Automatic's cover of Joy Division's "Shadowplay", originally recorded for the Eddie Huang's Vice Is Broke feature documentary, channels the original's stark intensity, with Halle Saxon-Gaines’ skeletal bassline and Izzy Glaudini’s brooding vocals and synths.

“Shadowplay” follows Automatic’s latest album, Is It Now?, released on Stones Throw in 2025. The Wire described it as “Magnetic and infectious… somehow leaves you cooler just for listening to it.” Balancing irreverence with sharp commentary, the L.A. group approached recording writing the album with a dark sense of humor and a swing in their step. They believe that the message of change is best served with a backbeat and a cheeky groove, and on Is it Now? they demand we look at the world’s oppressive structures with fresh urgency.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, Automatic has been on the road, playing across Europe and North America – both headline shows and opening for LCD Soundsystem and The Last Dinner Party. Their Is It Now? tour continues throughout this month in the US, including a show at Stones Throw 30 Festival, and then next year they head to Australia for festival shows.
