Sudan Archives’ new single "Home Maker" is a celebration of domestic life. In the wild video directed by Jocelyn Anquetil, Sudan gets into character as a domestic goddess and seductive siren — dancing, tearing a furniture store apart, and luring men into her web, all in killer heels and with six-inch nails.
After Sudan moved to LA from Cincinnati, making a home was one way she could feel more like herself. She says, "It took nesting — building a home, investing in partners that were worth my investment — to shake my anxiety and depression." Whereas Black women have historically had to choose between security and sexuality, on "Home Maker", Sudan enjoys having both — the security of building a home with her partner, and the strength of being a sexual, independent woman. She says, "For me, homemaking is a service to mental health and coping with fear and isolation. This song is about the effort put into making a relationship work and giving love a place to live."

“Home Maker” arrives on the heels of Sudan’s recent cover of "Dogtown", her contribution to Ocean Child: Songs of Yoko Ono alongside a stacked roster of contributors including David Byrne, Japanese Breakfast, Sharon van Etten, and more. At the end of 2021, Sudan Archives joined Tame Impala for a run of arena shows across the US, holding her own onstage as she performed solo before audiences of thousands. Sudan will hit the road this spring and summer for festivals in the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe. Tomorrow (17 March) She headlines the Stones Throw SXSW showcase at Empire Garage. Details here.
