After packing cinemas and collecting rave reviews around the world, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is coming to home video on May 20th.
Hailed as "excellent" by Uncut, "fascinating" by The Arts Desk, and "funny, fast-moving and gloriously chaotic" by The Hollywood Reporter, the film was directed/produced by Wes Orshoski, and is the first fully authorized documentary on punk pioneers The Damned.
Ireland's Hot Press raves: "Orshoski came onto our radar with the acclaimed Lemmy documentary in 2011 [which he co-directed/produced] and has once again created a tour de force, presenting an entertaining and searingly honest depiction of the grievously overlooked punk legends."
Filmed around the globe over three years, and world-premiered at SXSW 2015, THE DAMNED: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead tells the story of the third prong in the holy trinity of U.K. punk. In advance of both the Sex Pistols and the Clash, The Damned was the first U.K. punk band to release a single (1976's immortal "New Rose"), the first to release an album ('77's frenetic Damned Damned Damned), and the first to tour America (planting their flag at CBGB in April 1977). Now in their 39th year, The Damned are the only band from London's 1976 Punk Rock Big Bang still touring the world today.
In addition to Damned founders Captain Sensible, Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies and Brian James, the film includes appearances by such one-time bandmates as The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, as well as such rock and/or punk luminaries as Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Steve Diggle (Buzzcocks), JJ Burnel (The Stranglers), Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Billy Idol, Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/OFF!), Dexter Holland (The Offspring), Jack Grisham (T.S.O.L.), and more.
Taking its name from the title-track of the Damned's 1979 album, Machine Gun Etiquette, the film charts the band's unique history, bitter infighting and legendary bad behavior (drummer Scabies is blamed for creating punk's "gobbing," or spitting, phenomenon); it takes viewers into the toilets once scrubbed by Captain Sensible and viewers follow the Damned on their world-wide 35th anniversary tour in 2011 -- with estranged band founders Scabies and James seen on screen answering that trek with a snarling celebration of their own. In a bizarre twist of fate, other former members find themselves being treated for the same form of cancer by the same doctor in the same Welsh cancer ward; elsewhere, the band's founding members are seen grappling with their legacy, and the fallout from missed and/or bungled business decisions that have kept them painfully working class for most of the past four decades.
The Arts Desk: "Where many music documentaries have a similar dynamic arc-rise, fall, rise again-Don't You Wish That We Were Dead is a fascinating, rambling saga that emanates a rich, sometimes morose, sense of what it's really like to have a whole life defined by the oh-so-brief explosion that was punk rock."
In the bonus features, Captain Sensible takes viewers on a tour of Croydon, the south London town that gave rise to the Damned, and he busks on the streets of Hollywood with actor/musician/comedian Fred Armisen, a huge Damned fan. Elsewhere, the full story of the band's involvement and eventual ousting from the Sex Pistols' fabled Anarchy in the U.K. tour of 1976 is told in detail for the first time.
In the film, The Damned is credited with helping to ignite the punk scene in America. In 1977, the Damned were the first of the U.K. punks to play in both New York (at CBGB) and Los Angeles (at the Starwood).
In 2010, The Huffington Post's Binky Phillips recalled the band's U.S. debut at CBGB in early April 1977: "I was down at CBGB with a chip on my shoulder. My town was Punk Ground Zero.... I was, in fact, without a struggle, reduced to fan boy within 30 seconds. It was as if the entire evening proceeding them had been in black and white and suddenly we were thrust into Technicolor Oz."
The Damned kick off a West Coast tour in April, which includes two appearances at Coachella (April 16 & 23), as well as stops in San Francisco (April 14, Great American Music Hall); Solana Beach, CA (April 19, Belly Up); Pomona, CA (April 20, The Glass House); and Los Angeles (April 21, The Roxy).
The band officially kicks off its 40th anniversary tour on May 20 with a sold-out gig at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

OLGA BELL - TEMPO LP
RELEASED 27TH MAY [ONE LITTLE INDIAN]
FIRST SINGLE "RANDOMNESS" AVAILABLE NOW
US TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

