Our connections with those around us are inherently transient, yet we often find ourselves defined by them. And if we find ourselves defined by these connections, what are we left with when they inevitably come to an end? This is arguably the central question of Bridge Over Cumberland, which marks a bold step forward for Oklahoma City, OK's Mad Honey. Their second full-length release on Deathwish Inc. and Sunday Drive Records, Bridge Over Cumberland is confident, assured, and undoubtedly their most complete work to date.

Debuting in 2018, Mad Honey quickly became one of the buzziest acts in the prolific OKC shoegaze scene, with lead vocalist Tuff Sutcliffe’s poignant lyricism serving as an enigmatic centerpiece. For this album, the band’s most collaborative effort yet, the production allows Sutcliffe’s shadowy presence to stand tall against a backdrop of billowing guitars. The eleven tracks unfold as a series of snapshots tracing the silhouettes of heartaches both platonic and romantic, both quotidian and cosmic.

Today, Mad Honey share two singles off of the new album and they comment:

“'Reaching' was the spark that started the writing process of this record—a song that took a while to come together, and was really challenging to produce. It was the first track we wrote and the last to be finished. This really felt like a full-circle moment that’s especially personal because it’s about the band itself.” - Lennon

“‘Marie’s Song' was written during a spontaneous jam at a practice session, and as we expanded on the lyrics and more melodic ideas, it quickly grew into one of our favorites on the album. It’s a heartfelt tribute to our dear friend Marie, whose support and friendship have meant the world to us.” - Tuff

By the time a gentle piano denouement carries us to the conclusion of the Bridge Over Cumberland, listeners are left with the sense that in spite of Sutcliffe so often finding herself unmoored and dealing with all of the ways in which deep feelings seemingly define us and threaten to destroy us when an important interpersonal dynamic comes to its inescapable conclusion, there’s ultimately a quiet conviction that all of this emotional pain can eventually result in hard-won growth. Bridge Over Cumberland therefore suggests that if you define yourself by these connections, what you are left with when they come to their inevitable end is a crossroads, both a risk of self-destruction and an opportunity for reinvention. It’s a tense, nervy conclusion, but also an empowering one. And given the accomplishment that this album represents, we can find solace in the fact that this time, reinvention has won out.

Holy Sun Opera House shares new single, "Latched On," from forthcoming debut LP

Holy Sun Opera House shares new single, "Latched On," from forthcoming debut LP

STREAM: "Latched On" -

FFO: early Dead Can Dance, Fever Ray, Klaus Nomi

Holy Sun Opera House at its core is soprano and drummer Krissy Barker with composer dl Salo. Along with a revolving cast of collaborators, singers and performers, they create emotionally engaging and haunting symphonic music embellished by electronics, heavy drums and synthesizers. The group has been described as “Opera Cult” and as one who might play at the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks. They draw influence from early Dead Can Dance, Fever Ray and Klaus Nomi.

About this track:

"'Latched On' is the second single off the upcoming debut album from Holy Sun Opera House. The song is a depiction of the compulsive psyche as a physical entity residing in The Holy Sun Opera House. The entity is a permanent fixture there, and is relentless. It is endlessly present, awake, and draining. It feeds off the anxiety and grows stronger with each thought. It is truly latched on."

About The Album
The Holy Sun Opera House is the group's self-titled debut set for release on May 15th, 2026 on the label Hologram Opera. The self-produced album was conceptualized as a way to describe an obsessive mind with music and inspired by the recurring dreams of singer Krissy Barker. In it is a realm of shifting rooms, dilapidated houses and passages. These unsettled rooms and spaces pose a striking confrontation of fear and anxiety from deep within.

In its conception, The Holy Sun Opera House was written as a passage through these ethereal dreams and spaces. The song "Latched On" depicts the compulsive psyche as a draining physical entity attached. While "Voice of Gob," "Decrepit Mansion," and "Room with the Rain" observe and attempt to find acceptance in this conflict. "The Passages" I & II travel between the curtains to the unknown entity residing in "The Attic," who looks inside the mind of the dreamer and determines she has no soul.

The album blends genres with electro, darkwave, and contemporary classical music. The ritualistic passages of the choir throughout the album are reminiscent of Wicker Man and 1970's mystic cults, praising the deities residing within the dream. The arrangement of synths, electronics, heavy drums and operatic singing lend itself to something uniquely memorable.

