Annabelle Chairlegs, the moniker of Austin based singer-songwriter Lindsey Mackin, today has shared her new single “Heavy Sleeper”, the third preview of her upcoming Ty Segall-produced album, Waking Up, due out January 30th via TODO. The track is a fever dream of fuzz-laden guitars and surf rock influenced textures. It features Mackin’s powerful, grungy vocals navigating the blurred border between dreams and nightmares, accompanied by an eye-catching Colin Shields-directed music video.
Speaking of the track, Mackin says “Heavy Sleeper is the nightmare that exists in and out of sleep. We are fully free in our sleep- as we also actually are when we are awake, so which is where we are? Is it a nightmare or is it a dream?”
“Heavy Sleeper” follows previous singles "Concrete Trees", a poignant tribute to a late friend, and "Ice Cream On The Beach" which received praise and support from Brooklyn Vegan, KUTX, Clunk Magazine, FEMMUSIC, The Panic Manual, She Makes Music, The Autumn Roses, The Jersey Sound, Mystic Sons, and more.
On Waking Up, which was produced and recorded by Ty Segall in Topanga, CA, with Nick Cornetti on drums and Derek Strahan on bass, Mackin finds herself exploring grittier, more mechanical textures, while maintaining her knack for blissful hooks and melodies. Following two self-released records, Waking Up marks Chairlegs’ third full-length release, and her first for TODO, ushering in a bold new chapter for the Austin mainstay.
The album will be available digitally and on LP, with the vinyl edition featuring two bonus tracks, "I Feel So Mad" and "Beef Witted".
