Following last month's MTV Video Music Award's performance of "Apple Juice" (recently praised by Howard Stern), a remixed release of "Body Count" featuring Kehlani and Normani, appearances at AFROPUNK and Made In America, two notable features on Eminem's newest album Kamikaze and now topping over 230M streams worldwide, Jessie Reyez has announced that her second EP, Being Human in Public, is set to be released on October 19th 2018 via Island / FMLY. Additionally, today she's shared another new track, "F*ck Being Friends", to kick off the sale of her North American "Being Human on Tour" Fall dates. The 29 date trek will take her across North America starting October 11th in Edmonton,Alberta at The Starlite Room and will wrap with a hometown show at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall on December 3rd. Tickets are on sale now along with a limited number of VIP Experience packages available - check www.jessiereyez.com for more info.

In the past year alone Reyez has continued to make a name for herself with hit singles, a support run on Halsey's US tour, and performances at a plethora of music festivals. Reyez has not only continued to get recognized by both critics and peers alike but has remained to stand out amongst them. Having won Canada's most prestigious Juno music award for 2018's Breakthrough Artist and getting nominated for two 2018 MTV Video Music Awards including Push Artist of the Year and Video With A Message for her standout and empowering music video "Gatekeeper," from 2017's debut EP Kiddo. Jessie continues to push the envelope while building excitement for her forthcoming EP Being Human In Public, especially with the bold and forthright new track "F*ck Being Friends", which Reyez has been previewing on live dates.

Recently, the Toronto born singer and songwriter contributed two features on the surprise release Kamikaze from iconic hip-hop artist Eminem, and collaborated with Daniel Caesar ("Figures, A Reprise"), Sam Smith ("Promises") and Calvin Harris ("Love Me Still"). Reyez and Harris also co-wrote Dua Lipa's summer hit "One Kiss". Even though Reyez is associated with big names, she still pulls her own weight with popular hits. Earlier this month, Reyez surprised fans with her debut Spanish song "Sola," proving she is a more versatile artist than what was already thought to believe. Reyez also released a solo track and accompanying music video for "Body Count," a liberating anthem she wrote for all men and women to feel empowered by their sexuality and not ashamed by it. The track was followed by a remix with Kehlani and Normani that continued to push the message.  Similar to her empowering mantras shown in "Gatekeeper," Reyez is determined to stick to an ethos of exposing industry sexism and predatory behavior, receiving coverage from media including Noisey, Complex, Pigeons & Planes, SPIN, Jezebel, Billboard, MTV, BET, Rolling Stone, W, HITS, Interview and more.

With music festivals lined up and over 230 million audio streams worldwide for her own music, Jessie Reyez is poised to become a household name as she continues to break bread within the music industry, one empowering message at a time. Stay tuned for more news to follow and catch Jessie Reyez live as she makes her way across North America.

ShadowParty Release AfterParty Remix EP; Listen To The Other Two's Remix Of "Reverse The Curse"

SHADOWPARTY

RELEASE AFTERPARTY REMIX EP

LISTEN TO THE OTHER TWO’S REMIX OF
“REVERSE THE CURSE”
Photo: Andrew Benge / Pierre Wetzel
ShadowParty have today released a new remix EP titled AfterParty. Included on the EP are remixes by fellow New Order bandmates Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert as The Other Two, as well as those byOuternationale, Stereotype, Beg Steal or Borrow and a reworking by A Certain Ratio. Listen to the full EP here.

ShadowParty – a band united by a fairly unusual circumstance as each member is a latter-day addition to a huge band – released their debut album on Mute earlier this year. Listen here.

The nucleus of the group formed when Josh Hager and Tom Chapman met in Boston, Massachusetts. Josh is a former member of The Rentals and currently plays guitar and keyboards in Devo. Tom Chapman is the former bass player of Bad Lieutenant who followed frontman Bernard Sumner to New Order in 2011 when the band reunited for a series of charity gigs. Completing the group are Phil Cunningham – Marion founding member and New Order’s guitarist since 2001 – and drummer Jeff Friedl, who plays for Devo.

