(November 8, 2023) Today, Razor Braids make their energetic return with new single "She". An upbeat display of queer garage rock, the single is now available on most streaming platforms. In addition to the fresh new single, today marks the first night of the band’s headlining tour which culminates in a homecoming show with Big Girl at NYC’s Baby’s All Right.
Invoking catchy pop melodies with an underlying punk inspiration, "She" marks the first single from the forthcoming project set to be announced early 2024. Recorded with collaborators Jeremy Given and Jake Cheriff at Paper Moon Studios, the track serves as a formal introduction of the cathartic yet emotional ethos of what’s to come for Razor Braids.
Based in Brooklyn, the band has already made a splash in the scene by performing at Boston Calling opening for The National and Foo Fighters. The exciting new single "She" follows the double release of original track “Nashville, Again” and a delicate and dreamy take on the Weezer classic “Buddy Holly”, which came earlier this year.
Sonically, "She" invokes the flair and energy of 90’s greats such as The Cranberries, Liz Phair, and Alanis Morissette. Though lead singer Hollye Bynum’s vocals give off a timbre reminiscent of modern stars such as Carly Rae Jepsen, scratching that sweet pop itch. Production wise, "She"’s rigid sound and punk-inspired drumbeat give way to the styles of Bikini Kill or The Clash.
A song about being unafraid to take a chance on love, "She" is a perfect shot of courage for those who need it. Rounding out the song with addicting gang vocals, the track is an earworm for fans of 90’s- doused garage rock.
When speaking about the inspiration behind "She", lead singer Hollye Bynum says the following:
“It’s a song about being present when you meet someone really special: you don’t want to think about what happens tomorrow or what happened in past relationships, because when you look at her you just get to be in the moment”
Throughout the music video, Razor Braids allow us to be a fly on the wall at their party of the century. The flicker welcomes the listener into a collage of party shenanigans while simultaneously displaying the spontaneity and excitement of queer love.
