Murcof • Biography Murcof, born Fernando Corona in 1970 in Tijuana, Mexico, draws deep from his Mexican roots and diverse influences. His early exposure to classical music through his father and traditional Mexican sounds from his mother shaped his eclectic taste. Inspired by electronic pioneers like Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream, he began experimenting with music in the early 80s, using a Casio keyboard and exploring ambient and glitch music. In the 90s, Corona played in various bands, including Sonios, and explored electronic-acoustic fusion with projects like Elohim and Arvoles. His work with the Nortec Collective further blended electronic music with traditional Mexican elements. Murcof emerged in 2001 on Leaf Label with Martes, praised for its glitchy percussion and classical samples. Utopía (2004) and Cosmos (2007) followed, each expanding his signature sound. Murcof’s collaboration with InFiné began with the reissue of La Sangre Iluminada (2011), a soundtrack that showcased deep electronic texture and a rework of “Cómo quisiera decirte” by the Los Angeles Negroes. In 2016, he would go on to record 'Statea' with French classical pianist Vanessa Wagner, earning great acclaim. In 2022, InFiné released ‘Extended Play Vol 1’, featuring the first tracks of the Twin Color. Twin Color´s show premiered at Mutek Festival in Montreal. He live performances are represented by Folk Wisdom. |
