(17th March) –– T Truman, the solo project and alter ego of The Vaccines’ keyboardist Timothy Lanham, today releases his new EP 'Luxury Star'.
Co-produced and written with frequent collaborator Geoff Roberts, 'Luxury Star' finds Truman flexing his songwriting muscles, moving from bustling retro-pop to 70's tinged piano ballads, and synth and sax laden piano pop stompers – all with the ease and clarity of a artist who's undoubtedly on the path to much bigger things.
Across the EP, Truman puts the microscope on subjects such as the forced-creativity of him and his contemporaries on "Entertainer", the age old quandary of unrequited love - more specifically being locked in the 'friend zone' on "Isabelle", and human insecurities, jealousy and egotism on the EP's lead single and sonic centre piece "Vanity Jones".
Balancing the allure of nostalgia with the zest of modern pop-songwriting, T Truman pays homage to the past as much as he looks forward to the future. With sonic references to 70’s piano-pop acts such as Todd Rundgren, Elton John and ABBA - there's a distinct nostalgic feeling, but one that confidently steps forward with a clear modern approach, aligning with artists such as Rex Orange County, Father John Misty, Brad Stank and Matt Maltese.
Discussing the new EP, Truman said: "Retrospectively I think a lot of this new EP’s underlying lyrical meaning is about a search for creative purpose, and perhaps the fear of what it means if you can’t find it… also a lot about the constant obsession with keeping in vogue, though I couldn’t help but layer all this with silly made up characters who I’d probably never want to meet."
T Truman's new EP 'Luxury Star' follows his 2020 debut EP 'Born To Be Right', which drew praise for its glitzy, retro-pop stylings from the likes of NME, DIY Magazine, Dork Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Gigwise, Les In Rocks, Indie88 + more.
T Truman's new EP 'Luxury Star' is out now. He'll showcase the EP at London's Laylow on 24th March, followed by support dates with Spector in Leeds and Glasgow. T Truman, Live
