Caroline Polachek & SebastiAn, the final single ahead of her third album INSTINCT, out October 16 via GGL Records / Sony Music. The track premiered today, September 29, as Hottest Record on Jack Saunders’ New Music Show on BBC Radio 1, accompanied by a joint interview with Angèle and Caroline Polachek. “Love Triangle” was released at the same time today. Produced by SebastiAn, co-produced by Angèle and longtime collaborator Tristan Salvati, recorded in Brussels and mixed by 20-time Grammy winner Serban Ghenea, “Love Triangle” pushes INSTINCT further into the club. Built around a propulsive electronic pulse, the track moves between tension, desire and jealousy, with Angèle singing in English and Caroline Polachek moving between French and English — a rare departure from her usual English-language work. Their voices circle around each other throughout the song before landing on its central confession: “Nothing scares me more than a love triangle.” As Angèle explains: “This song first came from a conversation I overheard at a dinner in Brussels. Some friends were debating the particularities of a love triangle, and I remember being completely captivated by their stories. I wrote ‘Love Triangle’ down on a little piece of paper under the table. I later met SebastiAn in the studio in Paris and we listened to some demos together. As soon as I heard the first notes of this completely crazy arpeggio, I remember thinking that this was exactly the direction I wanted to take. Within a few hours of working with SebastiAn and Tristan, the first version of ‘Love Triangle’ started to emerge — that wild arpeggio, club sounds and an almost anthemic chorus. The words ‘Love Triangle’ came back to me, and this production felt like the perfect space to explore desire, choice, projection and fear. Inviting Caroline Polachek onto the track felt obvious. I had crossed paths with her several times and I’ve been a huge fan of her work, going back to her Chairlift days. I wanted to give another woman a voice in response to the first part of the story. When she arrived at the makeshift studio we had set up in a house, I was once again struck by her presence and her beauty. Hearing her sing that melody moved me immediately. We had fun telling the story from her point of view and writing what came next. That’s when the song really made sense. ‘All I ever wanted was both of you’ eventually meets ‘Nothing scares me more than a love triangle’. We were interested in that contradiction: wanting to experience everything, feel everything, keep everything, while knowing that love sometimes means letting go. The song plays with the boundary between reality and fantasy. You never completely know whether what is happening is actually being lived or simply imagined. SebastiAn’s presence allows the desire to become almost instinctive, something that moves forward like an obsession. And Caroline’s voice, both airy and powerful, brings something almost supernatural to the music. The triangle exists musically too: three worlds, three voices, three sensibilities coming together. I love that ‘Love Triangle’ is sexy, pop and slightly funny on the surface, while underneath it deals with something much more universal: attachment, losing control and the fear of ending up heartbroken. But my heart is at its happiest — I couldn’t have dreamed of a better collaboration.” Caroline Polachek says: “While recording ‘Love Triangle’ in a house in Hollywood, Angèle and I discovered that as teenagers we’d both performed at the same jazz bar in Brussels, L’Archiduc. Somehow it makes total sense that we’re meeting here on the other side now, the hard sexy electro side, where we’re slithering around these bilingual whispered verses, almost without singing at all…” The collaboration also brings together two artists whose paths had already crossed in New York. In March 2022, Polachek was opening for Dua Lipa at Madison Square Garden when Angèle made a surprise appearance during “Fever”, their collaboration with Dua Lipa. Four years later, the two met again in Los Angeles to record “Love Triangle” together. The track’s production gives the song its sleek, physical edge, with SebastiAn’s electronic approach pushing INSTINCT further into its club-oriented territory, while Polachek’s voice introduces a new dimension to the album’s increasingly international world. Across the singles released so far, Angèle has explored different sides of the instinct that gives the album its name. “Dis-Le” was about speaking up; “Une Seule Vie” about making a choice and moving forward. “Love Triangle” turns instead towards desire and the loss of control that can come with it. As the album’s final single, “Love Triangle” also closes a circle that began with “What You Want” feat. Justice, bringing the campaign back to the dancefloor. |

Written and recorded over three years between Paris, Brussels, New York, Rome and Spain, among others, and marks a new chapter in her songwriting, including her first fully English-language songs. The album features collaborations with Justice, Soulwax, Caroline Polachek and SebastiAn, with contributions from Elvira Anderfjärd, Luka Kloser, Oscar Holter and Oscar Scheller. The visual world of INSTINCT has also been shaped in collaboration with (LA)HORDE, the multidisciplinary collective of Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel, who have worked with Angèle across the project’s visual and choreographic direction. Known internationally for their work with artists including Rosalía, Madonna and Sam Smith, and for directing the Ballet national de Marseille since 2019, (LA)HORDE has developed a creative dialogue with Angèle that began with the “What You Want” video feat. Justice and continues throughout the INSTINCT era. Their work brings together choreography, film and visual art to build a visual language around the album’s exploration of movement, desire and instinct. The album’s international campaign has already seen Angèle cover Vanity Fair France, Vanity Fair Italia and T Mag Germany. In 2027, she will take INSTINCT on tour across Europe and North America, with more than 100,000 tickets sold within hours of going on sale.
