It will include this alternate version, taken from reels from the personal collection of John Coltrane and originally recorded in incredible sonic detail by Rudy Van Gelder, along with revised notes and detailed information on these amazing lost sessions. This release will kick off a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Verve label, which will include myriad catalog releases, digital exclusives and box sets through the end of 2016. (Verve includes the catalogs of legendary imprints like Impulse!, Decca, MGM, Blue Thumb and many more.)
With the availability of long-lost session reels, A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters brings together all existing recordings and written outlines for the first time to paint the most comprehensive and accurate picture of the A Love Supreme story. It reveals how Coltrane's masterpiece came together, from its initial conception as a nine-piece performance--it turns out the original plan was for a nine-piece band, including three Latin percussionists--to how it changed and developed in the studio. While the 2002 edition of A Love Supreme did include some of the music recorded at the second session, The Complete Masters is the first to feature all six takes of "Acknowledgement," the opening section of the suite, in their entirety, providing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how Coltrane would allow music to mature in the studio. The box also presents takes one and two of the track "Acknowledgement" from the sextet sessions in stereo for the first time.
A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters will be available in two formats: a 2-CD set, including the original best-selling album, along with unreleased mono "reference" versions of two tracks, owned by Coltrane himself, and seven unreleased performances from the two sessions. A 32-page booklet features an extensive essay by Ashley Kahn, noted producer, instructor and author of A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album, rare photographs from the sessions and all of Coltrane's surviving musical sketches and written elements for the groundbreaking, four-part suite, including the words that would become the poem, "A Love Supreme."
A 3-CD "Super Deluxe Edition" of A Love Supreme: The Complete Masters adds what is currently the only documented live recording of the album, a spirited, impromptu performance from the Festival Mondial du Jazz Antibes in July 1965, which had been previously available on a 2002 edition of the album. This 3-CD set is presented in a larger format that includes additional information about the live material and a personal introduction by Carlos Santana.
