(April 17, 2026) - Enigmatic DMV-via-NYC rapper and producer Kuru releases their sophomore album Backstage hologram via deadAir Records. The new album includes previously-released singles "FW19" and last week's "Noir kei" and features guests Xaviersobased, Lucy Bedroque and katmoji. Alongside the album, Kuru is also sharing a new music video for album cut "Pray for...", directed by Poortfolios.

Backstage hologram crystallizes the distinct strain of digitized underground hip-hop that Kuru has honed over the course of their burgeoning solo career. It's a capstone project that singularly marries technoromantic flair, IDM inspirations and an inherent gift for writing captivating hooks and sharp regional DMV flows.

Tomorrow, Kuru will begin their co-headlining sold out North American tour with Lucy Bedroque in Seattle. The tour will stretch across April and May, including back-to-back sold-out shows in LA at Echoplex and The Roxy respectively and Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Kuru has always stood out amongst their peers as an artist with remarkably refined songwriting uncommon to most self-taught musicians of their age. They first began making music in 2019, garnering buzz with early tracks like "clueless", "typo", and "resolve" -- autonomously realized songs, presented as rapid Soundcloud drops. With recent releases like "2door", "my Baddd", and "wakeup" finding their own success', along with Kuru's production scattered across xaviersobased's acclaimed project Xavier, it is apparent Kuru has no intention of slowing down. Their collaborative efforts comprise a rolodex of Soundcloud's most cutting-edge producers, along with artists like Lucy Bedroque, jane Remover, xaviersobased, and Hi-C. In addition to music, their passion for the arts extends equidistant into fashion, having modeled for Yasuyuki Ishii, as documented by British Vogue.

After finishing high school early, they had foregone the pursuit of an audio engineering degree in order to focus on their career as an artist full-time. Instead, Kuru moved to NYC upon graduation from high school and partnered with longtime affiliate deadAir. Together they released the debut album re:wired in 2024. The project earned them praise from Pitchfork, with the outlet hailing it as "a panic room crammed with miseries, victories, betrayals, realizations, and music so dreamy it somehow sounds idyllic." The freewheeling “Stay True Forever” followed the next year, a tape that acted as a bridge between their debut and sophomore album, further refining their sound and setting the stage for Backstage hologram.
