Following its sold-out inaugural year in 2019, THING, the intimate three-day multidisciplinary event located at Fort Worden in scenic Port Townsend, WA, returns August 26-28, 2022. Produced by Seattle Theatre Group (STG) and Adam Zacks—STG’s Chief Programming Officer and founder of the acclaimed Sasquatch! Festival—the event features a unique and eclectic offering of tightly curated programming including music, comedy, food, podcasts, visual arts and more.

This year’s lineup includes Jungle, Modest Mouse, Father John Misty, Goose, Sparks, Freddie Gibbs, José González, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, Please Don’t Destroy and more. See below for the complete programming lineup.

THING features two primary stages—Littlefield Green and the Parade Grounds—overlooking Puget Sound, as well as McCurdy Pavilion (a decommissioned balloon hangar) and the charming and intimate art-deco Wheeler Theatre. A variety of camping and parking accommodations will also be available for purchase as well as both three day and single day passes. The event is open to all ages and will feature multiple beer gardens with valid ID required for entry. Kids 12 & under are free.

Seattle Theatre Group (STG) is dedicated to ensuring programs and events are accessible for everyone who wants to attend and participate. THING will offer the following services: ASL interpretation, special viewing areas, modified interactive sessions, sensory + break areas led by Sensory Access and more! ABOUT FORT WORDEN

Fort Worden and its epic natural setting of Port Townsend—dubbed “the Paris of the Pacific Northwest” by Sunset Magazine—is the kind of destination that stays with one for a lifetime. Originally designed as a military base to protect Puget Sound, Fort Worden has evolved into an iconic and cherished state park and lifelong learning center with accommodations, venues, restaurants and catering. Fort Worden’s magnificent setting encompasses 434 acres with 12 miles of forested hiking trails, two miles of walkable saltwater beaches and commanding views of the Olympic and Cascade mountains as well as views across the Strait of Juan De Fuca to the San Juan Islands. The 4th annual Happy Sundays LBC, a free, multi-venue, one-day, music, arts & comedy festival, returns to the Zaferia District in Long Beach on Sunday, August 25th, 2019. All set times now available on flyer above and on their website here: https://happysundayslbc.com/ Recently announced are this year's headliners for the comedy stage at the Long Beach Playhouse: Kyle Kinane and Neil Hamburger. Kyle has appeared on Fallon, Conan, Comedy Bang Bang and was recently in the Netflix series 'The Standups.' While Neil has opened for the likes of Tenacious D, Tim & Eric, and Faith No More, appeared on TV shows ranging from Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! to Jimmy Kimmel and worked extensively with Tom Green on his internet talk show. Both sets will surely be packed out, so get there early! Created by Julia Kugel (The Coathangers) and Scott Montoya (ex-Growlers), Happy Sundays came out of their idea to gather a wide range of artists for a perfect, hassle-free day of comedy and music. Giving back to the chill and free-flowing LBC community has been a priority since day one, so each year they've partnered with local businesses to offer a free event that is designed to support the community's interests. Says Julia, "Our goal is to spread positivity to the community through music and good vibes," and Scott adds, "Happy Sundays is our way of supporting the community and small business by bringing art and music to the people-- Happy Sundays will always be free for this reason." The Coathangers will headline the festival this year, along with cumbia punk act Tropa Magica, dream goth-pop outfit Prettiest Eyes, '70s local Long Beach punk legends Suburban Lawns (reuniting as Suburban John), Scott and Julia's own band White Woods, and +40 other LA area acts spanning punk, pop, folk, classic rock 'n' roll, comedy and more. The sponsors for the festival feature mostly local LBC businesses and politicians including the Mayor of Long Beach Robert Garcia, Councilman Daryl Supernaw, the Zaferia Business Association, the Port of Long Beach, and local businesses Tom's Tires, Brascia Builders, and the OC Weekly. A few national brands like Golden Road Brewery, New Balance Numeric and Topo Chico are also involved. The shows will take place across nine venues including Alex’s Bar, Analog Records, Ashtanga Yoga, Bamboo Club (DJ sets only), DiPiazza’s, Iguana Kelley’s, the Long Beach Playhouse, Supply & Demand, and Red Leprechaun. Music will start at 1pm and two trolleys will be transporting people between venues for free. "The last great record of the last millennium" - Q, 2000

Twenty years ago a band came seemingly out of nowhere to deliver a record that "filled a deep-seated need listeners didn't even know they had" (re: Pitchfork's "Best Albums of the 00s"). The band was Sigur Rós and the record Ágætis byrjun, and to mark its 20th birthday this June, the band will release a definitive box set of this, their breakthrough album. The lavishly packaged, limited edition, seven vinyl album set will include early versions and demos of the songs on the record, as well as never before heard songs that for the first time draw a line back to early influences which would soon become undetectable in the rootless beauty of the finished article.

There is also an immaculate recording of the concert the band played at the Íslenska Óperan (Icelandic Opera House) on June 12, 1999 to celebrate the release of a record that would soon send them around the world on word-of-mouth; a pre-internet phenomenon. Live at Íslenska Óperan 1999 has been painstakingly mixed for the 20th anniversary edition by the band's Kjartan Sveinsson with Birgir Birgisson, who made the original recording of the event. The 90-minute show has not been heard in full since it was broadcast live on RAS 2 radio all those years ago. In a note of poignancy, the show at the Íslenska Óperan would be the last original drummer Águst Gunnarsson would play with his fellow bandmates, vocalist/guitarist Jón Thor Birgisson, bassist Georg Holm and keyboard player Kjartan Sveinsson, who himself had only officially joined the band the year before.

The Demos & Rarities and early live recordings, which stretch across six sides of vinyl, have been pulled together from the band's own personal archive and include many recordings they had forgotten existed. They ended up trawling through every cassette, DAT and other defunct audio storage system to unearth parallel versions of no fewer than eight of the nine songs on Ágætis byrjun*. Together these form a remarkable store of abandoned ideas, blind alleys, and could-have-beens.

Across the first two LPs of Demos & Rarities there are guide vocal versions of "Svefn-g-englar" and "Ágætis byrjun", an original speed version of "Staralfur", "Vidrar vel til loftarasa" with alternative massively extended string-laden ending, "Olsen Olsen" with an oboe; each a snapshot of a band trying things out and about to find their feet in a spectacular way. The third album of Demos & Rarities goes into the uncharted waters of early demos for the record, with songs so nascent that they don't yet have titles. Hugmynd 1, 2 and 3 reveal surprising, previously unseen facets of the band's development. Alongside these and the early b-side "Rafmagnið búið", is the long sought after "Debata Mandire", on which Jónsi and Kjartan duet in keening falsettos, before, as Kjartan says in the extensive sleeve notes, his "bad habits" robbed him of the ability to sing that high. In some cases the only source of this material might be a single, unlabelled cassette and, as a result, glitches need to be taken as part of the patina of age.

The deluxe vinyl box set also comes with an 84-page cloth-bound book, featuring a plethora of visual content drawn from the Sigur Rós archive (aka an overstuffed case in Kjartan's studio). Handwritten string arrangements, lost artwork ideas and early 'business cards', are seen alongside candid images of the band at the moment just before their lives changed. The whole is housed in an elegant linen-bound box, available exclusively thru the band's website www.sigurros.com. The first 1999 copies will be numbered. All the musical content available in the deluxe vinyl edition is mirrored in the expanded 4 x CD edition, and is included in the double vinyl version as a download code. The 4xCD and 2xLP will be available in all good record stores from June 21, 2019.