Austin Psych Fest 2026 is just around the corner! Today the festival is releasing the official schedule, along with lineup additions to their sprawling 2026 lineup. Austin Psych Fest takes over The Far Out Lounge May 8–10 with another wide-ranging exploration of psychedelic sound, bringing legendary icons, forward-thinking indie rock, global grooves, and deep-cut psych favorites to the big stage under the stars in South Austin.

The stacked 2026 lineup welcomes new additions to Friday’s roster including budding Austin favorites both garnering buzz for their enigmatic performances – trippy glam rock performance art outfit J’Cuuzi and electro-pop dance duo Almost Heaven. Saturday’s lineup additions include more Austin-based artists gaining traction – psych-rock band Dead Canyon Family Reunion and power-pop rock group Commercial Breaks.

Since its inception in 2008, Austin Psych Fest has embraced an expansive definition of psychedelia — not as a single genre, but as a feeling — tracing its roots from 1960s experimentation through modern interpretations shaped by reverb-soaked guitars, hypnotic rhythms, and adventurous songcraft. The 2026 lineup continues that tradition, spanning classic psych, indie rock, soul, cumbia, global psych, and everything in between.

Austin Psych Fest wouldn’t be possible without the support of its sponsors. The festival is excited to share the first round of this year’s partners, including Liquid Death, White Claw, Montucky Cold Snacks, Twisted X Brewing/McConohaze, KUTX and more to be announced.

Look out for final lineup additions to be announced soon, along with Kick Off and Night Shows across downtown Austin.

New Album ‘It’s Just My Opinion’ – Release May 8th 2026

LISTEN TO SQUIRM

PRE-ORDER IT’S JUST MY OPINION HERE

[March 31st, 2026 - New York, NY] Fearless alt-pop provocateur girli is back with ‘Squirm’ – the latest single to be lifted from her forthcoming third album ‘it’s just my opinion’, released via Believe Music on May 8th, 2026.

Squirm captures the messy, electric chaos of an overwhelming crush - when attraction tips into obsession and every look, thought and impulse starts spiralling out of control.

Built around distorted indie-sleaze guitars, handclaps and a driving dancefloor beat, the track channels the sweaty-venue energy that runs through the forthcoming album. Lyrically, girli leans fully into the awkwardness and humour of losing composure around someone you can’t stop thinking about, delivering a confident, high-energy alt-pop moment designed for both playlists and the live stage.

It’s girli at her boldest yet - an authentic, confident evolution of the queer alternative pop voice she’s built her community around, eloquently previewing her forthcoming third album 'it's just my opinion'.

Growing up in North London, girli absorbed the chaos and hooks of the indie sleaze scene, and now she channels that restless energy into songs that feel alive, pulsing like a sweaty gig in Camden or Shoreditch. It’s classic girli alt-pop — nostalgic, chaotic, and fearless, but sharpened with a bold new edge.

girli has been teasing the new era since the end of 2025, sharing ‘Better Undressed’, the powerful ‘Slap on the Wrist’ and recently released ‘Romantic Sadness’ Known for her shimmering, high-concept production and fearless commentary, girli now pivots toward a more grounded, girl-next-door energy, trading gloss for grit, and polish for raw, intimate expression.

It's about to be another huge year for girli as this Summer she’s hitting the road in full force, celebrating her new album and reconnecting with the community she’s beautifully built. Her new North American Tour will kick off right where it all began: Baby’s All Right, where she made her New York debut. She’ll be at the Brooklyn venue on June 11th, followed by stops in major cities including Chicago, DC, LA, and Toronto.

Since emerging with her breakthrough sophomore album, she has carved a space in the alternative scene for bold, boundary-pushing storytelling. boundary-defying album ‘Matriarchy’ is a deeply transparent exploration of both the struggles and triumphs of queer identity and womanhood, reinforcing her positions as an ambassador for the LGBTQIA+ community and a front-runner for the next generation of alt-pop music. She received praise from The Fader, AS IF Magazine, Bust Magazine, inclusion in  GRAMMY.com’s rising LGBTQ artists, and Billboard who said: “..Matriarchy is absolutely essential.”

As an openly LGBTQ+ artist and advocate for social change, girli continues to intertwine her personal journey with broader cultural conversations. Her past work has touched on themes of identity, politics, mental health, and more - and this new chapter builds on that same spirit of activism, but through a softer, more human lens.
