Photo credit: Issebya ANIQO is the musical project of Berlin and Lisbon-based singer-songwriter and visual artist Anita Goß. Her songs move between dark art pop, spiritual folk and cinematic songwriting. Like pages from a forgotten book, they open up universal questions and invite listeners to relate them to their own lives. They explore themes such as longing for the unknown, transformation, devotion and the power of letting go. Today ANIQO is sharing new single "THE TURN", which was produced by Bill Ryder-Jones and is out now via La Double Vie. On the track ANIQO said "I’ve often had moments in my life where I thought: I can’t go on like this - something needs to change. So for me, 'THE TURN' is about the moment after realisation, when something inside you shifts and you know that the next step has to be taken - even if it feels risky at first. It’s about setting out, overcoming fear, but also about consciously saying yes to what you love. It’s about taking the plunge and believing that something will open up once you start moving and let go." ANIQO’s voice leads the "THE TURN": clear, direct, sensitive and determined all at once. She takes the listener by the hand, breaks through the fear and carries the track forwards. The guitar on which Anita Goß wrote the song remains, symbolically, a light house. Played by ANIQO’s guitarist Torsten Füchsel and enriched with further psychedelic elements, it appears like a light on the horizon, pointing the way. Bill Ryder- Jones’s arrangements open the track up; strings lift the song and give it a cinematic depth. In the chorus, the song shifts into immediacy: “We are ready, it’s time for The Turn.” The inner child as a compass —the voice one finally trusts. The video for the song was filmed on a sailing boat in the Atlantic off the coast of Portugal. ANIQO directed and edited it herself; cinematography is by James Harvey. Between waves, wind and an open horizon, the video translates the song’s central movement into images: letting go, setting out, daring to make the turn. It becomes a metaphor for a state between loss of control and freedom. Her songs do not rush toward resolution - they remain within the emotional weather of change.  ANIQO recorded her first songs in Los Angeles in 2017 with musician Joe Cardamone (The Icarus Line), but released only a handful of them, held back by a fear of fully revealing herself. Still, her tracks quickly found an audience, including the indie-pop track ‘New Signs’ feat. Giant Drag singer Annie Hardy. Her music videos, including ‘Chess’, were also featured on the website of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Her first fully realised album followed several years later. Recorded in Berlin in 2020 with jazz and analogue recording specialist Guy Sternberg, ‘BIRTH’ was released in 2022 via SPRINGSTOFF and received international attention as well as outstanding reviews, including from Rolling Stone Germany, Clash and Wonderland. In 2025, she released the stand-alone single "The Call" alongside a remix by trip-hop legend Howie B on the artist-run label La Double Vie. ANIQO is currently preparing the release of her forthcoming album, produced with Bill Ryder-Jones in England. It marks a turn toward grounding, resilience and acceptance. It is an album for soft-strong hearts - about love in its seasons, its elements and all its variations.
