Gary Numan Announces Fall 2018 North American Headlining Tour

GARY NUMAN ANNOUNCES FALL 2018 NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR

Los Angeles, CA - June 29, 2018 - The iconic and highly influential Gary Numan has announced a North American headlining tour this fall. Beginning in Santa Ana, CA on September 4th, Gary will take his electric live show throughout the US and Canada before wrapping in Los Angeles on October 6th. For tickets and full list of dates, please visit HERE.

Following the release of his 22nd studio album, Savage (Songs From A Broken World), Gary hit the road last year for the first leg of his Savage North American Tour. Both the record & tour drew rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.

"Gary Numan's new album is a soundtrack for the Trumpocalypse." LA Weekly

"With Savage, the '80's new-wave icon is back - and better than ever." Electronic Musician

"If there were a word bigger than 'legendary', now would be a pretty great time to use it. Gary Numan is not just a musician, but a pioneer of sound." The 405

"You have an opportunity to come along for a marvelous ride with a musician at the peak of his powers when he performs." The Bay Area Reporter

Savage (Songs From A Broken World) succeeds Gary's album, Splinter (Songs From a Broken Mind), which earned him his highest chart-placing in 20 years and the best reviews of his career. On September 15th, 2017 Gary returned with the release of Savage (Songs From a Broken World)via BMG. Savage (Songs From a Broken World) is an energized and timely record that is motivated by the current Unites States political climate. The album debuted in the Top 40 on Billboard's Top Album Charts and is now available in physical and digital formats HERE

Savage (Songs From A Broken World) is an album with a narrative that is set in an apocalyptic, post-global warming Earth in the not-too-distant future. There is no technology left and most of the planet has turned to a desolate desert wasteland. Food is scarce, water even more so and human kindness and decency are just a dim and distant memory. Western and Eastern cultures have merged, more because of the need to simply survive than any feelings of greater tolerance or understanding. It is a harsh, savage environment, as are the survivors who still inhabit it.

While Numan was writing the record, Donald Trump was elected President of the Unites States. It made sense to make him and his climate decisions the catalyst for the apocalypse theme of the album.

The album was produced by long-term collaborator Ade Fenton, with recording sessions split between Numa's own studio in LA, and in the UK. Numan and Fenton's creative connection dates back to 2006's Jagged. "Ade is not only extremely creative but ridiculously hard working, even in difficult circumstances," says Numan. "It's easy to discuss alternative ideas with him, he's not precious about things and is always looking to make the music better, even if that means, on very rare occasions, undoing his own work and starting again."

THE MATTSON 2 ANNOUNCE MATTSON 2 PLAY A LOVE SUPREME

ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR WITH ASTRONAUTS, ETC.

The Mattson 2, the virtuosic guitar-and-drums jazz duo of twin brothers Jonathan and Jared Mattson, announced Mattson 2 Play A Love Supreme, their full album cover of John Coltrane's 1964 masterpiece. The record is due on August 17 on Spiritual Pajamas and finds the brothers translating the iconic saxophonist's spiritual vision into a thrilling 21st-century electric exploration. "For us it's about taking this beautiful art form and adapting it," says Jonathan, "being forward thinking and not trying to confine it to this narrow definition that has been set out by purists over the years." Along with the announcement, the Mattsons shared their version of "Resolution."

Mattson 2 Play A Love Supreme is available for pre-order now

The Mattson 2 recently wrapped a North American tour in support of psych-jazz breakouts Khruangbin. Prior to that, the duo released Chaz Bundick Meets the Mattson 2: Star Stuff, a collaborative album with the Toro y Moi frontman that Pitchfork said "swings between lucidity and lunacy and back again." Premier Guitar has praised the Mattson 2's "potpourri of sonic colors and trance-inducing grooves," while Aquarium Drunkard has called the twins' musicianship "telepathic chemistry - effortlessly and mesmerizingly in-sync."

