Today, genre-spanning NYC indie-rock stalwarts CALLA have announced news of DE FACTO, their sixth full-length studio album and first since 2007’s Strength In Numbers, to be released digitally on October 9th, 2026. It will be self-released on Nuevo Leon Recordings, Aurelio Valle from the band’s label.
Alongside this news they have also shared “Paralyzed,” a reinterpretation of their 2007 track “Stand Paralyzed.” Whereas the original was a slow burn of gentle emotion, “Paralyzed” 2026 proves a completely different track, commanding, evocative and propelled by sweeping guitar riffs and expansive, earnest arrangements.

Speaking on “Paralyzed,” Aurelio Valle of CALLA says:“Paralyzed” is a reimagined recording of “Stand Paralyzed,” originally released on our 2007 album Strength in Numbers on Beggars Group. At the time, we were touring heavily and racing to finish the record, so while we're proud of it, some songs never felt completely finished. This was always one of our favorites. I was originally trying to write a Lou Reed-style song, and although we loved its stripped-down approach, we always felt there was more we could do with it. We approached “Paralyzed” almost like a cover version or a remix of our own song. Revisiting it now felt less like remaking something and more like picking up where we left off.”
CALLA found their roots in the vibrant and eclectic post-punk musical landscape of Texas via New York City and Brooklyn at the start of 1996.
In the East Village music scene of New York in the mid-90s, the band shared the stage and found kinship with bands like Jonathan Fire-Eater,
Speedball Baby and Interpol; under the guidance of producers Kid Congo Powers (The Cramps, The Gun Club, Nick Cave) Michael Gira (Swans, Angels of Light).
In late '97, CALLA was driven by their vision to fuse vintage sounds with experimental and modern influences. From their musical experiences in roots, blues, garage, post-punk, slowcore, shoegaze and electronic experimental music, they were imperative in laying the foundation in the Brooklyn, New York post-punk alternative music scene.
The band's debut album received critical acclaim, setting the stage for their collaboration with Michael Gira of Swans on their second album.
Anticipation surrounded the forthcoming release in the winter of 2000 on Young God Records (in the USA) and Sub Rosa (worldwide).
Eventually, delivering critically acclaimed records for Arena Rock Label and Beggars Group.
The band toured extensively and expansively worldwide, playing with the likes of fellow New York friends and musicians Interpol, The Walkmen, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, The National, Secret Machines, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cat Power and many others.
In recent years, the band has worked on different projects; Aurelio Valle as a producer, also scores music for documentaries, television, and film.
As a solo artist, Aurelio Valle released the record, Acme Power Transmission in 2014. The record included a critically acclaimed song, "Electraglide" written for and performed by Nina Persson of The Cardigans.
After a series of inspiring jam sessions, the band realized they had the foundation for something new. What began as a handful of promising ideas quickly evolved into a new body of work. Collaborating across Texas and New York, the band traded sessions, refined arrangements, and assembled a collection of songs that would become DE FACTO.
DE FACTO stays true to the unmistakable spirit of CALLA while expanding its sonic palette, blending the band's signature atmospheric sound with elements of glam and Americana. Alongside a compelling set of original material, the album features bold reinterpretations of Eddy Grant's "Killer on the Rampage," a Nina Simone-inspired rendition of "Sinnerman" and a cover of T. Rex’s “Ride A White Swan.”
DE FACTO has morphed into both a creative outlet and a response to the world around it. It channels resilience, urgency, and hope—capturing the weight of the moment while delivering rhythm, power, strength and the expansive sound that has always defined CALLA.
