Praise for Laufey & Typical of Me:

"Laufey evokes Roberta Flack oldies and early Tracey Thorne on ‘I Wish You Love’...Her fluid guitar playing pushes the track towards bossa nova, while she buttresses her tender lead with long lines of sighing backing vocals that bring to mind the Jordanaires." - Rolling Stone

“rising Icelandic-Chinese artist Laufey’s new single [‘Best Friend’] lovingly recounts her most special relationship with a casual jazziness...that invites the listener into the room with her and her BFF.” - Billboard

“To associate jazz with dingy lighting, wooden furniture in smoky bars with fading wallpaper is normal, but Laufey is moving the genre in a new direction, and her blend of captivating melody, emotive vocals and romantic storytelling inspires audiences” - Clash

“The lo-fi vibe builds to a cornucopia of layered vocals, reverb-drenched piano and an ever-present, jazz-y guitar line that is a testament to Laufey’s effortless songwriting abilities” - Guitar World

"Nostalgic and soothing, this short set primes the young artist as one to watch, showcasing her technical prowess and innate charm...Every song on Typical of Me is a gem, brimming with potential and the insight of an artist twice her age."- AllMusic
Twenty-one year old Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter, musician, cellist and pianist Laufey has had a whirlwind of a year. Her breakout single “Street By Street” earned her a big social following, hit #1 on Iceland Radio, her own new music series on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds, the distinction of Best New Artist at the Iceland Music Awards, and a big following that includes fans like Billie Eilish, Willow Smith, dodie, and more. All of this took place before her debut EP entitled Typical of Me was even dropped this Spring, and has since been streamed over 10 million times across all platforms.

Today, following the release of her utterly charming debut EP earlier this year, Laufey shares a stunning new single “Let You Break My Heart Again,” featuring London’s legendary Philharmonia Orchestra, one of the premier and most decorated orchestras in Britain for the past 75+ years. Alexander Van Ingen, Chief Executive of the Philharmonia Orchestra, said, ““The Philharmonia – one of the world’s great orchestras – prides itself on supporting the next generation of incredible artists, and we are hugely proud to work alongside Laufey on this track. Laufey has an exceptional vocal and songwriting talent, and we are so pleased to have made this work across the Atlantic during the pandemic; we look forward to welcoming Laufey to London in the autumn for her performance in the EFG London Jazz Festival at our London residence, the Southbank Centre.”

“I wrote this song about a guy that I was hopelessly in love with,” Laufey continues. “I let him disappoint me again and again simply because I liked him so much. It’s the kind of blind love you experience in your youth, inspired by the sounds of old Hollywood films. I’m so honored to collaborate with the London Philharmonia Orchestra on this song. Growing up a classical musician, I’ve been a fan of them for years. The orchestral arrangement lifts the song to new heights with luscious strings, winds and graceful harmonies. I was also so happy to play cello on the track!”

Laufey recently announced tour dates with Ricky Montgomery and Alexander 23, as well as sets at Iceland Airwaves and London Jazz Festival this Fall. Most of the U.S. shows are already sold out and her performance at London Jazz Festival sold out in a matter of hours. See below to find a show near you, and get remaining tickets HERE

Laufey, who spent much of her childhood living in Reykjavik, was inspired by classical and jazz music from a young age and performed with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15. Despite her love of the music that acted as her musical foundation, she yearned to express herself with music that blended her classical background with her more modern influences. She began to collaborate with her peers at Berklee College of Music, and recorded her debut single “Street By Street” the day before campus was shut down due to COVID-19. Making the most of lockdown, she decided to proceed with self-releasing the single on her social media. The song, in addition to performance videos she posted of the song and covers, quickly went viral. Soon, Laufey’s first-ever single, which showcases Laufey’s intoxicating and unique blend of sophisticated jazz melodies and slow-burning R&B grooves, would hit #1 on the Icelandic Radio Charts and earn her a massive following.