Majken Releases Debut Single 'Lovely Daughter'

MAJKEN RELEASES FIRST SINGLE 'LOVELY DAUGHTER'
THE SWEDISH NEWCOMER'S DEBUT ALBUM IS SET FOR RELEASE THIS AUTUMN VIA KOLLEKTIVET RECRODS

'A plaintive, extraordinarily beautiful experience' Clash
'Lovely Daughter' - Soundcloud / Spotify

Majken was born in the southern Swedish coastal town of Karlskrona and has been writing songs since the age of 14. Scheduled for release this Autumn via Kollektivet Records, her debut album explores themes of teenage desire, uncertainly of the heart and mental health, experienced from both sides. The record was recorded at her home in Malmo with Damon Tutunjian (Mew, Swirlies), a kindred spirit who appreciates the strange magic of lo-fi recordings almost as much as she does. Tutunjian allowed her to raid his collection of 70’s synthesisers and effects, which helped to shape the sound of the record.

Debut single ‘Lovely Daughter’ is the oldest on the album and is about love and powerlessness. It was recorded through a built-in laptop mic using “Harp” - the sound that sounded least terrible in her sound library. “I just liked the softness of it together with the sad and sloppy guitar,” she says, “before I learnt to play it, all my early demos are drenched in that MIDI harp.”

June 28, 2018 –Pale Waves have released “Noises,” the second track from the band’s forthcoming debut full-length, set for late-summer release on Dirty Hit / Interscope Records – click HERE to listen. The new song was today’s World Record on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1.

The new single, which the band debuted live at their sold-out Bowery Ballroom show in New York earlier this year, reaffirmsSPIN’s beliefs that “Pale Waves might as well be from the actual ’80s.” Weaved together with shimmering synths,bubbly indie-pop chimes, and a massive guitar solo, sturdy enough to fill any room, “Noises” flawlessly captures the signature dream pop sound that send Pale Waves’ steadfast fan base into a full-tilt frenzy.

Pale Waves is also set to finish 2018 with a North American tour, set to run throughout late October, all of November and the start of December. The tour makes stops at Lollapalooza (where they’ll also hit the stage with Walk The Moon for aLollapalooza Aftershow at Concord Music Hall), Outside Lands Festival and a pair of arena stops with CHVRCHES throughout August, before headlining their biggest American shows to date, which include stops at Brooklyn Steel in New York and The Fonda in Los Angeles. Calpurnia - New video for "Greyhound"

Calpurnia, the indie rock band led by Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things fame, released their debut EP Scout last week. Today, they have released the video for their single "Greyhound."

The video's director Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux, had this to say about the video:
"6 years ago Malcolm, Finn & I (& Chandler Levack) worked on our first music video (only my 2nd one, and I think a pretty new experience for them at the time too!) together, where they played these wild young versions of our pals in the punk band PUP. It was a super gnarly, bloody,  freezing rain soaked shoot held together by a crew of maniacs, especially this incredible gang of young (they were only 11 and 12 year olds then!) dudes who came together for one day and somehow turned into a ferocious punk band. They were both like 5 feet tall  already inspiring and scary.

I thought we'd scarred them all for life, but a few years later we reunited to do a sequel. That was when I heard that Malcolm & Finn had actually started their own band (and they recruited Ayla to come out to the shoot as well), and, of course, they're great and rocking and different from anything you'd expect. Being in the crowd to see the fully formed Calpurnia (with Finn, Malcolm, Ayla and now Jack!) smashing out their own music to sellout crowds, and especially getting to work with them on this music video has been a surreal full circle and one of the most proud times I've ever had in filmmaking. They go super hard and still manage to be a dope squad to hang out and be on set with!"

Scout is now officially out into the world and has been receiving great reviews. Consequence of Sound called the album, "a promising debut," and also sat down with the band for a track-by-track breakdown of each song on the EP. Read the full feature here.

Finn Wolfhard also spoke with Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear in a fascinating conversation about what inspires them, you can read the full piece here. NME also featured Calpurnia in an online cover feature, read the article here.