Newly signed to Mute, ShadowParty’s debut – recorded in Boston, LA, Manchester and, of course, Macclesfield – is an album that nods to those groups but exists in its own right entirely, an indie electro album with guitars and strings, and guests including the incomparable vocalist Denise Johnson (Primal Scream, A Certain Ratio) and The Verve’s revered guitarist Nick McCabe.

Also crashing the party is LA-based DJ Whitney Fierce, who appears on backing vocals, and Joe Duddell, the Manchester-based arranger who has lent his orchestral finesse to the likes of Elbow, Blossoms, and New Order – for whom he created and scored a 12-piece synth orchestra for a run of Manchester International Festival shows.

It's the sound of a blast. ShadowParty burst through your speakers; pulsing electronics get swept away with lush orchestrations, bold beats carved up by haunting guitars and vocals tower through each moment, whispering sweet harmonies and unspoken despair.

Amber Mark Returns With New Single 'Put You On Feat. DRAM'

AMBER MARK
RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE
‘PUT YOU ON FEAT. DRAM’
SET TO SUPPORT LEON BRIDGES ON AUTUMN UK + EU TOUR
Image
“Relationship woes never sounded this sexy” – Pitchfork

“Amber Mark’s work is imbued with sounds from around the world” – The Guardian

“Amber Mark is already making a big impact” – DIY

Today sees stunning New York-based singer/songwriter/producer Amber Mark return with infectious new single ‘Put You On’ featuring Virginia native rapper/singer DRAM via PMR/Virgin Records. The brand-new single from one of 2018’s hottest talents oozes East Coast sensibilities and summer vibes, all the while displaying Amber’s trademark husky vocal tones and sublime pop melodies. ‘Put Me On Feat. DRAM’ is available to stream and purchase on DSPs from HERE.

Discussing how the track came together, Amber reveals, “The idea of the song came from wanting to talk about a woman who made it out of the hood in NY and into the top of success. Cardi B was really blowing up at the time and I thought a similar story to hers would be such a vibe for the production. The beat sounded so much like summer in NY and I figured it would be dope to lyrically make a subtle NY anthem.”

‘Put You On Feat. DRAM’ is the follow up to Amber’s critically acclaimed ‘Conexão’ EP, released back in May, which found Amber weaving her extensive knowledge of international styles into a gorgeous musical tapestry embracing everything from slinky soul to Brazilian bossa nova. Upon release NME professed, “honest, eloquent and impossibly talented, Amber Mark is a breath of fresh air” while Pitchfork praised the EP as a “remarkably accomplished. Even at just four songs, Amber Mark sounds like a veteran of pop songcraft and performance”. Nowhere is this more evident than on the EP’s imperious lead single ‘Love Me Right’, a flawless indicator of Amber’s skills as both a songwriter and a producer, or
or on the Sade-approved cut ‘Love Is Stronger Than Pride’.

Having blown crowds away in the spring at her sold out headline show at Camden Assembly in support of her ‘Conexão’ EP, Amber will return to these shores for a run of dates in support of Leon Bridges in the autumn when she joins him on his European tour. Full details of these shows can be found below with tickets available from here: https://www.gigsandtours.com/tour/leon-bridges/

Fleet Foxes Release Short Film for "I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar"

Fleet Foxes Release Short Film for
"I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar"
Directed By Sean Pecknold in Partnership With WeTransfer

Fleet Foxes have released a stunning short film for their Crack-Up album opener "I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar". Directed by Sean Pecknold, with art direction and production design by Adi Goodrich, both of Sing-Sing, and choreography by Steve Reker. The film was shot entirely on 35mm film in southern California, creating a look that feels like an old technicolor movie, with everything hand-made and in-camera. It was made in partnership with WeTransfer who commissioned and helped produce the video. WeTransfer will be hosting the video on their editorial platform WePresent alongside a conversation between the Pecknold siblings Robin (lead-singer), Sean (filmmaker) and Aja (band manager) who have shaped the visuals, sounds and story of Fleet Foxes for a decade. Watch the video and conversation HERE and at Youtube.

