A standout of 2025, Montreal-based singer-songwriter Brigitte Naggar (aka Common Holly) is sharing her new EP, They will draw halos around our heads, today via Keeled Scales and Paper Bag Records.
Following last year’s critically acclaimed LP, Anything glass, Naggar expands upon her gentle, delicate, and whimsical universe with a collection that highlights her signature introspective and perceptive lyricism, evocative vocals, and soft, understated instrumentation.
After the charming lead single “Dyson”—a playful, lighthearted ode to waiting for her vacuum cleaner—Naggar now unveils the EP’s title track, “They will draw halos around our heads.”
“This is the title track for the EP, which is one of the few that I performed with my band. I wanted to direct attention to this song because it is in no way attention grabbing on its own, but I also feel like it’s the one I like most," Naggar shares.
"I think it’s an exploration of the projections that get cast onto girls and women to embody the highest moral standard, the picture of perfect angels. And it’s about the receptive position of the impressionable child, the way messaging leaves deep imprints on how they experience the world. Maybe it’s also a kind of call to reclaim, for them to take their brains and bodies back and determine for themselves what they believe in.”
Featuring twinkling wind chimes, plucked strings, and hushed, achingly tender vocals, “They will draw halos around our heads” is a moment of pure Common Holly magic—ethereal, intimate, and quietly transportive. A quiet force, Common Holly creates immersive sonic worlds that invite listeners to slow down and consider a gentler perspective—one that reminds us of what truly matters.
They will draw halos around our heads is out on February 27th via Keeled Scales and Paper Bag Records. |
