NYC dream-pop artist gemini rose has announced her deeply vulnerable debut album, in between, arriving on November 13. Today she has shared the third single from it, the intoxicating "Indigo."
Produced by Anthony Lopardo, in between is a sonic landscape born in the quiet isolation of a bedroom. Trying not to disturb a troubled home environment, gemini rose wrote the album under the warm, grainy glow of her lamp light. To her, the project feels visually and emotionally wrapped in shades of purple, blue, and pink. The record masterfully captures a bittersweet collision of guilt, sadness, and undeniable passion, deeply exploring the agony of being caught between two worlds and navigating the complex emotions of loving someone while letting go of the past.
Musically, the album represents a natural, organic evolution. gemini rose, who considers herself a writer first and a musician second, brought acoustic chords, lyrics, and raw melodies to Lopardo, who helped guide the tracks into an immersive dream-pop reality. Anchored by reverb-drenched guitar tones, lo-fi electronic textures, and lush, stacked vocal harmonies, the production deliberately keeps the focus exactly where it belongs: on the weight of the lyrics.
While the album serves as a singular, cohesive diary, it also features pivotal collaborations that mirror its real-life complexity. On the opening track "hey.," gemini rose teams up with nia, who co-wrote, composed, and provided vocals to beautifully capture the painful, initial distance that can grow within a relationship. Later in the tracklist, "firelight café" features an intimate guest appearance from KAYTHEWAVE, who lent her vocals and penned an evocative section of the song's lyrics.
Framing the entire album are the contrasting pillars of "hey.” and "bye.," with the rest of the tracklist sandwiched in between them, creating a cyclical narrative. While "hey.” marks the start of emotional distance, the closing track "bye.” completes a deliberate sonic loop. Engineered to transition seamlessly right back into "hey.," the album is designed to be played on a continuous repeat, mirroring the cyclical nature of gemini rose’s emotional world, past tendencies, and the feeling of history repeating itself.
