Today, Maribou State — the duo of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory — release their highly anticipated new album Hallucinating Love via Ninja Tune. Listen to Hallucinating Love here.
Hallucinating Love arrives shortly after the release of recent singles “All I Need” (featuring MOBO-nominated artist Andreya Triana, who’s previously worked with the likes of Bonobo, Flying Lotus, and Jungle), “Dance on the World,” “Bloom,” and “Otherside,” featuring long-time collaborator and vocalist Holly Walker.
The tracks received widespread support from the likes of Pitchfork, NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, and Mixmag. In detailing the duo in a recent feature, Billboard noted that the album “has emerged as their most thematic and sonically cohesive record to date. Their sound, which fuses psych-rock, funk, retro-soul and banging beats, is warmer, looser and more attention-grabbing than anything before.”
The album marks a triumphant and poignant moment for the band, who have been through a challenging few years in which Chris received a rare diagnosis for a condition called chiari malformation that causes pressure on the brain. After pausing recording and touring in 2021, he underwent surgery in November 2023, from which he has only just begun to return to the studio and rehearsals full time. The experience has brought Maribou State — friends since their teens back in Hertfordshire, just outside of London — close like never before. The album, keenly titled Hallucinating Love, is imbued with a special warmth.
Maribou State also recently announced a massive North American tour for Spring 2025, their first full band live dates on the continent in six years with stops in New York, Boston, Chicago, Toronto, and many more. See all the dates below and find tickets here.
Due to overwhelming demand (which saw the first two dates sold-out in just a matter of hours) the band also recently announced an impressive third consecutive show at London’s 10k+ capacity Alexandra Palace on Sunday February 16. Previous acts to play three consecutive nights at the iconic venue in recent history include Fred Again…, Four Tet, and Dermot Kennedy. Hallucinating Love is out now, buy/stream it here.
