Trust Records, a new label from punk and industry vets Matt Pincus and Joe Nelson, is thrilled to announce its debut release -- 1980’s landmark, Group Sex -- from Los Angeles hardcore stalwarts, the Circle Jerks. Out October 30, the genre-shaping fifteen minute album was the first release for vocalist Keith Morris (OFF!) after leaving Black Flag and was a key record to the early hardcore punk movement. Backed by Greg Hetson (ex Redd Kross, ex Bad Religion), Lucky Lehrer (ex-Bad Religion, ex-Wasted Youth, ex-Redd Kross) and Roger RogersonGroup Sex is nothing less than a crucial record to the hardcore punk movement.

Trust Records was formed to give classic punk and hardcore records the home that they deserve. The great records of the genre sprung from DIY roots to influence millions of disaffected kids around the world. Unfortunately, many of these seminal records of this great genre have been treated poorly in the streaming age - out of print, under-monetized or not properly accounted for. Trust Records’ mission is to correct this problem and treat punk and hardcore with the same reverence that other great genres like folk, jazz and blues have received.

“Before they had a name for the label Matt and Joe came to [us] with an opportunity of a lifetime,” says vocalist Keith Morris. “So choosing the name Trust Records is very appropriate as they've been nothing short of trustworthy and people of their word. That's insanely important when navigating through the music branch of showbiz world!"

In celebration of Group Sex’s 40th anniversary, Trust will present the seminal release with deluxe packaging by Robert Fisher, designer of Nirvana’s Nevermind, a bonus recording of a 1980 rehearsal, a 20-page booklet including unreleased photos and anecdotes from Tony HawkMike PattonShepard FaireyIan MacKayeLars Frederiksen and many more, in addition to a quality repackaging in a limited colored vinyl schema. The remastered audio will be released across all digital retailers and vinyl format. For more info and to pre-order go here: https://kingsroadmerch.com/circle-jerks/

Circle Jerks’ official anniversary tour, originally set for this summer, has been rescheduled for 2021. The run currently covers Europe, United Kingdom, Japan, Riot Fest and is subject to change. The lineup will consist of Keith Morris (vocals), Greg Hetson (guitar), Zander Schloss (bass) and drummer to be announced. See below for a full rundown of dates and go here for tickets.

More About Trust Records:

Trust Records was the brainchild of Matt Pincus and Joe Nelson, who met as hardcore kids and went on to build successful careers in music. Matt, who is Non-Executive Founder of Trust, was the bass player of legendary New York hardcore band Judge, went on to found and run SONGS, the leading contemporary music publishing company of its time. Publisher of the Weeknd, Lorde, Diplo, DJ Mustard and many of the world’s leading songwriters and artists, SONGS was the principal competitor to the major label publishers until its sale in 2017.

Joe, who is Co-Founder and GM of Trust, is a music merchandise veteran of two decades. Most recently as Senior Vice President of the Araca Group, and previously at Band Merch and Cinder Block, Joe created merchandising programs for over 100 artists including Run the Jewels, Leon Bridges, Phantogram, The Offspring, AFI, Britney Spears, Papa Roach, Slayer, Motorhead, Bon Jovi, Death Row Records, NWA and Evanescence.

With Trust Records, Matt and Joe want to give back to the scene that got them started in music. “Most people who grew up on punk and hardcore will tell a version of the same story: “I was unhappy as a kid. When I heard this music, I realized that there were other people in the world like me,” recalls Matt. “That feeling - that you are not in this alone - has global resonance. Like other great genres of music, American Hardcore endures decade after decade. It deserves to be treated with the same kind of reverence as other great culture moving genres. That’s what Joe and I set out to do with Trust Records.”

The idea for the label came out of Know Your Rights, a non-profit music publisher for hardcore bands such as Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today started while Matt was running SONGS. “Hardcore is inherently about DIY, but DIY by definition has no infrastructure,” details Matt about the inherent differences about the genre. “So, when you start to think generationally there becomes a real fear that this music will become lost. Because I ran a publishing company, we started with songwriters. After Joe came aboard, we realized that the best way to preserve and promote hardcore was by starting a label.”

So, Trust Records was born to help get watershed releases back into the hands of the public– to be for hardcore what Folkways is for American folk music or Trojan Records is for ska and reggae. With Joe now at the helm of the project, the label’s mission is to refresh and release these landmarks befitting the respect they deserve in the canon.

Trust Records not only understands the current music market, but has the passion and understanding on both the artist and the business side to do justice to the catalog. “Matt and I met 30+ years ago via this music,” Joe states, “And even though we come from completely different backgrounds and our lives have taken entirely different paths, we are still bonded in a lifelong friendship by it. It’s this friendship, passion and reverence that drives us and forms the basis of Trust Records.“

Look for Trust Records to roll out essential hallmarks of the hardcore and punk scenes -- starting with Group Sex -- in 2020 and on until infinity. As we move farther away from that original era and the influence of those independent records becomes more and more pronounced, preserving some of these classic albums are crucial not only to music culture, but the spirit of DIY and conscientious objection in total. These ideas not only ripple through art but through protest, political upheaval and independent thought.