Half Waif releases "Ocean Scope" video, 'Lavender' out now via Cascine

HALF WAIF RELEASES "OCEAN SCOPE" VIDEO
LAVENDER OUT OUT NOW VIA CASCINE

Following the release of the critically acclaimed Lavender, Half Waif has released a striking video for the album's closer "Ocean Scope."

Of the Kenna Hynes-directed video, Nandi Rose Plunkett says: "The video for 'Ocean Scope' was treated in the same manner as the song - that is, as a closer, a bookend. Ocean Scope (the final track on Lavender) is an ultimate ending after an album full of talk of endings. The lyrics deal with confronting death, likening it to the onslaught of a loud sound before the song devolves into instrumental chatter. The track eventually resolves on a major chord as a sentiment of acceptance. To follow this structure, the video starts and ends on a salt marsh, where the land meets the ocean, with the first section occurring at dusk and the final section at dawn. What happens in the night in between is a spiritual reverie, a walk through the ego and revisiting of past selves."

Lavender is available now via Cascine.

ABOUT HALF WAIF:
Half Waif began in 2012 as a vehicle for the thoughts, stories and songs of Nandi Rose Plunkett. Since then, alongside bandmates Adan Carlo and Zack Levine, Half Waif has created a powerful sound that's designed to be both immediate and experimental - song structures that shift and interlock underneath swells of synth, surges of percussion and undulating melodies upon which ride waves of intricate vocals. Lyrically, Half Waif traverses complex emotional landscapes. Influenced by Nandi's Williamstown, Massachusetts, upbringing as the daughter of an Indian refugee mother and an American father of Irish/Swiss descent, Half Waif's songs are forever searching to understand what it means to be truly "home."

In the span of three years, Half Waif have self-released two EPs and two albums, with 2016'sProbable Depths garnering the attention of the worldwide music media, including NPR singling out the track 'Turn Me Around' and Pitchfork awarding it their coveted Best New Track distinction. In 2017, Half Waif joined the Cascine family to release their widely acclaimed form/a EP - a collection of mood-driven songs that expand on the project's exploration of place-making. That same year, Cascine reissued Probable Depths, giving the album its first ever vinyl pressing. Half Waif spent the bulk of the year on near-constant tour supporting Julien Baker, Iron & Wine, Mitski and Land of Talk, while also headlining runs in America and Europe.

2018 will see Half Waif release their newest album, Lavender. Opening a new era for the project, this album expands upon themes of travel and leaving home to include connections Nandi forged with the women in her family. About Lavender she shared:

"Lavender is so named for my grandmother Asha - a nod to the lavender she would pluck from her garden and boil in a pot on the stove. The first time I noticed her doing this, it struck me as a kind of magic: the small black cauldron bubbling with a piece of the earth. She did it to make the house smell good. I believe it was also a ritual of purification, clearing out any shadows that may have tried to creep into the old English home she'd lived in, alone, for fifty years.

When I wrote and recorded Lavender, my grandmother was alive, and though she wasn't ill at the time of her sudden death in September, it was obvious her life - after 95 years - was drawing to a close. As a result, themes of aging and collapse are all over this album. It is an elegy to time, the pilgrimages we take, and the ultimate slow plod towards our end. It is an examination of the way we fracture, inside ourselves and inside our relationships - the fissures that creep along the structures we build, the tendency towards disintegration.

We face many endings in our lives, on the path toward that unfathomable yet omnipresent ultimate Ending. Break-ups and divorces, marriages and the estrangement of the self, hard times and bittersweet relief, steep precipices that rise up beyond our control over and over again. These endings are markers of time and growth, small personal apocalypses that pockmark our days. And yet there is more to come when the terror subsides; even the night itself - that great darkness - must end and give way to new light. Lavender is a talisman to hold in the midst of that uncertainty, to heal and remind ourselves that it's not over. It's not ending yet."

Lavender was co-produced by David Tolomei and mastered by Heba Kadry. It launches April 27, 2018 on Cascine.
