(Thursday, March 21st) - Norwegian duo Smerz return to release a new single titled “Shining Star,” out now on their label Shopping Records. On this latest track, Smerz balance euphoria and boredom as the protagonist in the song wonders whether she would be better off without her boyfriend. Listen to “Shining Star” here.
“Shining Star” is the first new music from Smerz since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album Believer (2021). In February Smerz released their collaborative project ALLINA, which was conceived with All-In Studio’s Benjamin Barron and Bror August Vestbø for their pop fantasy collection, to which Pitchfork exclaimed is “Smerz’s most unabashedly pop-oriented release yet.”
Reinvigorated by their recent foray into pop music, as heard on ALLINA and within their production contribution to NewJeans’ 2023 Get Up EP, Smerz are back in the studio working on new music. On the horizon, the duo plan to release their choir piece, which premiered at the MUNCH Museum in Oslo 2023.
