March 15, 2024—Iconic Grammy-nominated duo Chromeo—comprised of Dave 1 (Dave Macklovitch) and P-Thugg(Patrick Gemayel)—performed their song “Lost and Found” last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”—watch the episode here, which also features The Oprah Winfrey.
The song is from their long-awaited new album, Adult Contemporary, which was released last month to widespread critical acclaim. Arriving almost 20 years to the day after their debut record, Adult Contemporary marks a return to the duo’s original formula: Dave and Pee wrote, produced, performed and arranged every single song, centering on the intimacy of their partnership.
A 14-track groovy meditation on what it means to be funky in your 30s and 40s, this sixth studio album is peak Chromeo sultry sophistication. Cheeky wordplay in tow, Dave and Pee return to the electro-funk sound of their early years, augmenting it with layers of live instrumentation, lush string arrangements and slick horn sections. It’s the purest, most honest expression of the aesthetic the Funklordz have been honing for the past two decades.
Praise for Adult Contemporary
“The Canadian Electro-Funk duo Chromeo have made consistently funky, highly danceable music for twenty years…Now with their latest album, Adult Contemporary, they are challenging preconceptions of adult contemporary music by redefining its whole meaning.”
Switched on Pop
“…simply put, nobody’s doing it like the Funklordz…if Coachella was any kind of a preview, Chromeo are going bigger, bolder, and chrome-ier than before.”—Rolling Stone
“Chromeo’s Dave 1 and P-Thugg are indebted to the classics. Their irresistibly funky sound has captured both the analog-forward nostalgia of the late ’70s and early ’80s while also remaining modern and relevant.”—Consequence
“[‘Words With You’]…favorite thing the Canadian synth-funk duo has ever done.”—Stereogum
“The bond that has deepened over the past 30 years shines on their latest venture, Adult Contemporary. Their evolution from teenage friends to synth icons reflects a journey enriched by lasting camaraderie and musical innovation”—GRAMMY
“[Adult Contemporary’s] lacquered love songs do ooze a messy maturity with Macklovitch singing about fighting insomnia during a break- up and wondering if he’s becoming too codependent.”—NYLON
“…dealing in monogamy, insomnia after a breakup, abstinence, codependency, and ambiguity between situationships and friendships…the subjects were approached in a typically lighthearted way, rather than wandering too far into darkness.”—NME
“In constant contact as bandmates and best friends, P-Thugg and Dave 1 have one of those unique creative partnerships that bears the most wonderful kind of fruit: that evergreen, ever-juicy groove.”—FLAUNT
“[Adult Contemporary] sounds like two best friends having fun together, whilst also taking the time to be intimate. The record is a ‘new adult thematic adventure,’ which somehow hasn’t lost the sexiness which was so central to Chromeo back in the Fancy Footwork days.”—METAL
In celebration of the new music, Chromeo will embark on a much-anticipated international headline tour this spring, including dates in LondonParisBerlin, Scandanavia, and Mexico City. This will be followed by a sprawling North American co-headline run with The Midnight this fall—dubbed the “Chrome Nights Tour—including performances at New York’s Terminal 5, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom and more. See below for a complete tour itinerary and purchase tickets here.
Through shiny synths and sharp lyrics, Chromeo have set themselves apart as the quintessential modern funk scholars, proving time and again that no one does it quite like them. Across their six LPs, Dave 1 and P-Thugg established an 80s-infused electronic sound that has become the lingua franca of pop music. Together, the inseparable friends have toured the world over, perfecting a musical and visual language that is now instantly recognizable—and more refined than ever before.
