Brooklyn rock band Local Weatherman is excited to share the second preview of their new EP, Right One, available January 16, 2026, via emerging tape label, Karol Records. Out today, “Weighing” captures the band at their most urgent and emotionally raw, balancing grit and melody as lyrics like “Weighing down on me / The fantasy” shine down over distorted guitars.
“‘Weighing’ is about feeling lost and recognizing that things need to change,” songwriter and guitarist Ford Murphy says. “This song started out on classical guitar and evolved into something much dreamier once we started playing it together as a band. When we recorded this song we probably laid down 40 tracks of guitar, and tried to lean into a more layered, guitar-pedal-y vibe while still keeping our sound.”

Local Weatherman announced the incoming record with “Thread,” which follows a search for identity through unraveling threads of anxiety, ample riffage, and heavy hooks. The Ugly Hug praised the single, saying, “Crammed with punchy riffs and metaphors of disastrous failed sewing attempts, ‘Thread’ is a full throttle track slated to stick with much longer than three minutes and twenty-three seconds.” Last year, the band returned with “The Hole,” which chronicles the fall into a pit of hopelessness and the descent into a directionless time of life, but sounds as anthemic and upbeat as ever, with frenetic drums and turbulent riffs.

Local Weatherman shared their eponymous debut album in 2023, which features fan favorite tracks “Bad” and Guns.” Extremely catchy, emo-tinged songs emerged from the record, cementing the band as a local favorite in Brooklyn’s ever-evolving rock scene and DIY scenes across the East Coast.
The Brooklyn band has played shows with genre contemporaries like Starcleaner Reunion, Bedridden, Sun Organ, and more, cutting their teeth in the East Coast DIY scene. Later this month, they’ll headline Brooklyn DIY venue Rubulad with The Alabasters, Self-Help, and Astro Nick for their annual holiday show on December 13. More shows will be announced soon.
