Borrowing its memorable images from the 1992 Japanese S&M film Topaz (a.k.a. Tokyo Decadence), HTRK’s video for this live version of "Fascinator" sets palpable longing against a seemingly endless loop of passing trees in blossom. Mess + Noise have premiered the track and video today. Dazed and Confused have shared the EP in full along with a brief interview with HTRK. 

The Part Time Punks Radio Sessions release by HTRK and Tropic of Cancer holds six sublime songs of desire.

Comparable to a fly-on-a-wall Peel Sessions, the critically acclaimed Part Time Punks radio show is the sound of the LA underground, run by local icon Michael Stock.

The limited split captures both bands live at the radio headquarters during HTRK’s first 2011 tour of the USA, accompanied by comrades in minimalism and melancholia, Tropic of Cancer.

Flipping this vinyl sounds like two sides of the same cursed coin, and mirrors a high school dance playing an endless lustful waltz. BPMs bumped down to a psychic stalk. It’s a broken and beautiful memento.

The two bands offer a stream each from these sessions. HTRK's "Synthetik" is taken from 2011's mind-bending Work (Work, Work) album released on Ghostly International. Tropic of Cancer's "A Color" is a track originally from their underground favorite The Sorrow of Two Blooms EP available on Blackest Ever Black.

HTRK are currently recording a new album with Excepter’s Nathan Corbin in the producer’s chair, while Tropic of Cancer are reportedly working on their debut album for release on Blackest Ever Black in 2012.

METZ will resume their previously announced North American tour this weekend in support of their critically acclaimed debut, out now on Sub Pop.  The trek kicks-off this Saturday, October 27 in Chicago, IL at the Empty Bottle and ends on Thursday, November 22 in Montreal, QC at Il Motore. The tour comes hot on the heels of METZ well-received CMJ and European shows. "QUEBEC MAGNETIC" ON DECEMBER 10, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA - October 25, 2012 - Metallica today announced that they will release a live DVD entitled "Quebec Magnetic" on December 10, 2012. The DVD captures the two World Magnetic live shows which took place in Quebec City in the fall of 2009.

"This release is a first for us," said Metallica in a statement on Metallica.com. "Yes boys and girls, the DVD and Blu-ray will be coming out on our very own label in North America! There are still some "i's" being dotted and "t's" crossed, so we can't give you a name or fancy logo just yet, but we're pretty excited that for the first time we get to hold all the reins on a release from start to finish. Since we now get to call all the shots, the double DVD and single disc Blu-ray will be available for a price we thought was very Metallica fan friendly - suggested retail will be $15.98 for either format."

The setlist for the DVD was voted on by the over 35,000 of the band's fans at Metallica.com this past September.

Brooklyn-based rock and roll trio Nude Beach are fresh off the release of their II LP, and today are elated to share their brand new music video for "Some Kinda Love." The video was written and directed by Tom Scharpling, who is best known for hosting the radio program The Best Show on WFMU, and directing videos for Wild Flag, Titus Andronicus, The New Pornographers, and Ted Leo. 

The video depicts the band's energetic live performance, but with anonymous text narration from someone who is struggling to stay on topic; the end result is hilarious. Mute and Spoon are delighted to announce that, due to phenomenal demand, Can’s The Lost Tapes will be released as a 5 LP box set on 180g vinyl on December 4th, 2012.

 

The Lost Tapes was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, compiled by Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore and edited by Jono Podmore. The vinyl issue of The Lost Tapes will come with a 24” square poster and a 28 page booklet with sleeve notes by Irmin Schmidt and Ian Harrison.

 

 ‘Lost Tapes’ were discovered when the legendary Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock N Pop Museum. The new owners sentimentally preserved everything, including the army mattresses that covered the walls for sound protection, and relocated it to Gronau.

 

Whilst dismantling the studio, master tapes were found and stored in the Spoon archive. With barely legible labeling, no one was sure what was on these until Irmin Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore started to go through over fifty hours of music.

 

What they found was years of archived material--not outtakes, but rather tracks which had been shelved for a variety of reasons – soundtracks to films that were never released and tracks that didn’t make it onto the final versions of albums due to space.

 

Irmin Schmidt explains “Obviously the tapes weren't really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them. Everybody except Hildegard, who watches over Can and its work like the dragon over the gold of the Nibelungen and doesn't allow forgetting.”

 

The final cut of tracks, dating from 1968-1977, features studio material recorded at Schloss Nörvenich and Can Studio, Weilerswist with the Can line up of Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitars, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards, and on most tracks, vocals from Malcolm Mooney or Damo Suzuki.

 

Can was formed by ex-student of Stockhausen Irmin Schmidt, who, fired by the sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa abandoned his career in classic music to form a group which could utilise and transcend all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music.

 

Can’s influence is well known and far-reaching and the impact they made on music is felt today as keenly as it ever has been. They themselves have always been impossible to classify and reflecting this, the scope of artists who in recent years have cited Can as a major influence is varied from John Lydon to Radiohead, The Fall to Portishead.

ANGEL OLSEN ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR IN SUPPORT OF HALF WAY HOME

Angel Olsen has a fresh edge to her sound, a warm and wonderful range, and an otherworldly skill and charm. Her special presence became apparent through her debut, Strange Cacti and radiates even more on her sophomore album, Half Way Home. Released last month on Bathetic Records, Half Way Home is a continuation of Angel's elegance, a collection of both new and old music, honed and matured, thoughts revisited. It presents this beautiful woman and her extraordinary voice taken to a new level, in no doubt a growth and reach brought on by many road trips with Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and crew. It's an emotional stew with Angel's robust voice up front, bold and engaging, aching to be heard.