"Grand compositional ambitions and a dynamic voice…the arty, adventurous edge of pop" - The New York Times
"Mesmerizing, eventful, and strange" - Pitchfork
"…some of the most unfettered and joyful music that contemporary music has to offer." - NOWNESS
"Magical" - Noisey
One Little Indian is set to release Olga Bell's new album Tempo on 27th May. Lead single "Randomness" recently received "Best New Track" at Pitchfork after it was premiered by Dummy, who described the house-influenced track as "the fuel of self-manifestation." The Minister Akins-directed video premiered yesterday on i-D, who says of the track, "if you're anything like us, you've probably had [it] stuck in your head since it surfaced earlier this month." The video is available to watch and share here (full video credits at link). The track is available for instant download with album pre-order.
Written, produced and performed by Bell, Tempo is her third LP—following 2014's Krai and 2011's Diamonite—and features contributions from vocalist Sara Lucas and longtime collaborators Jason Nazary and Gunnar Olsen. See below for track list and a selection of live dates, with more to be announced.
"This record is first for the body, then for the mind," says Bell, who began writing the album immediately after seeing the film Paris Is Burning. "I started every song by thinking about tempo specifically, listening to the metronome alone, feeling its relation to my body, to the pace of the day, the weather, the light. On fast days I listened to club music, most of it at least twenty years old, and on slow days I turned to early West Coast hip-hop and Portishead because of how physically charged and compelling these records feel despite their low BPM."
The highly anticipated LP follows the October release of Incitation, a five-track EP described by NOWNESS as "a perfect platform for Bell's remarkable voice, mirroring the unflinching, self-analyzing lyrics." Pitchfork went on to praise Bell's "muscular voice" and "knack for arrangements that are simultaneously refined and overwhelming," while The New York Times lauded her "forthright, supple melodies to hold everything together, and a voice—creamy, vibrant, sensual—that makes all her conundrums startlingly immediate."
Born in Moscow and raised in Alaska, Bell is a composer, producer and performer based in Brooklyn. A prodigious classical pianist as a child and teenager, Bell graduated from Boston's New England Conservatory before moving to New York City to pursue electronic composition and songwriting. In 2011 she received a Jerome Fund Grant from the American Composers Forum to aid in the completion of her first large-scale composition, Krai, which was released as an album in 2014 after a sold-out premiere at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The New York Times describedKrai as "at once a folkloric study of her homeland and a contemporary exercise in electronic production." Bell continues to perform Krai, most recently premiering a new arrangement with the Grammy-nominated string orchestra A Far Cry at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Following 2015's Fated LP, Nosaj Thing is back today to announce a new EP set for release on April 8th. NO REALITY, which also shares a name with his new audio-visual tour with esteemed visual artist (and frequent collaborator) Daito Manabe, is a 5-track offering to be released by Innovative Leisure. Check out NO REALITY cut "N R 2" above now.
Nosaj Thing will showcase NO REALITY material on his forthcoming performances with Daito Manabe, a run that is bookended by Coachella appearances with shows in Brooklyn, San Francisco and Los Angeles in between. The shows will feature technology applications drawn and evolved from their their previous collaborations together on Nosaj Thing's "Eclipse/Blue" and "Cold Stares" music videos, which includes Augmented Reality, 3D scanning and motion capture.
Daito has become well-known in the music space for his work with artists like Bjork, Squarepusher, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Perfume, with which he premiered some of these same techniques during their SXSW performance in 2015. In discussing their latest video, Wired UK points out the effectiveness of Daito's focus on switching between worlds. "The [result] is both jarring and seamless, shifting between real and virtual realities so quickly that the line between the two worlds vanishes." This is the goal ofNO REALITY collaboration, to give the audience a truly transportive live experience. "We are constantly experimenting and thinking of ways to create a new form of performance by utilizing technologies such as machine and deep learning," adds Manabe.
The NO REALITY vision was birthed with their first live performance together at Taico Festival in Japan last year, however the US premiere is the initial realization of the dream. While Nosaj has been known for his leading edge visual shows, the Daito live performance promises to be a mind-blowing revelation. Plans are being formed now for the next set of US tour dates, for Fall 2016.
In the meantime, check out the cover art for the NO REALITY EP and first track "N R 2" above now and see below for all EP details and tour dates.

"A truly bracing performance." The Independent
“A powerful display of rock 'n roll unparalleled anywhere else in the capital.” Gigwise (London)
“A raucous display of real, unique music that is a breath of fresh air…” Wordpress
“We know we’re in good hands and for just one banging, mind blowing joyous hour, we enter their wild world with a show that unapologetically sets the bar for 2016.” Oxford Mail
“Studiously crafted and meticulously executed from start to finish, if any doubts remained as to whether Fat White Family were the most important rock and roll band of their generation, this should put a lid on it once and for all. For Songs for Our Mothers is of a rare breed of record that's both of its time yet timeless in nature.. “ Drowned In Sound
"Fat White Family have a knack for turning questionable taste into excellent punk rock." Rolling Stone
"...rock ‘n’ roll desperados who play with such debauched ferocity that you worry their art will be the death of them." NewYork Post
“What makes them special is that it’s organic. Their music is an extension of themselves, pure id, and that’s what makes them so enthralling. This is the sound of a death-or-glory headlong charge.” Line Of Best Fit
“Fat White Family never sought to embrace high art. High art thrust itself upon them.” NY Observer
”…off-kilter, anthemic passages.” Autre
“Any album that makes you worry about yourself is worth exploring. It’s even better if it’s excruciatingly cool in the process. Fat White Family have built a nonstop, sit-down kind of album that grips you all the way through its strangely elegant finish. But where Songs For Our Mothers really triumphs is in its ability to take you somewhere totally new – even if you’d prefer not to know where that is.” Pancakes And Whiskey