On making the film, director Sean Pecknold says, "For me, the song encapsulated the themes and feelings of the whole record like an overture; the darkness / lightness, the fast / slow, the tension between two competing voices and the unpredictable dynamic shifts of tempo and voice. I wanted to create a striking visual allegory that felt both intimate and lonely, grand and triumphant."

"With the film I wanted to visualize the struggle within the song through the story of a fictional character trying to escape from his house and reach an ever elusive mythical place only to be brought back to the start by the pull of a mysterious red cube. At the start of the film it's as if we have happened upon a man tired from a repetitive struggle that has been going on for weeks, months, even years. There becomes a frustrating sense of repetition as he attempts to reach these metaphorical end goals and fails time after time. It's something I can relate to, and hopefully others can too."

"I Am All That I Need / Arroyo Seco / Thumbprint Scar"" is one of the highlights on Fleet Foxes' most recent release was the critically acclaimed full-length, Crack-Up, released June 2017 on Nonesuch. Following a six-year hiatus, the band delivered an internationally beloved full-length album, sold out notable venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl, performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert as well as CBS This Morning, and earned year-end recognition from Esquire, Consequence of Sound, Paste, Uproxx, Vulture, and more.

Eleanor Friedberger premieres video for "Are We Good?" via Consequence of Sound

ELEANOR FRIEDBERGER PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “ARE WE GOOD” TODAY VIA CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
Eleanor Touring Across America This Month!

“Eleanor Friedberger has set herself apart as one of indie rock’s sharpest narrators. With “Rebound,” her fourth solo LP, Ms. Friedberger swerves toward New Romantic balladry, with echoes of the ’80s goth disco in Greece that gave the album its name.” --New York Times

“Friedberger’s finest solo album to date...Supple, elastic, and in forward motion, it loses nothing in translation.” - Mojo

Eleanor Friedberger released her new album, Rebound, on Frenchkiss Records this past May. Today, she’s premiered a brand new video for album standout “Are We Good” via Consequence of Sound.  Click HERE to watch it.

Friedberger will also be hitting the road this month for a nationwide tour in support ofRebound, which was released to rapturous response in the spring.  Tour dates are listed below.
Rebound is the incredible next step in a lauded, brilliant recording career by one of the most prolific, daring independent artists of our time.  From her days spent in The Fiery Furnaces, creating melodically off-kilter, idiosyncratic mini-epics, to her three acclaimed previous solo albums, Eleanor Friedberger continues to create exactly what we need to hear when we need to hear it.  Always anchored by her plaintive, velvety alto, and Dylan-esque lyrical treatises, Rebound is Eleanor at her very best, and a welcome addition to her rich, celebrated catalogue.
Director Gil Kenan on the video:

“ARE WE GOOD? got me hooked the first time I heard Eleanor perform it - a fragment made up of fragments. The imagery in the video is picking up on that theme, the arpeggiating rhythm, and giving shape to it on screen. The process of creating the video was nearly stream of consciousness. My wife Eliza and I sat down at her studio with a roll of green paper and cut out shapes. I animated some of them, made some props, and Eliza created a dress (or 2/3 of one) for Eleanor to wear. There's a pretty version of the video that is all green-screen, without the chromakey, but it's too risky to release it... someone could go rogue and composite wacky animal bloopers all over Eleanor.”

Irmin Schmidt (CAN) Announces New Album "5 Klavierstücke"; Listen to "Klavierstücke III"

IRMIN SCHMIDT (CAN)

ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM OF PIANO PIECES

5 KLAVIERSTÜCKE
RELEASED NOVEMBER 16 ON MUTE
Photo: Diane Zillmer
IRMIN SCHMIDT has announced 5 Klavierstücke, an album of five piano pieces recorded last year by the influential composer, musician and founder of Can. 5 Klavierstücke is out on Mute in conjunction with Spoon Records on November 16. The album – which will be available on vinyl, CD and digital formats – coincides with events centered around his works occurring later this year including the Braunschweig International Film Festival and the Volksbühne in Berlin.

