(May 9th, 2025) - 7-piece band Racing Mount Pleasant announces its self-titled debut album coming this Summer via R&R. The band first met and began making music together as teenagers in Michigan under the name Kingfisher, releasing one beguiling album titled Grip Your First, I’m Heaven Bound in 2022. Now, the band is resolutely introducing themselves as Racing Mount Pleasant, having started the year opening a show for Cameron Winter in Chicago and releasing their debut single “Call It Easy” last month. This new chapter for the band reveals a refined vision for themselves as a septet and conjures an expansive new sound
They’re peeling back the curtain of their debut with the eponymous new single “Racing Mount Pleasant” also out today. The sprawling new single marks the perfect opening statement for the band. It’s a song that is packed to the brim with ideas from each of the band’s seven members, with sweeping deluges of guitars, drums and saxophones, and a showcase of breakout chorus moments from several vocalists throughout its 5-minute run time.
Tonight, the band will make their headline debut in Chicago at Epiphany, followed on May 28th by a New York City date at Nightclub 101. Tickets are available HERE.
Racing Mount Pleasant began as a group of friends and like-minded musicians in Ann Arbor anchored at a single creative house that various members of the band have frequented and to this day, continue to live in near the University of Michigan. After an early album and smattering of songs under the Kingfisher, the band reimagined themselves as Racing Mount Pleasant, building and arranging a debut album that’s rooted in an academic discipline and mastery of their instruments and arrangements, while simultaneously taking a battering ram to traditional conventions. Racing Mount Pleasant demanded to stand alone as a new chapter for the group, and it’s coming.
