(October 11, 2024) - Los Angeles darling Harmony releases her debut album Gossip via Harmony’s Fantasy Corp, today. Gossip includes the previously released singles “Stereo,” “No Romeo,” which arrived with a video directed, edited, and styled by Harmony herself, “Miss America,” “Thot Daughter” and “Coke and Mentos.” Additionally, Harmony shares the video for album track “Technologique,” which was built in the Sims. Gossip capitalizes on Harmony’s unique talent of pairing tongue-in-cheek and societally critical lyricism with ear-drum-rattling and intricate pop production from the likes of Bamster, Wyatt Bernard, Ruben Radlauer (of Model/Actriz), Frost Children, Ryan Raines and, of course, Harmony herself. Harmony recently sat with Hypebeast to discuss the inspirations behind Gossip, her relationship with the internet, and her hometown of Los Angeles.
To celebrate the release of Gossip, Harmony will host an album release party tonight at Bar Dada Echo Park in Los Angeles with DJ sets by Harmony, Junior Varsity, Zoe Gitter, Fifi, Quinn Blake, and Jasmine Johnson. RSVP to the event HERE.
The 11-track full-length expands upon the universe created with Harmony’s debut solo effort Dystopia Girl released last year, which includes the standout tracks “Good Things Take Time,” “Angel Kisses,” and “Shoplifting From Nike.” On Gossip, Harmony explores the dichotomy between judgment and shame in contrast with the ideology of what makes someone virtuous or “good.” Throughout the album’s songs, Harmony delves into various characters and examines a myriad of personality traits – both the ugly and beautiful – provoking the listener to hold up a mirror to look inside themselves.
Harmony is a singer-songwriter who has made a name for herself with her poignant lyrics and delicate, evocative voice. As one half of canonical indie band Girlpool, Harmony’s songwriting has often been praised for its striking honesty and emotional clarity. With her foray into pop music which began with her aforementioned 2023 EP Dystopia Girl, she brings the same poetical fervor and olympic emotion. Harmony explores the complexities of the human experience with a depth and sensitivity that is rare in the pop music landscape.
Born and raised in Hollywood, amidst a chimerical bricolage of glimmering fantasy and brutal destitution, Harmony has always been taken by contrast. Glitz and grime abreast, her hometown prompts questions of artifice and authenticity, instilling in her a belief that being is a creative act. Navigating this tentative relationship with reality, Harmony sings of infinity worlds, reality restarts, and angel kisses from the next dimension. Gossip goes to show that Harmony is nowhere near finished building out her own shimmering and thoughtful pop realm.
