(14 March) Today, Bristol-formed, London-based outfit Oslo Twins release new EP 'Tresor' via Half-Normal Records. The band celebrate the release of the new EP tonight with a headline show at Supersonic in Paris.
Produced by band members Eric C. Davies and Claudia Vulliamy in their east London studio, new EP 'Tresor' follows keen airplay from BBC 6 Music (Nick Grimshaw) and glowing press support from tastemakers including NME Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, Far Out Magazine, 1883 Magazine, Under The Radar Magazine and more.
The new EP highlights a rejuvenated sonic depth for Oslo Twins - drawing influence from Nation Of Language, Angel Olsen, This Mortal Coil, Everything But The Girl, Lamb, Chromatics, Grace Ives and Ladytron. Exploring new territories both in their recorded sound and live performances, new EP 'Tresor' introduces electronic drums and clean synths to the forefront, venturing into more expansive territory.
From the thudding and transportive 'I Wake Up Slowly', to the chilling synth-pop of 'Sally' and the towering electronics of 'I See Mountains', singer Claudia expands on the EP's lyrical themes:
"I think there’s a running theme of subconscious places in this EP. I was inspired by things seen and felt in dreams and daydreams, images that come to mind for a moment and are just out of reach".
The previously unheard 'Be Free' is another song inspired by Claudia's literal dreams. "There's also inspiration drawn from a strangely romantic fantasy of having to drive off somewhere after committing a crime, leaving everything behind. To get a sense of this narrative I wanted a quiet sense of drama in the sound, with a slightly funereal tone that I think we managed to get with the timpani and synths."
EP opener and title track 'Tresor' sets the scene, finding the band caught in a lightning storm en route to the EP's titular nightclub:
"We wrote the song in a jam, so pretty much all of the lyrics were improvised. I was imagining surreal and funny party scenes, and then the sounds that Eric and Ed were creating made me think of a night out I had in Berlin when I was 19, when my friends and I got caught in a lightning storm on the way to the nightclub Tresor. There were massive bolts against the sky every few minutes and it somehow set an exciting, electric tone for the whole night."
Led by songwriters Claudia Vulliamy and Eric C. Davies, completed by Ed Lyness and Luke Brown, since their formation Oslo Twins have taken the London and Bristol live music scenes by storm, supporting acts such as The Last Dinner Party, Blondshell, The Comet Is Coming, English Teacher, THUS LOVE amongst others, and performing at festivals including Green Man, Manchester Psych Fest, Sŵn Festival, They’re Gonna Be Big (Supersonic, Paris), and Dot to Dot.
Releasing their debut EP 'Back To Nothing' via producer Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, Squirrel Flower)’s Fascination Street Records in 2023, Oslo Twins have since received notable support from BBC 6 Music DJs Steve Lamacq, Nick Grimshaw, Huw Stephens, Guy Garvey, and Amy Lamé, alongside glowing press tips from influential tastemakers NME Magazine, So Young Magazine, The Independent, Wonderland Magazine, DIY Magazine, The Rodeo, CLASH Magazine, Whynow, Rough Trade, The Line Of Best Fit, Far Out Magazine and more.