Pre-order 5 Klavierstücke and listen to “Klavierstück III” here.

Irmin Schmidt explains, “The tracks are spontaneous meditations, only played once and recorded simultaneously – no edits or corrections. They are formed from an emotional memory in which Schubert, Cage, Japan (Gagaku) and Can are equally present.”

5 Klavierstücke, was recorded and produced by Gareth Jones in the South of France on Irmin Schmidt's two grand pianos. Schmidt partly prepared his Pleyel piano, in the way he was taught by John Cage himself,  and the other piano – Schmidt’s 100-year-old Steinway – remained unprepared. Several pieces were recorded in one session on the prepared piano only, others contain recordings from both pianos. All ambient sounds were recorded on site – around Schmidt's studio – and there are no other instruments or electronics of any kind.

As a composer and as one of Can’s founding members, Schmidt has scored more than one hundred soundtracks. Outside of his work with Can, he has released over a dozen solo albums and written an opera, Gormenghast, based on the novels of Mervyn Peake. In 2015, he was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to art and culture, one of France’s highest honors. In 2018, Faber Social published Can – All Gates Open, a two part book – the first section is Can’s biography, written by Rob Young, and the second section is Can Kiosk, a collage of diary entries and interviews edited and written by Irmin Schmidt.

The work of Schmidt will be a large part of Braunschweig’s International Film Festival this autumn, with events including a retrospective of his work for film. Schmidt will also present two new compositions for orchestra he wrote in collaboration with Gregor Schwellenbach: Can Dialog – featuring motifs from Can, which premiered at London’s Barbican in 2017 – and the suite Filmmusiken – an orchestration of several of Schmidt’s soundtracks. Later this year, the Volksbühne in Berlin will honor Can’s work with a performance of Can Dialog and Filmmusiken. Further details below.

This is Irmin Schmidt’s first solo release since Electro Violet – a collection of his entire solo work – in 2015.

Low have extended their international tour schedule in support of Double Negative with the announcement of new U.K. and European dates for 2019. The newly added dates begin January 29th, 2019 in Glasgow at Tramway and run through February 14th in Stockholm in Kagelbanan (Small Room).

The 15-date U.K. and European run will include stops in Brighton, London, Hamburg, Oslo, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Gothenburg.
These dates follow Low’s previously announced 2018 North American, U.K. and European tour schedule, which begins with a three-night stand at National Sawdust in New York City on September 19th-21st and ends November 17th in Madison at the High Noon Saloon.

And starting today, September 6th, NPR Music’s “First Listen” is now streaming Double Negative in its entirety.

NPR Music’s Stephen Thompson offers this on the band’s new album, ”For a band so often defined by apparent strictures on its sound, Low has proven incredibly versatile. Throughout a catalog that spans 12 studio albums, another dozen or so EPs, a Christmas record that's justly become a classic, and countless one-offs, it's upended its formulas constantly while still sounding unmistakably like itself. On the new Double Negative, those patterns hold true amid Low's most radical reinvention yet...Low throws itself into what often sounds like an inversion of its classic sound. "Quorum" opens Double Negative with static-scarred loops that curdle and crunch menacingly, setting a fresh scene with maximum efficiency: This is the sound of beauty as it's distorted to the point of disintegration [listen here].”

Pre-orders of Double Negative through megamart.subpop.com and select independent retailers will receive the limited Loser Edition on crystal clear vinyl with an enclosed full-color flat of the album’s front cover artwork (while supplies last).

What people are saying about Double Negative:
“Low have never made a record quite so jarring and jagged, but Double Negative pushes beyond their own catalogue. Low have made what might be their most relevant album, one that holds a mirror up to the world.” [9/10, “Album of the Month”] - Uncut
