EVEN VLADIMIR PUTIN IS A CONTRIBUTOR ON THE ALBUM

Pussy Riot does not announce their debut album CYKA with a cute Instagram carousel - instead they launched it with an explosive protest at the Venice Biennale, the so-called "Olympics of the art world", timed deliberately to coincide with Russia's controversial return to the event. The stunt made headlines globally and sent exactly the message intended: we see you, we hate it, we brought cameras, and we declare “DISOBEY”.

They officially announced their debut music album CYKA to come out on Friday, June 12th. Vladimir Putin is even listed as a contributor on the album (please check the DSP liner notes) and make of that what you will. Fourteen years of protest, imprisonment, surveillance, exile, and survival crystallized into one record; CYKA is the album Pussy Riot’s founder, Nadya Tolokonnikova, was always building toward. Alongside today’s debut announcement, they release “CANDY DOPAMINE” featuring Avenged Sevenfold. It’s a fever dream/panic attack collision of punk rage, pop hooks, and the kind of emotional honesty that makes you feel like you've been punched in the chest in the best possible way. "to a place / where we're free / popping candy dopamine / no more pain / you and me" Spotify / Youtube.

Nadya Tolokonnikova explains: “This song is kind of a love & hate song to prescription and designer drug culture. It started with my dependence on anti depressants, but it’s also looking at everyone now mentalhealthmaxxing and looksmaxxing via pills and injections. It’s not a judgement, it’s just an observation and my personal experience with these things is that I have to be in a long term relationship with them for my PTSD and depression.”

Next, Pussy Riot will bring the apocalypse live to Paris at the BEYOND THE STREETS exhibit in Grande Halle de la Villette on Saturday, June 20th. More live shows to be announced.

Pussy Riot declares: All these old men ruining the world right now act tough - but we see thru their fragile egos - and I’m not afraid to call them out. They are, in fact, pussies. While the world is waiting for the UFC Freedom 250 on June 14 at the White House, I challenge President Putin to a cage match. He thinks he’s so tough, but afraid of a girl? Let’s see. He loses? He gets the fuck out of Ukraine. The world can watch him lose to a girl, even with all his judo training. He can’t even URA anymore, but he throws the world into despair.

Just like Brener in 1995 when they bombed Chechnya, and he challenged Yeltsin, now they bomb Ukraine, and I challenge Putin. “Putin! Come here!”

About Pussy Riot / Nadya Tolokonnikova:
Nadya Tolokonnikova is a conceptual artist, musician, wanted criminal, and creator of the protest collective Pussy Riot. She spent two years in a Russian jail for her protest performance “Punk Prayer” (2012), which is widely considered one of the defining works of performance art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Her 2023 performance “Putin’s Ashes” and exhibition (Jeffrey Deitch, Dallas Contemporary, CONTAINER, OK Linz, Neue Nationalgalerie) landed her back on Russia’s wanted list.

In 2025, “POLICE STATE” premiered at MOCA Warehouse Los Angeles, but was shut down due to the nearby National Guard and anti-ICE protests that erupted in a clash of life-imitates-art. The performance was listed as a Defining Artwork of 2025 by ARTNews and Best Art Shows Around the World by Hyperallergic. The performance was then shown at MCA Chicago in October 2025.

Among her accolades, including Time Woman of the Year, the Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought, LennonOno Grant for Peace, Woodie Guthrie Prize, and an Honorary Doctorate from RISD, Nadya also wears as a badge of honor the 2025 designation of Pussy Riot as an Extremist Organization by the Russian Federation

She dreams of a day when the world will wake up to the news that Putin has died and that Ukraine is victorious. She currently lives in exile and chooses to remain geographically anonymous.

Today Berlin-based artist, musician and vocalist ANYX announces details of her debut solo album ‘Starlink’, set for release on August 28th via La Rubia Producciones. Along with the news she shares the album’s first single & accompanying video, Ladybirds Spine”.

‘Starlink’ is the first solo work by ANYX – aka Berlin-based artist, musician and vocalist Anna Lucia Nissen – emerging from her previous work as front-person of the trio Anchoress.

Today’s single Ladybirds Spine opens the album with assertive grandiosity: an authoritative drumbeat in tandem with a wall of guitar noise, vast and all-encompassing. But when a voice enters the frame, it does so with disarming vulnerability: “On the back of a Ladybird’s spine / Life seemed too much, too much for my kind”.

"Those opening lines came first. I wrote this song from a place where everything felt too big, too loud, too much — the pressure of visibility, of documenting your life online just to prove it's real. I felt like I couldn't keep up. Like sitting on a ladybird's spine, seeing the world from that tiny, overwhelmed perspective." ANYX comments. "But underneath that smallness is something stubborn - the feeling that I can still act, still choose, still move through the noise on my own terms. I won't rise - to your standards, but my own. I won't dance - at your parties, but my own."

Existing in the tension between the overwhelming world we occupy and the private worlds we build for ourselves, “Ladybirds Spine” captures both the vastness of the stars in the sky and the speck of dust they emerged from. From its vulnerable start, ANYX’s voice warps and transforms to express anger, spite and defiance, commanding the surrounding instrumentation to drop out and build itself up again from nothing. The song expresses the overwhelm of being strung between conflicting states: the miraculous eternity of the natural world competing with the follies of contemporary capitalist life.

