Today, Russian protest art collective Pussy Riot, adds a brand new single to their debut mixtape MATRIARCHY NOW, the fuckgirl anthem “PLAYTHING” feat. REI AMI and Kito (co-produced by Kito and Hudson Mohawke) HERE.

About “PLAYTHING”, Nadya says: About “PLAYTHING”, Nadya says: I’ve been obsessing about Kito’s and REI AMI’s tracks for so long, it’s such an honor to work with them. The beat is co-produced by Hudson Mohawke whose music I love for years too. And Model Child, who co-written this song, is a true poet, and I’m obsessed with the confidence with which he plays with words. Working on this song was a pleasure and fun, and I’m very happy for it to come out. PLAYTHING is about unapologetically owning your sexuality and letting your horninnes be your playground (always with respect, always with consent).

REI AMI adds: “Collaborating with Nadya and Kito on “Plaything” was such a fun process!! I’m super excited for the world to hear it”

Kito says: “I’ve been a fan of Nadya and Pussy Riot for so long so it was a dream to work with her. "Plaything" was born from a synth loop HudMo sent me, a day in Brooklyn with Model Child, a meeting of creative minds with Nadya who then brought REI AMI into the equation and now it’s a Pussyverse anthem.”

The mixtape was released on August 5th on Neon Gold Records (MARINA, Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens etc.), just ahead of the 10-year "anniversary" of their August 17, 2012 verdict of being convicted with hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, which led to 2 years of imprisonment for protesting Putin.

Live, Pussy Riot, led by Nadya Tolokonnikova, kicked off the project with a sold out release show at The Independent in San Francisco ahead of their weekend festival set at Outside Lands Festival, and headlined Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, with support sets from Sarah Silverman and REI AMI opening, plus guest appearances by Big Freedia, Salem Ilese, Josiah, Boyfriend, Eva Elfie and Slayyyter. Coming up are performances at Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful Festival and the next Pussy Riot headline experience at New York’s Le Poisson Rogue on 9.22 TICKETS.

The mixtape builds upon Pussy Riot’s latest political action last June 9th, in which they hung a 45 foot MATRIARCHY NOW banner from the third floor of the Texas State Capitol to protest the national attack on reproductive rights. Additionally, Nadya Tolokonnikova has played an instrumental role in setting up LegalAbortion.ETH - the frictionless Web3 donation address that benefits seven organizations protecting reproductive rights.

Nadya's Web3 efforts helped to raise over $12M and counting; $500K for reproductive rights non-profits, including Planned Parenthood and the National Center for Reproductive Rights. In February, at the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, she was instrumental in raising $7M via UkraineDAO. On Gender Equality Day / International Women’s Day, she announced UnicornDAO, which has so far raised over $4.5M to collect and showcase art from women-identified and lgbtq+ artists. Unicorn DAO’S members include Grimes, Sia, Guy Oseary, Beeple, Yuga Labs (Bored Ape Yach Club), Jen Stark, Ppl Pleaser, Justin Aversano, Gary Vee and more.

Pussy Riot furthered their notoriety with a collection of singles across the last few years, such as the project “Make America Great Again” which was eerily recorded and shot before Trump was elected president. “RIOT” along with the Nadya Tolokonnikova-directed video, as well as “HANGERZ” a project on female reproductive rights. “Police State” (featuring Chloe Sevigny in video) and “1312” are projects against police brutality; "1312" stands for "ACAB", "all cops are bastards" “НОЖ” / “KNIFE” is a project against domestic violence, which was released alongside Pussy Riot's "STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" award. Ever since their release from prison, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha/Maria Alekhina founded MEDIAZONA, Pussy Riot’s independent publication focused on Russian courts, law enforcement, and the prison system.