“Affliction and addiction shape their twisted worldview, and while their musical translation of this mindset—infusing the darkly-shaded psychedelia of Velvet Underground with the cheap electronic throb of Suicide— is anything but pretty on the ears, the group’s knotted noise feels inviting.” Pitchfork
“…the band's most intricate and best recordings yet. It’s as if they’re goading, ‘Sure, criticise us, but just listen to these choruses!’ NME

WHITE LUNG RELEASE NEW SINGLE "KISS ME WHEN I BLEED" OFF OF FORTHCOMING ALBUM
PARADISE - OUT MAY 6TH ON DOMINO
US & CANADA TOUR ANNOUNCED
Photo: Rick Rodney
Fresh off of a victorious SXSW, White Lung release another stellar track off their upcoming fourth studio album Paradise, due out May 6, 2016 on Domino. Front woman Mish Barber-Way explains, "'Kiss Me When I Bleed' is about pride. That kind of steadfast, I-don't-give-a-fuck-I'm-in- love pride in that we all wish we had for someone. This song is my fairytale. Riches to rags and happily ever after because nothing else in this world really matters except love." Synthesizers? Nope. That's Kenny William's guitar. He has reworked and re-pitched his parts resulting in what Annie Clark (St. Vincent) compares to evil mosquitos - a bit off and unsettling.
This second cut, follows up the release 'Hungry', which received 'Best New Track' from Pitchfork, who said "propelled by ringing guitars and Way's piercing vocals, the track is a tightly-wound, catchy-as-fuck invective played at a polished, breakneck velocity." Also, noting the band is "ostensibly teetering on the edge of a major breakthrough."
White Lung will tour extensively throughout the US and Canada summer. The band will kick the tour off on release day in Toronto, followed by a Record Release show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn, NY. Other highlights include an appearance at the inaugural Panorama Festival, Montreal's Osheaga Festival and Levitation in Vancouver.
For the making of Paradise, vocalist Mish Barber-Way, guitarist Kenneth William and drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou reconnected in Los Angeles to work with producer Lars Stalfors (HEALTH, Cold War Kids, Alice Glass). In October of 2015, White Lung spent a month in the studio, working closely with Stalfors to challenge what could be done with their songs. Bringing all the energy, unique guitar work and lyrical prowess the band are known for to the studio, White Lung curated their songs with a new pop sensibility, focusing in on making a record for the present - "I wanted a record that sounded like it was made in 2016", said William. Mixed by Stalfors and later mastered by Joe LaPorta, Paradise is their smartest, brightest songwriting yet.
Mish Barber-Way and Kenneth William sat down with Annie Clark a.k.a St. Vincent to discuss the making of the album and their creative process. The entire conversation can be read here.

RAMONES
RARE AND PREVIOUSLY UNPUBLISHED PHOTOS OF THE RAMONES BY DANNY FIELDS

‘My RAMONES - Danny Fields’ is a unique document of the band’s early career that will be published on 27th April 2016 as a hardback limited edition.
The photobook collects rare and never before-seen photographs of the Ramones compiled in collaboration with Danny, the band’s first manager. Chosen from his extensive personal archive, all the images of the four founding members of the Ramones were taken between 1975 – 1977 when Fields co-managed them with Linda Stein and had unique access to the band. The photos are accompanied with commentary and captions by Fields adding new perspective and insight to one of the best-known bands in recent music history.
View images from the book here
Fields first saw the Ramones play at CBGBs in New York; after a 17 minute set, he met with the four founding members and told them that he wanted to be their manager. “I had to bribe them with $3000 which they said they needed for a new set of drums. I went to Florida, asked my mother to lend me the money, came back with her cheque, and got the job. I photographed the band on tour, backstage, in the studio, walking around, meeting fans, seeing the sights and just checking things out” says Fields.
Fields and his partner Linda Stein brought the band to London in July 1976, where their appearances at The Roundhouse and Dingwall’s had an indelible influence on the emerging punk scene in the UK.

About Danny Fields
Danny Fields is a Godfather in the Rock & Roll community. He has been a journalist, editor, disc jockey, photographer, manager, publicist and record executive throughout his musical tenure. After dropping out of Harvard Law School, he began integrating with Andy Warhol and The Factory crowd. Once acting as the publicist for The Doors, Danny’s career flourished. He went on to work for Elektra Records, and was responsible for discovering and managing The Ramones, MC5 and Iggy and The Stooges. He had a life-long relationship with Linda Eastman McCartney and, after her death, wrote a biography of her life.
