August 6, 2025 - Italian-American jazz vocalist and composer Niia has announced V, a daring and bold new modern jazz album that cements her as one of today’s most fearless and innovative vocalists via the iconic Candid Records. V is Niia’s most personal and genre-defying work to date, and a sharp, soulful exploration of modern desire, heartbreak, and freedom. It’s a pivotal moment in Niia’s career, the culmination of years spent experimenting at the intersection of tradition and reinvention. Produced with Spencer Zahn - known for his blending of jazz, ambient, and modern classical composition into lush exploratory soundscapes (see Pigments with Dawn Richards) and Lawrence Rothman - the genre-blending producer and songwriter (see Angel Olsen, Margo Price, Kim Gordon, Kali Uchis, SASAMI, and Soccer Mommy) V is a full circle moment for the artist as she returns to her roots, her first love and true love, Jazz. It is the jazz-trained singer’s answer to a question that has lingered for her in recent years: “What does a modern Jazz singer sound like?” The album is out October 10. PRE-ORDER HERE.
To launch this defining new chapter, Niia has released two electrifying singles, “Throw My Head Out The Window,” and “Ronny Cammareri.” Together, the tracks offer a glimpse into the layered musicianship, shifting styles, and emotional depth that define the record.
"Throw My Head Out the Window” falls into a distinct niche within modern jazz with diamond-sharp hooks with driving, simmering rhythm and surges of synth. Written by Niia, Zahn, Rothman, and powerhouse songwriter Chloe Angelides, it’s a heady rush of liberation and beauty. “Not a care in the world and I’m so beautiful. Throw my head out the window where nobody goes.” It captures a moment of pure honesty, riding free in emotion all alone for a moment there is peace. Featuring new wave jazz boundary pushers bassist Anna Butterss and Nicole McCabe on saxophone, the song’s sonic palette is as bold as its message. LISTEN AND WATCH (Visualizer)
“Ronny Cammareri” takes its title from Nicolas Cage’s Moonstruck character. “I love Moonstruck, it’s a perfect film.I feel a lot like Ronny who is chaos, passion and fate - love that makes no sense but changes everything,” she says. The instrumental track rides a slow-burning groove, with Niia almost lazil scat singing the melody in unison with the horn. The track is at the forefront of modern jazz, bringing elements of traditional and experimental together with Benny Bock (Sam Wilkes, Sam Gendel, Feist) on keys multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez (The War On Drugs, Beirut, St. Vincent) on horns.
In July, Niia released her take on the beloved 1946 jazz standard “Angel Eyes” LISTEN. The single offers her own emotionally raw, minimal, and intimate version featuring just her voice and Benny Bock on piano, produced by Spencer Zahn whose production bridges vintage elegance with modern warmth. The track is reimagined without nostalgia—bare, exposed, and emotionally raw. It’s a thrilling first glimpse of what’s yet to come in the next chapter of Niia’s artistic evolution. This is the sound of a modern day jazz singer. WATCH “ANGEL EYES VIDEO”
