In the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Chrysalis’, Zanias returns with ‘Ecdysis’, which travels even further into alternate dimensions, casting off all language and song structures in favour of something far more alien and sensual. “There were times during the making of ‘Chrysalis’, a process which coincided with the total destruction of my former life, when I was struck by how moments of extreme psychological pain are so often followed by an increased acuity for the beauty that’s all around us.” – explains Alison Lewis, talking about the upcoming release of her project. Named after the final stage of emergence from a former self, ‘Ecdysis’ lays claim to an entirely new electronic soundscape influenced by the ethereal pioneering of Dead Can Dance, Enya and Fever Ray. A deep dive into this experience at my family home in Queensland, Australia, after a particularly difficult loss. “I wanted to distil the feeling of standing in the rainforest alone at night, the vibrations of diverse and ancient life reminding me of what I’m made of, reminding me what 'eternity' truly means”.
Zanias’ voice morphs deftly between species and gender, exemplifying the oneness of conscious experience evoked by the more extreme psychedelic states, while the atmosphere is heavily influenced by the Queensland rainforest where much of the recording took place, conjuring an environment rich with biodiversity. Lewis explains: “The feeling of driving through the bush under the blinding brilliance of the midday sun, towards the sparkle and crush of the waves that would teach me what joy is again. ‘Ecdysis’ is the process of emergence, wings fully formed - because through making it I discovered the sound of everything that makes me feel ok when things aren’t ok. If we had anything one could refer to as a ‘soul’, an 'essence', or perhaps even some kind of guardian angel external to ourselves that keeps us going, this would be the sound of mine”.

The creation of the album itself became a deeply healing process for its producer, and it is designed to function the same way for its listeners. Best enjoyed on headphones in total darkness. ‘Ecdysis’ is coming out February 16 via Fleisch Records(worldwide) and Metropolis Records( North America ). Pre-order the LP here.
