May 10, 2024 (Chicago, IL) - Nettwerk is thrilled to announce the signing of eclectic electronic artist/producer/DJ Shrimpnose and the release of his new lofi EP Toward Heaven. Shrimpnose (given name Riley Smithson) already knows Nettwerk well—he performed at Nettwerk’s LA Sofar Sounds showcase last October and appears on three songs on Nettwerk’s first lofi compilation album Cosmo Kuma Presents: Beatcamp, Vol. 1 - Los Angeles—but today, he makes the signing official. Shrimpnose joins omniboi, Bad Snacks, Anomalie, Ark Patrol and more in Nettwerk’s alternative electronic community.
It’s difficult to distill Shrimpnose’s sound to a few words; his latest album As It Seems incorporated elements of lofi, UK garage, post-dubstep, glitchy hyper pop and rap, to name a few. His new EP Toward Heaven, which he describes as "a pretty chill project for the chillers," is his first with Nettwerk and toes the line between laid back electronic and lofi beats. Spanning six tracks, Toward Heaven recruits fellow beatmakers Allem Iversom, Joe Nora, Somni and chief. to create a vulnerable, relaxed and electrified listening experience.
Born and raised in Minnesota and now residing in Los Angeles, Shrimpnose has amassed 25+ million plays across platforms on his robust catalog, which has included releases on LA label Friends of Friends, Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records and Blue Note/Astralwerks Records. His music has been recognized by the likes of Complex, VICE, NPR, Rinse FM, BBC, EDM.com and more.
An active touring artist, Shrimpnose has performed across the country with underground heavyweights such as TOKiMONSTA, Blockhead, XXYYXX, Purity Ring, Caspa, Giraffage, Gold Panda, and more. He also played one of the final Low End Theory nights in LA. Shrimpnose has mastered the art of keeping audiences on their toes; case in point this clip of him serenading a ready-to-rave crowd in Minneapolis with a tender lofi beat.
With a danceable electronic EP in the works as well as a performance at Shambhala—Canada’s biggest electronic music festival—lined up for the last weekend of July, it’s safe to say it's shaping up to be a Shrimpnose Summer. For now, Toward Heaven is available at digital retailers here: https://shrimpnose.ffm.to/towardheaven