The video for "Ladybirds Spine" was directed by Tobias Textor. ANYX comments: "Ladybirds Spine lives between two emotional states. On one hand, there's this feeling that everything has become too big, too loud and too fast, that you're struggling to keep up with a world built around endless visibility, consumption and performance. That's the character wandering through shopping malls and other liminal spaces, feeling overwhelmed and out of place.

But at the same time, there's another energy running through the song. Defiance. Desire. A refusal to disappear. When I sing 'I won't rise to your standards, I won't dance at your parties', I don't hear resignation. I hear someone creating their own space instead. That's why the second character dances through a parking garage surrounded by black luxury cars, reclaiming these symbols of power for herself.

In a way, the video says: I'm not dancing at your party. I'm dancing at my own party in the parking garage between your shiny cars while you're sitting at home watching the evening news. Both characters are me. One feels small. The other refuses to stay that way."

Co-written with previous collaborators Alexander Rathbone and Tobias Textor, ‘Starlink’ represents both a progression and something of a return to ANYX’s roots as a visual artist. She takes a sculptural approach to her songs, starting with her voice and words as internal navigation from which she works outwards. Around this core, she builds minimal instrumentation – harp, keys, guitar, double bass – until each song is muscular and multi-dimensional.

The title ‘Starlink’ comes from a night spent looking at what appeared to be stars, but were actually man-made satellites: the miraculous eternity of the natural world interrupted by the machinery and ambitions of modern capitalism. Throughout the album, Nissen explores these incongruities and tensions through ever-shifting arrangements, overlapping textures and songs that transform and bleed into one another.

Centred around a magnetic and androgynous vocal delivery, ANYX crafts experimental pop dirges merging drone atmospheres with theatrical intensity. Her voice moves effortlessly between force and tenderness, opening liminal spaces where the transcendent and incomprehensible coexist. On stage, she transforms concerts into visceral, performative experiences, shaping both her body and the surrounding space into a self-authored universe.

ANYX live dates:
Sept 16 - Berlin, DE - Galiläakirche (w/Kristof Hahn & Andy Aquarius)

KÁRYYN releases new album, PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL) | Listen to 'ELSEWHEN'

K Á R Y Y N
NEW ALBUM
PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL)

OUT TODAY ON MUTE

LISTEN TO ‘ELSEWHEN’ HERE

LONDON, UK INSTORE - ROUGH TRADE DENMARK ST

THURSDAY 11 JUNE

KÁRYYN today shares her 10-track new album PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL), out today via Mute. The project is the latest work from the Syrian-Armenian-American singer, producer, and composer whose music exists at the intersection of sound, spirit, and physics. Across PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL), KÁRYYN constructs what she describes as “emotional architecture”: music designed not simply to describe feeling, but to conduct it.

The album arrives following the release of ‘COLLAPSE PHASE’ and ‘END TO KNOWING YOU’, which together introduce the record’s emotional and sonic universe while drawing acclaim from Pitchfork, METAL, Glamcult, Kaltblut, The Line of Best Fit, and more. KÁRYYN also recently appeared on the cover of MusicTech Magazine and was highlighted by Women Moving The Needle, alongside Lola Young. Both singles arrived alongside videos conceived by KÁRYYN and directed by Jenna Marsh, whose collaborators include Charli XCX and Eartheater, and produced by Black Dog Films.

Latest single ‘ELSEWHEN’ unfolds as a pop mantra about nonlinear time, emotional distance, and the grief of being misunderstood. Across the track, KÁRYYN performs the failure of language in real time, rearranging words as she searches for a way to say what she means.

“The verses don’t describe the search - they are the search,” KÁRYYN explains. “I need a new alphabet, a brand new vocabulary, enough to say how sad I’ve been, how alone.” Words collapse and rebuild throughout the song, reaching toward emotions the existing language can’t fully contain.

At its core, ‘ELSEWHEN’ captures the dislocation of understanding a relationship long before the other person does - and the distance that remains when understanding finally arrives too late. “One day years from now you might wake up,” she sings, “just know that I was there years from where you are.” Less a plea than a transmission from another timeline, the track imagines love continuing to echo long after separation.

Described by KÁRYYN as “not an inquiry but a conclusion rendered in sound,” PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL) distills years of exploration into intimacy, perception, time, and transformation. Inspired equally by quantum physics and spiritual philosophy, the album proposes that the same invisible forces shaping the cosmos also govern memory, connection, and human relationships. “PULL is about the invisible forces that hold us, break us, and pull us back together,” KÁRYYN says. “It’s a framework for understanding my relationship with Self. This record is the sound of my human revolution.”

Built from voice, strings, modular synths, and gravitational rhythms tuned to 432Hz, the album incorporates arrangements informed by Armenian and Middle Eastern musical traditions, woven subtly through rhythm and melody. KÁRYYN’s voice remains the centre throughout, shifting between fragility, intensity, and control as the music moves between intimate and expansive states. Executive produced by KÁRYYN and James Ford, the album was co-produced with Hudson Mohawke, with additional production from Jacques Greene, Steve Nalepa, Luca Perry, and Duncan Fuller. String arrangements and performances come from Raven Bush, alongside qanun performances by internationally acclaimed Syrian musician Maya Youssef. The album was mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Joker.

At its core, PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL) is an album about collapse, courage, renewal, and emotional clarity, tracing the invisible forces that break us apart and pull us back together again. “I went hunting for dark matter,” KÁRYYN says. “Instead I found brilliance, light, and potential.”

PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL) is out now on limited edition white vinyl, CD and digital via Mute.
