Today, Louisiana band Cashier are excited to share their debut EP, The Weight, available everywhere now, via Julia’s War Recordings. The Lafayette-based four-piece set out to make a major statement on their first offering of songs, with bandleader Kylie Gaspard’s tight melodies and cutting lyrics breaking through walls of sound. Across six songs, the group lays down urgently emotional moments of catharsis and memorable riffs that give ‘heavy rock’ a new meaning.
“There is a general sense of longing throughout the songs. Feeling like something is always off, or like you’re driving someone/something away. Yearning for what you missed because of your own choices through life, and a sense of disconnect from the reality that could have been,” Kylie says of the new EP. “I feel like most of the themes carry different types of weight for me or someone listening who may feel a sense of connection with the heaviness of life.”
LISTEN TO THE WEIGHT
At the beginning of the year, Cashier signed to Julia’s War Recordings and announced their imminent debut EP. Known for their shoegaze roots, the band takes a slightly different approach on the upcoming project, laying precise guitar work and honest songwriting on top of their dense sound. Heralding the announcement, "Like I Do" searches for answers among driving riffs and strong vocals. They also shared an official visualizer for the lead single, filmed throughout previous tours across the U.S. Cashier was recently named one of the “Most Exciting Rising Artists of 2026” by Alternative Press, who praised their “deliriously good rock songs.”
“Part From Me” arrived last month, in which urgent guitars unfurl as Kylie’s powerful vocals break through walls of sound. Capturing the back and forth of a strained relationship, the four-piece approach faulty connections with hard-edged but lush riffs. An official music video for the track features the band drenched in psychedelic graphics as they tear through the new single and go through their daily lives. Final single “The Weight” captures the bittersweetness found in the passage of time, with soaring guitars soundtracking the heavy feeling of being alive. “I feel the weight now / Of falling out of line / And it feels the same now / As calling out,” Kylie sings over driving drums and whirling riffs, grounding the track into direct emotional catharsis.
